Based on their terms and conditions, if you don't withdraw your application before July 1st, you are responsible for paying THE WHOLE year's tuition ($27000+ in our case). Even if, for whatever reason, you realize you can't send your baby to this school. Even if you relocate, or your baby is not happy there, or you realize you don't like their approach, or even (and this is the most absurd case) if your baby is inconsolable and they call you to come and pick him/her up every day, you are still responsible for paying the tuition in full. Moreover, they don't let parents observe how their baby adjusts initially. They don't guarantee to answer your phone call; indeed, we called four times and left messages, and they didn't answer for days. Some schools let you watch through CCTV, come and check in regularly the first few days, or have an app to see what's going on. This school has none of that. We are talking about sending a baby under one year old to an entirely new place for the first time without his/her parents. As parents, we have to stay in the dark about how he/she behaves. Considering these factors, we withdrew on April 26th, over four months before the term began. Despite having paid $3,800+, NONE of it was refunded. To be fair, they insist that their school is not for everyone. Take that seriously! We believe their registration's terms and conditions are very unreasonable, to say the least.

Never have I met a more passionate, dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic educator. Her background in reading and social education were key to us making the decision to enroll. -It utilizes "The Virtues Project," which places emphasis on character development and morality that is absent in most educational programs. -My son is gaining skills that were challenging for me to address prior, such as fine motor strength and adaptive skills. He has only been attending 5 months and is already showing proper grip for holding writing utensils and is eager to dress himself. Areas that were nonexistent prior. -The Montessori Method is fully implemented with gorgeous materials, a clean and peaceful environment, and with everything accessible. -It's affordable. My son only attends twice a week for half of the day, which is infrequently an option at Montessori schools. This allows me to remain the primary educator of my child, replaces the multiple classes we were paying for previously, gives me a short break to grocery shop or complete errands, and allows my child to experience a school atmosphere with a wide-range of peers. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, the school is socio-economically and culturally diverse with its student and teacher population. Children are not only being taught about multiculturalism, they are experiencing it with one another. This lays a foundation of positive interactions, understanding, and appreciation for the beauty of humanity for children during their most tender years.

During our son's "graduation" at Magenta class today, there were many teary eyes (from the parents that is, the kids had no clue). Why I chose Park West two years ago: 1) It started while I was with my son at the local CPW playground, I remembered being impressed with how well behaved the kids from the school were. Seriously, how were they able to get these little 3 year olds to be so good? 2) the administration: exmissions (yes a word you'll come to know as a Manhattan parent), was very thorough. Since the school ends at 6 years old, they are not incentivized to shunt you to their elementary program. During the period when we were applying for elementary schools, I had almost daily updates on deadlines to be aware of. Very helpful when the whole process is ridiculously complicated. Office workers are very approachable 3) Montessori system: My son was shy and not the type that "opens up" if he were pushed/cajoled/bribed to do what the other kids were doing. I needed a place that allowed for him to progress at his own rate with less rigidity (I had to overcome with my tiger mom instincts). 4) Hours- they have a 12 month option, enrichment programs to 6 PM. Given that most parents there have to work, it's nice to know that this school realizes that and works with it. Two years later, it proved the right decision for us. At four years and a half years old, he is reading simple books, dressing himself, and counting to 100 along with his classmates. He's attending a gifted and talented public school program in September. I hope this is helpful. I wish you best of luck on this crazy process.

Maple Street School is a vibrant, friendly, family-type community of people that care about raising up children to be thoughtful, curious, kind, and brave. There is such an intentional variety of activities throughout the day and plenty of active time, both in and outside the school. They really involve the community and neighborhood, and help the children cultivate relationships with the local folks they see every day. The teachers/staff support families and whatever specific needs they may have regarding their children. Like any growing family, there are things that will shift and change along the way as new needs are seen/met. It's not always easy to coordinate hundreds of families, so sometimes we just have to embrace the chaos and jump in with both feet to help! We're glad we joined early on, when our daughter was newly 2, so we have lots of time with our Maple Street folks!

