The company came highly recommended. I had several good conversations with the sales rep Coty about plans and budget. The options given were above my budget, so I asked for ways to get the costs down. After a revision, the costs were still a bit high, so I entertained a second quote from a competitor. Before moving forward with the competitor, I asked the Harlow owner Burl, if he could work with my budget constraints, because Harlow seemed like a reputable company, and I wanted to do business with them. To my surprise, the owner never responded, so I went with the competitor, then received a scathing email from Coty about wasting their time and stealing their designs. Way to go Harlow. Nothing like making a customer feel small and shaming a customer for trying to stay within budget. Horrible experience. Lack communication. They will try to gain your business and be nice once you pay them $1000 for the design so good luck reaching out to them. Spoke with their workers and most of them jumped ship. Burl Jordan is a snake and a rat. He came over to my home and turned off my power and water one morning demanding for his equipment that he left in front of my home for months when I've asked him not to leave it their in the first place. Had to get law enforcement involved to mediate and calm Burl down. Honestly if law enforcement did not come Burl would have been knocked out for harassing me and my family that morning. He is very aggressive when it doesn't go his way. Also a horrible businessman. Do not go with him he just wants your money. Id recommend anyone else. Trust me. Ps: law enforcement came to an conclusion that Burl would have to refund me $1000 for not providing what he was promised to provide. Unfortunately I never got a penny from it. Lost the $1000 but so glad I didn't go with this insane guy. The crew overall has done a great job with our front and back yards. They were very professional and went above and beyond to make sure everything was the way we wanted. Joby from their Sales was also very helpful in the beginning. He came by a few times before the project started and explained everything in a good detail. The reason for the 3 stars, however, is that working with Burl (the owner) has been very painful. First, he had poor communication. We never knew when the crew would show up as he would not proactively let us know. I had to constantly track him down to confirm whether we were actually meeting at a nursery to pick up plants. When the project was delayed, he also failed to notify us. Second, he made a promise that the crew would plant something before the project was over. It has been almost a month now since the end of the project and it hasn't been done. Every time I send him a message to check (at least 4-5 times now), he says "tomorrow". They say you can have it good, fast or inexpensive. Pick 2. With Harlow Landscape, we got all 3. I highly recommend Burl and his entire crew. We like them so much, we've used them for landscape design and construction at two different homes - 10 years between jobs. Our last house was a brand new track home with a relatively small yard space. Burl designed the back, front & side yards from dirt and helped us to utilize & enjoy every precious square inch. Eight years later, we decided to go for the opposite and purchased a home built in 1930 on almost an acre. After tackling the necessary indoor projects, we contacted Harlow and two other landscape contractors for bids to turn our established courtyard into a great outdoor entertaining space with a bar and fireplace. Harlow Landscape's estimate (which they stuck to in the end) was the least expensive but still the most in depth & thoughtful. We were working around some existing structures and mature landscaping this time, and Burl was very sensitive to retain our Mexican country vibe. Once we accepted the bid, he had a crew out to us the next day. They would work from 7am-6pm most days with either Timo or Lalo as foreman and some of the hardest working guys you've every seen. Burl would come by almost every morning to walk the job with us and we let the project evolve. There was always work being done and Burl has employees who knew enough about every aspect of our construction that he never needed to subcontract. He said his employees stole from him and he has fallen on hard times. So he has to pay us back over time. He said he sent us a partial refund check in the mail but never did. Harlow did a good job with our yard but unfortunately very poor with customer service. Our turf grass sank and we had other issues. It has been over a year of back and forth, they were going to come then they don't show up. This happened multiple times. They give good service to new customers but not so good in maintaining good customer service to old customers. They are not bad people but needs to respect people's time. The true test of any good contractor is AFTER the job has been completed if they will stand by their work. read more
