It was only my third time hiking, and that's when I realized how much I love hiking. I definitely plan to hike more often. The Blue Trail is considered beginner-friendly, I found parts of it a bit challenging because of the incline. Still, the effort was worth it, the view of South Beacon Mountain was absolutely beautiful. The hike itself was a great experience, especially with friends. Near the train station, there are small shops where you can grab food, drinks, or any last-minute supplies. There are also restrooms by the station and portable toilet near the trail areas. I would definitely come back to hike there again, maybe do the red trail.

If you go in the winter, take caution with the ice when climbing to the top. After about an hour into the trail, you will see a sign to continue on the Full Loop or the Short Loop. When we reached that point, we switched to the Bull Hill Short Loop. It took around 3 hours to complete. The trails have beautiful views! You will see other hikers, but everyone keeps a safe distance. Take time to stop and enjoy the surrounding. There are portable toilets at the beginning of the trail with hand sanitizers if you need to use a bathroom.

There is a small stage set up for special events and music performances. There is a pathway to the left that leads up to a gazebo and offers incredible views of Greenwood Lake & the shoreline. There is a modestly small sized beach area manned with 2 lifeguards on duty. There's plenty of picnic tables to have some food while taking in lake views or the surrounding mountains. There's also a swing set available in the open green area adjacent to the parking lot. It's definitely a cute and peaceful spot worth visiting in Greenwood Lake and excellent for some photo opportunities.

You could start here and bike or hike 20 miles or less depending on your fitness level. Trail is well paved for both walking, hiking and biking with seating along the route for breaks. There doesn't seem to be a clear spot to park at this entry point but it's a city type area so street parking can very likely be found. There are spots to eat in this immediate area to reward yourself after a vigorous walk or bike.

We parked at the lot off of Clover Rd. I warn you it's super small and people seem to get a little creative with parking spots as the day goes on. I would recommend a morning hike or later in the afternoon in order to find a spot. You can't park anywhere on Clover or will risk getting a ticket! The white trail is located just down the road from the parking lot. There is a sign with the trail map so I recommend snapping a picture is printing a copy from home, there weren't any available when we arrived. The trails are moderately well marked. When in doubt you can usually tell you are going the right way from the walked on path, there is a lot of brush around you that will make it clear if you've gone off the path. We walked up the white and started part of the orange trail to get to the top views and ended up back down the same way given the time. It was about 6 miles and 3 hours. Keep in mind there is no restrooms or information center so be prepared! Happy hiking!

Depew Park - One of Peekskill's Hidden Gems!…read more I was here today with my grandson, and days like this remind me just how fortunate we are to have a place like Depew Park right here in Peekskill. There's so much space to enjoy, whether you're bringing the kids, exercising, playing sports, having a picnic, or simply looking for somewhere peaceful to spend some time outdoors. Depew really has a little bit of everything. There's the playground for the kids, Veterans Memorial Pool for those hot summer days, basketball and tennis courts, bocce courts, horseshoe pits, ball fields, a track, picnic areas, grills, restrooms, and a beautiful picnic pavilion overlooking Lake Mitchell. There are also wooded walking and nature trails that give you a completely different experience from the recreational side of the park. ‍ One of my favorite things about Depew is that you can go from watching kids play on the playground or people playing sports to walking into the wooded areas and feeling like you've gotten away from the city for a while. It's a great place to walk, exercise, explore, relax, or just sit and enjoy nature. The park is also home to Peekskill's Recreation Office and Mother Nature's Preschool, and the City continues to invest in improvements. The multi-sport field, track, tennis/pickleball areas and other recreational spaces make this a park that can really be enjoyed by people of all ages. But today, for me, it was simply about being here with my grandson. Making memories, enjoying the outdoors, and appreciating a beautiful local park right here in our own community. Depew Park is truly one of Peekskill's treasures. Whether you come to swim, play basketball or tennis, walk the trails, have a picnic, exercise, bring the kids to the playground, or simply enjoy a beautiful day outside, there's something here for everyone.
