It's only about a mile from I-26 / US 74. If coming from the highway, take exit 33 for NC 191 / Blue Ridge Parkway. On a Sunday morning around 11am, this gas station and convenience store were busy with a variety of customers including families with children and out-of-towners like us. We even ran into our Airbnb hosts. I guess this place is befitting of its name. I'd never heard of the Hot Spot chain before this visit. At the time of writing this review, there are about 40 locations in the Carolinas. They're mostly in South Carolina, with multiple locations in the greater Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville areas. In North Carolina, I spend most of my time in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) and Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point). There are no Hot Spots in those areas. I pass through Greenville and Spartanburg regularly on my trips to and from Georgia. However, I almost always fill up at a QuikTrip along I-85. It looks like there are only a couple Hot Spots along I-85 on that stretch. This Hot Spot has eight pumps. Apart from the branding, I can't say too much separates this place from other gas stations and convenience stores. It's run-of-the-mill, but also A-OK. I'd fill up here again. The price for premium fuel was in line with other more expensive gas stations like BP and Shell. The property felt clean and safe enough.

As we were leaving we saw the marketplace and decided to pop in to check it out and maybe pick up a few snacks. It's not a huge space and is pretty no frills without a lot of variety in their options but they do seem to have a lot of what you may need if staying or camping nearby. Snacks, some cooking supplies, camping/outdoor gear, and some souvenirs. But boy are they pricey. They're the only place around and they know it, so they definitely take advantage of it. We got an offbrand bag of popcorn, a bag of Ruffles (both snack size, not full size), a bottle of Diet Pepsi, a bottle of water, and a small souvenir sticker (not much larger than a postage stamp). Just shy of $20! We spent less buying way more snacks and beverages the next day at Whole Foods! So if you're staying in the area, I recommend you plan ahead so you don't have to get your supplies here as it will be way more costly. That said, if you forget something, or run into a need, you'll likely have access to it.

Gas is cheaper in South Carolina, and you'll immediately know why when you drive on our roads! The advertised gas prices are the cash-only prices, and if you plan to pay with a credit card (like most people), you will pay a few cents more. Even after the extra 10 cents per gallon, it was still one of the less expensive gas stations in the area, though. I got a coffee and topped it off with some hot chocolate cappuccino. The cappuccino machine worked well (often, gas station cappuccino machines are clogged and only dispense water with a hint of flavoring). My coffee was as good as I could've expected it to taste from a Hot Spot. The convenience store has a good selection of local brews as well, including one of our favorites, Ginger's Revenge. Hot Spot isn't fancy, but it gets the job done if you need gas and snacks for the road.