Examples include - 15 kids in a class left uncared for by aides, daily fights and bullying between kids that is left unaddressed (leaving our kids with constant bruises and cuts) and getting excuses like "boys will be boys", teachers handling children roughly, administrators lying about things that happened or didn't - thank goodness for the videos that caught them in major lies, baby crying for hours in nursery without response from caregivers, caregivers badmouthing babies. I watched my kid being shoved to the ground from behind by another kid in the playground, who was a head taller than him, right in front of the teacher and the teacher did nothing. I watched a kid hit my son 3 feet away from the teacher who ignored them and then when he came to her bleeding, she sent him back to his table. I saw a teacher grabbing my child at the age of 2 and roughly pushing him into a chair because he got up when he wasn't supposed to. I heard a baby cry for hours with no one consoling them. We took our kids out when we realized that all our concerns were true and not our imagination. When you feel like things aren't adding up and your kid goes from a sweet calm child to an aggressive and anxious kid, but you are being gaslit by the school and you can't quite put your finger on what is causing it - question their environment and go with your gut! We are still dealing with the aftermath of our childs' formative experience at Rainbow Montessori. Remember, it is at a young age that many of their behavioral traits are formed. So if your kid has a daily experience of physical abuse, caregiver neglect and an overall need to be in flight or flight mode, it will shape their future behavior and experiences in life. This was a few years ago and things may have changed, but I wouldn't count on it as long as the admins haven't changed. If you are considering the school, it would be advisable to review videos of a typical day before enrolling.

With a masters degree In Elementary education and 15years of teaching Early Childhood Education - 2, 3 and 4 year olds, I looked forward to this new opportunity. Poorly maintained by owner of building and super. Poor relationship between owner of building and Joanna owner of this preschool - which by the way is now named metrokids. Don't let the new name and branding fool you!!! In 2019, , Unsafe front door entrance, elevator consistently not working, check legalities/ infants on second floor . Challenging to get children safely out of Building God forbid there was an emergency. Also No cleaning staff to come In at night or on weekends for deep cleaning. Perhaps now with children returning to daycare the owner properly addressed issues and children have a state of the art preschool to return to in a 21st century Chelsea location. I doubt it though. Parents were paying 2000 a month. So I'll recap unsafe and unsanitary. The Director and teachers are the parents sounding board but ultimately owners responsibility. Also teachers - the true reason daycares and preschools survive- three wonderful teachers and a wonderful assistant teacher during my tenure there. When I say wonderful I mean educated kind intelligent and well maintained class rooms. One thank goodness has been called back after schools started opening again. It was challenging to be able to give good teachers and assistants raises because often raises were based on making sure a teacher had the "right" degree or coursework to merit the cheap pay raises. Across the board cheap raise once a year. My review is not based on"sour grapes". It's for "pulling back the curtain" for unsuspecting parents.

Wow, we had such a great experience at Preschool of America! They helped us out of a very serious…read moresituation, where our son's daycare closed suddenly. They took us in and were so considerate of our situation while we figured out our long-term solution. On the administrative side, Stephanie is a wonderful and responsible director. On the academic side, the teachers and students welcomed our son with warmth and made him feel at home, helping him to make a quick adjustment to the new environment. There were so many things that we loved about POA that our previous daycare didn't do. They send daily photos of what the kids are up to through a secure mobile app, so you feel more connected. They provide daily report cards for every student, listing out activities, learning progress and behavior. They use a lot of music and physical interactivity to enhance the learning process. Their catered lunches were also high quality and diverse. When we were researching daycare options, I recall reading a few bad comments which caused me some concern, so I really wanted to address the inaccurate comments in my review of POA. First of all, the environment is very clean and brightly lit, with children's artwork all over the place. Each room has windows allowing natural sunlight to come in. Most of the classrooms and gym are on the outer edge of the building with direct sun. Two of the classrooms for the very young children/babies were on the interior, but with windows facing the outside windows and direct views outside. The children at that age are still crawling or too small to see out the windows anyway. This seems to be a common practice, and was how our previous daycare was designed as well. When our previous daycare shut down, we learned a lot about the economics of what it takes to run a daycare versus what you pay. We tried getting together with 3 or 4 other families to share the cost of a private teacher, and traded off using our apartments to house them. However, it became clear very quickly that it would not only be much more expensive than daycare, but the learning environment wasn't nearly as good. The typical daycare costs of around two thousand dollars per month originally seemed like a lot to us as new parents, but if you do the math of how long they are watching your child, it breaks down to around $7.50 per hour. That's less than minimum wage, and when you factor in the lunches, diapers, activity supplies, etc that are included, there is no way you could ever match that. After a month, our previous daycare re-opened and is was an EXTREMELY difficult decision to make about which one to choose long-term. Ultimately, our son missed his friends too much, and the location at our previous place was a half mile closer, so we ended up going back. However, we also would have been quite happy to stay at POE as his permanent daycare. So to sum it up, we highly recommend Preschool of America!

This daycare reminds me of family because the staff is great and always keeps an open line of communication. The staff is very kind, caring and most of all patient. My granddaughter absolutely loves going to school. Another awesome plus for working parents is that the daycare is willing to work with your work schedule. I've watch her grow so much...not just educationally, but socially and emotionally as well. She's not just learning...she's learning in a safe, loving and caring environment. I'm admit to being an over protective Dad and nothing is more important than safety, security, physical and emotional well being of my children. I find all of these elements at Educating Young Ones.
