The woman that served me was very very rude and she had a nasty attitude I would never go there again

Danger! Do not go here. I went here to cash a check. This lady asked me estranged questions about why I chose this currency exchange based on where I live in the city. She then asked for me to place my social security number on the check while she already had my drivers license in her possession. I began to videotape at that moment as this was her attempt at an identity theft. She yelled "Wait what are you doing? Why are you video-tapping? I can't continue the transaction. You just messed up the whole transaction." -I bet 100% She was never on videotape by my personal device. Only my check was and what I was doing with the pen and my hands to the check. She provided no reasoning for any of her inquiries, or why she stopped the transaction. When this location was called she refused to offer her name. Subsequent calls were not answered at all. I wish I could give ZERO stars. I called to ask about titling a recent out-of -state car purchase and about utility payments. When asking about titling I was told I have to go to the Sec. of State, I know currency exchanges deal with titling cars so when explaining what I have the woman on the phone rudely cut me of and said you have to go to the Sec. Of State and hung up. I called back to get my question answered about paying utilities, Ian's said "Hello, I just called about the title, I wanted to..." and before I could finish the woman said " I told you you got to go to the Sec. Of State, I can't keep answering the same question, I got a line", and hung up again, to which I said "ask about utility payments also." I called back several times, and no one answered. I hope they are on the BBB site so I can give my feedback, I just wanted you all to know about what pretty much everyone on here has said...go elsewhere, the customer service is non-existent at this location. I had a city sticker with a permit that I needed to renew and I was too late in ordering online and I had no time to go downtown to renew it. I called this place asking if they will issue city stickers with permits and they said yes. I went there, they informed me I could only pay with cash or debit and I suspected as much, so was ready for that. I got my city sticker with the permit and averted the stress of having to go downtown. The lady there with the ponytail was super polite, she issued me the city sticker, it was quiet in there. I purchased a money order this morning (8.50 am) and was charged a $6.95 debit card fee. I queried the charge with the lady behind the counter and was shocked by her attitude. She was rude, belligerent and down right nasty. She said 'look at the information bitch' and proceeded to curse at me. I asked her if the staff here receive customer service training and told her that her customer service was hideous. She continued to hurl profanities at me and yell. it was clear that I was dealing with a crazy women. Hyde Park is really deteriorating with these types of characters . I cant believe that a company would actually employ someone like this. I have lived in the US for 7 year, never have I experienced such fiendish behavior from someone supposedly providing customer service! read more

Deserves no stars. Came in Sat. 1/2 hour before closing with a simple title transaction. Nothing complicated. Without even looking at my paperwork I was told that she was closing up. I pointed out the store hours and was told she was electing to close early as my transaction might push her a bit past closing. Funny enough I went to a location on Chicago Ave. the next day and was done in about 20 min. Skip this location and go to Chicago Ave. You'll get courtesy, professionalism and customer service there. read more

