I planned an international trip and was in need of foreign currency.I inquired about currency from my bank, but it was a 2-3 business day wait time, and I would have had to make two trips to the bank. This place was quick and the woman that helped me was so nice she explained the conversion system. You need your state Is for debit and cash transactions. Also, very friendly on the phone. I called before traveling to the location. This business is located in a plaza on the second floor. Also, I was satisfied with the rate it was only 3%. I only got $300 so it was only $3. I heard about this place from Chase bank because I needed some foreign money immediately but was told it would take a few days for Chase to order the money I needed for the countries I was planning to visit. So instead, Chase referred me to this business. When I asked Chase if this business was going to charge me a fee, Chase gave me a business card and wrote "fee waived" on it. With this card, i was able to get the 1% fee waived from the business. Note: not every Chase will give you a card for this money exchange and waive the fee. I learned this when I tried to order money a second time. The man at this money exchange that help me was nice but was laughing at my lack of knowledge on foreign currency conversion. Apparently he expected me to be an expert at this stuff, but really, I'm terrible at math and conversion and I did not do enough research to find out the exact rate I was getting before I unexpectedly came here. My experiences with this business were favorable until recently. Usually they quote the exchange rate, tell me what they will give me and what the fee will be. Their prices are usually not too bad. To be honest, everyone who changes money probably charges a fee that is more favorable to them than to you. So I accepted their fees. While the service seemed decent, I feel like their prices are very bad, and I feel like I was scammed in how I was brought there. I, like many people, was trying to get last minute cash from Chase, to be told to go here instead where they will "waive the fee". So I was operating on the assumption that it would be a similar price to what you get from the bank, or what I would pay with an ATM, maybe cheaper than an ATM (since there's a 3% transaction fee there). NOT THE CASE. Instead, I was about to get $600 worth of Colombian Pesos when I started to get cold feet. They told me it would be at a rate of 2500 per dollar. But everywhere I had been seeing had it at 2980. I was told "this is the rate you get if you are getting MILLIONS of dollars at once, but for small amounts, 2500 is very good, much better than you can get there. This is pretty much how much the bank will charge you." I eventually decided I would ask Chase directly how much it would cost me with ATM (now, I know you might say "you'd have to pay ATM fees" but I was going to have to pay a $6 debit card fee to use a card at this place anyway). I paid them $40 to get 100,000 pesos (which is valued at about $34 today) just to have emergency cash, just in case. Got a hold of my friend in Colombia, who said that his last withdrawal from the ATM has a $3 fee, and paid out at 2930 per dollar. That means, with fees and exchange rates, by deciding to just get my cash when I get to the country, I will have saved myself over $90 by not going here. I mean I guess I should expect that from a Currency Exchange, as they clearly are a business, but yikes, a 14% upcharge is BRUTAL! Oh, and they also claimed that their exchange rate is much more fair than you can get in Colombia. And then I found out that the AIRPORT exchange rate, in the country, is 2750. So yeah, these guys are PRETTY SHADY. read more

Avoid. Not cost effective for exchanging small sums due to minimum commissions. Company is not transparent. If you have Euros, UK Pounds, or Canadian Dollars, just go to your local Chase or Citibank for the best rates. While they don't provide foreign currencies, their spreads are so low they are effectively losing money in providing the service. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I trekked over the World Money Exchange with a few Euros and pounds in hand. The attendant on the phone told me they only charge about 4.3% when exchanging Euros and Pounds into dollars (my calculation that I confirmed). When I went in person, the rate was much higher because of their minimum commission charges. It was a bit dishonest because the attendant didn't volunteer the minimum commission information on the phone or when I was there in person. It appears the World Money Exchange operates partially on consumer ignorance. Essentially, when I learned the true cost was actually more like 8%, I walked out. Subsequently, I learned that Chase takes Euros and Pounds at near spot rates. It is also shady they don't provide FULL information about their buy/sell rates on their web site. We have always been treated as valued customers with kindness and clear, careful guidance when we have asked questions. Imagine arriving in a country without the local currency and finding that the airport ATMs give only the equivalent of fifty dollar bills (or that they are empty or out of order!). I hate exchanging money before going on an international trip, but I always want to do it because I feel it is less of a rip-off then when you go to the airport. I have been here before, but this time I was confused by the entrance as it has been updated since my last visit which made me a little late. Thankfully, I got to the window before they closed. What I really did not appreciate was how fast they pushed me through the process...to the point that I asked a lot of questions to slow them down. What kills me is that I had a $15 loss in the exchange and on top of that they charged me $5. In addition, once they handed me the money they closed the window even before I could recount it and put it in my wallet and walk out. I bought four ounces of gold in American Eagle coins here. Big mark up. I went to resell them here later at what was sure to be a profit and the totally ripped me off. First they took my coins and gave me a fair price with paperwork. Then the man goes back to his owner in the rear od the store and informs me that they have given me the wrong price and want to give me $100 less per ounce then they just agreed to. Not only was the rate poor, the customer service was as well. They charge significant spreads on FX transactions in addition to commissions and debit card processing fees. They also refused to let me pay partly in cash and partly on card. The only redeeming quality is that they had less common currencies on hand. read more

This place is great. I wanted to buy rupees, and I called around to several places. I thought Devon would be my best bet, but several failed attempts there led to a recommendation to call the World's Money Exchange. They carry rupees (and I imagine whatever else floats your boat). The staff were courteous, knowledgeable about their exchange rates & any volume discounts, and gave good directions to how to reach them. They don't seem to be open late (4:45pm), but it's not a big nuisance. They're open from 8:45am - 4:45pm. To reach them, one needs to go up the escalators in their building. Good for getting the foreign currency I need before a trip abroad. Rate in store was competitive with bank, and same as they quoted me on the phone. Straighforward transaction for a decent sum of money. As for the other reviewers, most places won't exchange foreign coins, not even banks. Also do your research on exchanges from a few sources before going in so you can opt to exchange an appropriate amount of money. My bank doesn't do currency exchange so I was referred to this place. I contacted Anil by email and he gave me a very good rate for Euro/dollar exchange - very little spread between their rate and Forex. When I came to execute transaction the rate was much worse in terms of spread between WMEINC price and Forex. Of course Anil also "forgot" to mention about 1% fee they charge. Bait and Switch practice at it's best. I would recommend avoiding this business and finding more honest one. read more
