We lived here for 1 year starting in March of '16. Let me just start by saying he management here…read moreis/was TERRIBLE. Things started off on the wrong foot with property management when our leasing agent(Kristin) LIED and told us that the unit we were leasing had never been smoked in(we were only shown a model). The place wreaked. We had multiple issues arise with our unit, very few of which were solved(I.E. the first week after moving into our apartment multiple electric outlets within the unit failed and this was never fixed. 3 times a maintenance worker would come to the apartment and inspect the problem only to say they would return later with an electrician. This never happened. The roof leaked into the ceiling in the living room and this was never fixed either.) None of the rules about living in the property were enforced(including only occupying 2 parking spots per unit, cleaning up after pets, loitering in the lot late at night, & keeping the hallways clean and clear). The property managers were regularly unavailable in the middle of the workweek and the corporation that owned the property(Axiom) would send our calls to voicemail. As our year passed the other decent tenants in the building began to move out and were replaced with riff raff who would have domestic disturbances and hotbox in the parking lot. Management couldn't even keep the pool open during the summer which is a whole other story. Additional Story that highlights the laziness/incompetence of management: A bat had somehow gotten into the hallway of our building and was sleeping/hanging in the window outside the door of our apartment. My wife discovered this at 11 AM and went to the management office to inform maintenance about the issue in person. Nothing was done ALL DAY and we ended up calling Mission animal control ourselves at 7 PM. If you are a student or young family looking for a cheap place to live in KC, look somewhere else or just spend the additional $100 a month. Mission is a really nice town but The Retreat is a blight upon its reputation.
