That is why I was so happy to find the Harold P. Curtis Honey Co. The Harold P. Curtis Honey Co. store has been a landmark near the Caloosahatchee River on N Bridge Street since 1954. You get the honey directly from the Curtis family hives which can be found in the orange groves, pines, mangroves and along the beaches of South Central Florida. Farmers depend on the bees to pollinate their crops and the bees make the Curtis honey. Curtis Honey Co. is located in a historic building from 1927 that used to be the towns mercantile. The store is managed by the daughter of Harold P. Curtis, Rene Curtis Pratt who I had the pleasure of chatting with. Honey varieties include sea grape, mangrove, wildflower, palmetto, and orange blossom. In addition to the honey offered in many different sizes they also sell gator sauce and other spicy seasonings, honey candy, tea, jellies, honey candy, candles, and honey beauty products like soap, lotion, and lip balm. I purchased the amazing orange blossom honey soap for myself and gifts. The honey drop candy cured a minor throat irritation I have had for a month. I ended up purchasing a few gifts for upcoming birthdays which I know will be enjoyed. With the current focus on supporting local agriculture and eating healthy now is the time to rediscover what our ancestors knew, honey is good for you. Stop by the Harold P. Great customer service and a little secret- delicious fudge. But it's the honey we all come for. I buy it in large quantities for myself and to give as gifts. I have been enjoying this honey since 1979. It's worth a day trip from anywhere in the state. You can sample and taste the nuances of the varieties. I have sampled honeybee places all over our great state but Harold Curtis Honey is the best hands down. My trip is over an hour. So worth it even during snow bird season. read more

What's not to love about a historical landmark and local honey from a family who is passionate about what they do and live for. They have a total of 6 varieties of honey. And yes they have slightly different colors and unique tastes. The juice/nectar from the blooms is sucked into a two part stomach its Carried from the plant back to the beehive and a Another Bee transports it to the beehive comb cells. To evaporate off some of the water to make a wonderful bee spit from flowers in and around Florida. They provide tours and have great knowledge of how everything comes together in nature. The history associated with this business is long the bee honey is very good I stopped by there with my wife yesterday our first visit we were greeted by the coldest short tempered older gentleman. Took a little visit to Lebelle and done some sight seeing. Been a while since I've been back . I'm very glad to see Harolds Honey Co still up and running. One of the best places to get REAL pure honey. The owner's nephew was running the shop. Great to see a family tan business. The nephew was very informative and knowledgeable about everything we asked. Even went into detail about the store itself. Just amazing the customer service I've received. This is a unique gem located in hendry county, a nice touch of old Florida with southern hospitality, obviously they have honey but also all kinds is jams jellies and preserves, soaps lotions even hot sauces!!! If you're interested in this kinda stuff do yourself a favor and stop in!!!! read more

Beeswax candles, Gift Baskets, Jams, Jellies, and etc did you know honey will stay fresh on a shelf for 3000 years? Well, we fully support the CA reviewers sentiments; we too regularly buy from Curtis as seasonal FL residents as well as have them ship to WA 2 x a year their wonderful products. We have used their SEAGRAPE, as well as the ORANGE BLOSSOM honeys, and are delighted by the consistently high quality and taste. We also purchased additional honey as gifts for friends and family. The likely reason that Curtis survives economical challenging times is that they do not artificially inflate their prices, as many, many FL businesses do, particularly during tourist season, but stay true to sincere, ethical principals, which are of course also clearly reflected in the quality of their products.
