We searched high and low for different charters, and finally, we came across Long Live the Kings. I cannot tell you how extremely satisfied we were with our trip. Not only did we have the coolest fishing guide, but we also lucked out with some really awesome kings. Ray, our fishing guide, was accommodating and very personable. It's not exactly a wilderness location -- the cabins are right off the road with neighbors close by but it's such a pretty spot right on the lake. The kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need to prepare and serve meals. There's a big grill on the deck and a chest freezer out back to store all your salmon in. Alas, I went float tube fishing for trout with a large group of ladies and all we caught was one trout so the freezer was empty for my two-night stay. The lake cabin has a king-sized bed downstairs and three twins up in the loft. It was clean and conveniently located just outside Soldotna.

The dry tent sites have chemical toilets and a mix of wooded and open camp sites, depending on your anxiety about animals. This place is a little tricky to find, just look for the airport- its directly BEHIND IT. It runs parallel and has an entrance at either end.

Breakfast was excellent. Our room was great. The bathroom water pressure was not the best, but it got the job done. The views from the house are what make this B&B worthwhile! Their deck overlooks the river, where Belugas come through and wildlife visits. We were only there two nights, but during one breakfast a herd of caribou crossed our view across from the river. It was amazing. The owner even lent me his shoes so I could run out and grab a picture!

We were very late in checking in, and the owners stayed to welcome me. That really shows they care about their business and they are professional and friendly. If you were going on a fishing expedition, this would be a very good option as it has several amenities: fish freezers, a LARGE outdoor jacuzzi (clean and HOT!), most cabins have kitchens, and it even has a canoe for communal use (they have new lifejackets in variety of sizes.) I didn't bring my computer, but they also have wireless. I brought a DVD, but unfortunately my room didn't have a DVD player. They have satellite cable with flatscreen tvs. My room was small, but the linens were very comfy and the price was very low; I feel I got an excellent value. It looks like they have great options for both small and big parties. A large group could rent a whole house, and they have private, 2-person cabins for those on a quiet getaway. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in the Mallard Cabin which had a small kitchen, living room, bed room and bathroom. It was perfectly sized for a couple or a couple with small children. The cabin was well equipped and comfortable. Alaska Serenity Lodge is conveniently located five minutes from Soldotna and the Kenai River. There was plenty to do in my off time, I was fortunate enough to catch a 100 Halibut during my stay. John and Jackie were so friendly and outgoing. They took us horseback riding, offered to take us fishing, and invited us up to their house for coffee and banana bread.