To be fair, currency exchanges are sometimes not customer friendly because the customers are often NOT FRIENDLY. The typical clientele do not have bank accounts. They live paycheck to paycheck. With that comes stress and edginess regarding ANY money issues. I can't imagine how many times a Exchange teller gets SNAPPED ON because of a financial problem not created by the Exchange but a problem THE CUSTOMER BROUGHT INTO THE EXCHANGE WITH THEM that the Exchange can do absolutely nothing about. Case in point: It's coming to the end of the month. I procrastinated and my current plate will expire in just a few days. This is MY PROBLEM. I came into this Exchange to renew and the teller informs me I've been flagged by the state and cannot get the new plate sticker without an emission test. I didn't know. This hits me all at once... DAMN! Yes, I'm a little upset. But, again, this is MY PROBLEM. The teller did not create this problem. I brought this problem in with me from the street. As you can imagine, some customers might lose their sh*t. Might lash out at anyone and everyone. Might cuss out the teller. It wouldn't be the first time. It wouldn't be the hundredth or the thousandth. An Exchange teller catches heat from angry customers EVERY SINGLE DAY, MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY for issues that have absolutely nothing to do with them. I empathize. Must be tough gig some days. In any event, I don't lash out. I just stand there and take it all in. As I'm trying to plan my next move, I notice the teller is scribbling something on a piece of paper which then slides to me under the bulletproof glass: its the addresses of the two nearest emission test facilities where I can resolve my issue. The teller didn't have to do this. The teller did their job by telling me I couldn't get the renewal and why I couldn't. I wasn't entitled to anything else. But the teller went the extra mile and pointed me in the right direction. I know it may seem like a small thing, but I'm grateful for ANY act of kindness from a stranger. I'm not going to a currency exchange for complex banking issues. They are not designed for that. This exchange on 53rd street isn't that great but it's local and provides the services it advertises. Now it's up to me to get MY PROBLEM in check and get this emission test ASAP. And thanks to the teller's assistance, I know right where to go. Thank you, teller person. This place has rude employees, the same women who just look at you like you owe them something when you enter. Hell, they signed up to work there if they don't like it leave . Just ghetto as hello, and not meant to work in Hyde Park too ratchet smh. As a Black Women, I hate to talk bad about other black women. However, these women are unprofessional and just plain oh rude. They barely, speak when you walk up and just have terrible attitudes. I'm completely done with this location, I wonder did the thought every click in their minds that if it were no customers they wouldn't be working there. This is the first Currency Exchange I've ever been to. When I first walked in, I walked up to the window and the woman didn't say anything because she was on the phone so I told her what I needed. We exchanged less than 50 words while she got my parking sticker and collected my money. I'm not sure how long it takes to get a parking sticker but I was there for a good chunk of time, perhaps not being on the phone might've helped speed up the process? Otherwise, I don't have any complaints. She got me what I needed and I got out of there and wasn't rude or over the top nice. UPDATE: went to this same location to renew my city parking sticker out of convenience. The same woman is still there. Very, very rude this time and still hasn't figured out what customer service is. I can't stand how her personality is straight up attitude. I don't know why or how she's still employed here, she must really know what she's doing and is dependable... other than that, I hope she's not the manager! read more

Today on January 5th 2021 I came at 6:25pm and got disappointed. The doors was locked and the hours states it's closes at 8pm. There was an African woman sitting behind the desk ignoring me as I'm pulling/knocking on the door. She waved me off in a motion stating their close. Just Unprofessional and bad for business. At least tell me why you locked the doors so early. Now i have to go out my neighborhood to another currency exchange to handle my business. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! There's two Black women (I too am Black so this isn't a racial thing, just a description) that work there that act like they are miserable and intentionally trying to sabotage that place. There's a women that wears colored contacts that looks like an extra from Michael Jackson's Thriller. I'm surprised they still have jobs. I come there every month for almost 5 years and almost every time the thriller one says something rude or dismissive. I encourage everyone that has an issue to call the customer service number on your receipt to complain. I did. If they don't like their job then they should go. There are people who would love to have a job. Moving forward, I will only go here as a last resort. THIS PLACE SUCKS! By the way, there is a currency exchange in Mariano's on King Dr. and I will be going there in the future. They have better hours (open until 10p). read more

I've never put off getting my city sticker before, but waited until the last possible day. Also happened to be the one of the coldest days in Chicago in a decade or so, and then I read all the bad reviews. But both women working that night were pleasant, chatted with me, and I didn't see a bit of whatever these other reviews mention. read more

Yeah these people are quite rude and dismissive. I suggest coming only for emergencies and attempt to share some light into their souls.

I have never had a problem in regards to the customer service at this location it seems to be the same as any other currency exchange . And because it is more convenient to my home that is why I am giving them 3 stars read more

The worst. The manager but the two women he has working for him are horrid. One assumed that I didn't have money to pay for my Chicago city sticker, and the other treated me like a bad child, although she was moderately civil to the white man next to me who had the exact same issue. This is horrible. I go in this currency exchange often. Today I went in and it was the ragilar lady I'm use to seeing and she is always helpful and I assumed nice until today. There was another young lady there and I hesitated before I went to her window. They were in a conversation and I wouldn't interrupt because I'm quite patient. I spoke when she began to assist me and she didn't speak . She stated that my western union wound be $112.50. I had $100 in 10's and 5's. I wen through me wallet to see if I had more singles to give. So i pulled out the $20 bill and gave that with the $100 in 10's & 5's which made $120. When she gave me may change she gave me $2.50. I stated to her that she only gave me $2.50. She began to get defensive and quite nasty. My tone never changed. She insisted that I gave her $115.00. I repeated what I had given her. The other lady came to her window and asked what doe I give her and I repeated it again with no problem. I said you can count your drawer and she bit and said we don't can't drawers... Wow!! I didn't believe that but oh well. They she gave me the $5 and said to me Not To Come Back in here again and go somewhere else. My goodness. I travel all over ther world and do my very best to give the best customer service I can. This is completely UNACCEPTABLE!! read more
