Very clean in each space we entered ... bathrooms well stocked and cleaned ... lots of security everywhere who don't play ..... consistent cleaners seen throughout. Plentiful on parking as well.... This place is safe secure with security guards onsite and cameras. I love the added self service food /snack area. This facility is definitely top tier. My only con is while the front staff can be very helpful they are not always up to date with all of the activities and or contact personnel. I wanted to book swimming classes for my younger daughter however, I felt the website to not be user friendly so when I approached the front desk after I explained to them that I was having some challenges with the website they sent me back to checking the website. I knew better than to drink that coffee before we left to go to Lancaster. And yes, I DID pee…read morebefore we left, but it was no use. Remember when your mom used to tell you to do that? As if it's a one and done thing. Sometimes I can use the bathroom ten minutes after I used the bathroom. This is life. So when I saw the sign that there was a Welcome Center coming up, I told Jeremy to pull in. We travel a lot and rest stops/welcome centers can be hit or miss for me because of the wheelchair. I was prepared for the place to be packed, since it was a Saturday during the summer, but it wasn't crazy at all. I mean, the 16-wheeler parking was a little outrageous. At one point we thought a truck was going to block us in, and since my ramp comes out the back, that I wouldn't be able to exit the van at all. But the driver moved - whether he heard Jeremy yelling, "Are you kidding me?!" or not I cannot tell you. TWO attendants saw us coming and unlocked the family/accessible bathroom before we had fully entered the building. I'm glad that I didn't have to search someone out. Though it is a pity that these types of bathrooms are ever locked. Makes me wonder what goes on in these bathrooms that they have to be locked. I probably don't wanna know. The bathroom was wonderfully accessible. Even the light switch was lowered so people using wheelchairs should be able to use it. It's been a long time since I have been so impressed by a bathroom. We didn't explore any more of the Welcome Center, as we were meeting up with two other vehicles full of friends at Shady Maple, and didn't want to be late. I am grateful for the attentive service and clean, accessible bathroom.

Plus, it's less chaotic than having to get off the highway at an exit and go through all that traffic. This is your typical, no frills, welcome center/rest stop. A great place to use the facilities for yourself and four-legged friends if they accompany you. Standard rest stop building with bathrooms, vending and some light literature. If you smoke, there are designated areas outside for that. Accompanying the rest stop building there is a welcome center building that is only open during certain hours with more information on things to do while visiting, revisiting, or coming home to Pennsylvania. During daylight hours this place appears to be fully staffed by people, I cannot speak to hour it is after hours. Easy on and off to the highway to make your pitstop.

We visited the Hampton National Historic Site in Towson this past weekend. This estate was owned by…read morethe Ridgely family for 7 generations from 1745 to 1948. The Georgia mansion home was the largest private home in America when it was completed in 1790. The estate was a plantation, one of the largest in Maryland, and hundreds of people were enslaved at the plantation until the end of the Civil War. The property is operated by the National Park Service, so a park ranger gives guided tours of the property. Our ranger guide was really friendly and did a wonderful job guiding us through the house. She taught us about the history of the area, the family, and the estate. She taught us about the architecture of the house and the artifacts visible throughout the house (many of which are original to the home). She also highlighted the lives and stories of enslaved persons who spent part or the entirety of their lives at Ridgely. There is some important Maryland history here at Hampton, and I really appreciated our experience. The house is undergoing some renovations right now and we were a bit tight on time, so we weren't able to explore the grounds (I think you can visit the slave quarters, cemetery, and more on the grounds), so I'd like to go back and explore more of the site's history. As an NPS property, it's free to visit and tour and definitely worth checking out. It's history hidden in plain sight - you've probably driven past it many times without stopping by!

Walked around the grounds in March before most plants had come out. Liked the planted area called the Larry Franz Woodland Walk. At the back of this area, walk past the ribbon tied on a tree. Then go down a steep trail to circle back along the Ma and Pa Trail to the parking lot. Good to see the snowdrops, crocuses, hellebores, dead leaves, and fungi on tree trunks! Without leaves, you can see further through the forest. Slippery when dry! Some steeper trails are slippery as the dry leaves slide over rocks hidden under the leaves

The location is perfectly located for wedding at St. Marks Church is Fallston (~10 minute drive). The venue is a little pricey (~$3000 + insurance for an early slot on a Saturday in October). But it's worth it for the gorgeous setting. I also liked the back entrance where I was able to sneak upstairs and get my dress bustled before having to see all my guests. We came down the main staircase (which the florist was able to decorate) as we were introduced as a couple for the first time. We did not have dancing but did have yard games set up. We used one portico as a bar area and the outside terrace area for cornhole. We had a giant jenga set as well on the concrete terrace area. You do have to pick from a specific list of vendors when it comes to food. They have Dean and Brown on their list though which is one of the highest rated catering places in Harco. Overall, the wedding went off without a hitch and I am so glad that I held it at the Lirio!
