It's hidden and a very small location, but they were helpful and had disabled seating, which was helpful. No appointment was needed. My mom was seen within 8 minutes and we were out of there!!!!! I had an appointment scheduled for 11:30 this morning, thinking that would mean a reasonable wait time. It's now 3:30 in the afternoon, and there are still 14 people ahead of me. This isn't just inconvenient--it's completely unacceptable. This is exactly what happens when you have a government-run facility: it's severely understaffed, poorly managed, and operating with little regard for people's time. Appointments clearly don't mean anything here, and the level of inefficiency is staggering. People arrange their day, take time off work, and make plans around these appointments, only to sit for hours with no communication or updates. If this is considered "normal," that's a sign the system is broken. At the very least, there should be enough staff to honor scheduled appointments in a timely manner, or honest communication so people can plan accordingly. If you're coming here, be prepared to lose your entire day--and bring a lot of patience. read more

It's always been a chore to get a vehicle registration renewed. The county government only spends enough on manpower to get by. Queuing in a line is just normal business. It's only worse during the current pandemic, especially. They don't want people standing in line. Great. You have to make an appointment. The good? They make it easy if you have a smartphone because you can use the posted QR code to book an appointment. The bad? There are no open slots available. No matter what date(only has a 6 week look ahead), nothing available. The ugly? It won't get better. read more

I never knew polite, warm and kind government or state workers existed but Harris County Tax Office was such a pleasant experience. I had to get TX plates and a registration sticker because I just moved here so I went online to read up on the process. I also read the Google reviews to decide which tax office I'd go to. I thought they had walk-ins but when I got there, she told me it was by appt and she provided me with the online info. I made an appt and got one two days later. I showed up on time, got my form to complete, and received a ticket to wait. The office was clean, quiet and the flow of traffic was immaculate. I got called to the window within seconds and the entire process took 10 minutes at best. $200 later, I got my plates, my registration sticker and warm goodbye from the staff and went about my day. read more

I came here to get my replacement registration ticket since I have yet to receive my sticker in the mail. If you are in the same situation as me, you can come here and get your replacement sticker for $6 as long as you live in Harris County. If you don't live in Harris County, save time coming here since they don't collect money from other counties. Appointments are required for certain transactions. According to their website, automobile appointments are required for all vehicle transactions except registrations, special plates, replacements, disabled placards or disabled plates for vehicles that are already registered in Texas. I needed to register my vehicle as a first-time TX resident so I made an appointment. It was about 2 weeks out. Upon arrival, there is a line of people waiting and a separate line for appointments. The door is locked. A staff member opens the door and lets in the people with appointments and a person from the regular line. The staff member checks you in and gives you a number. You sit and wait. There were quite a few people waiting and only a couple of open windows however it didn't take too long. The service was friendly and efficient. TIPS: -Plan ahead and make your appointment in advance. -Print out the form online so you can be prepared. -Ensure you have all the necessary documents (check requirements online). -Parking may be tricky in their small lot (was totally full when I came) however it's very easy to park on the street. *Get a number before you get in line* Got here today and the lines were unusually short, usually they're down the hall. For reference it was noon on a Thursday. Waited about 10 minutes and my number was called. The people here are super friendly considering it's a government office. Ha ha. The process was bogged down due to having to email my insurance card to them and wait for them to print it. They could see my car was inspected so I didn't need that paper. All in all in was ok. Improvement since my last review. The only thing I hated was not knowing you need to make an appointment for title related business. It took two weeks to get an appointment so plan ahead. My vehicle came from NH and I was certain they would find something wrong based on past experience but to my surprise they gave me my plates. Tax money for everyone! read more

My experience here, today was great. I have a anxiety about visiting government offices, because my experience with them has not always been pleasant for a variety of reasons. But this location was very clean and quick. The person that took me into the door was very helpful and even navigated the computer system to get me a waiting ticket. The wait was reasonable to see someone at a window. And at the window, my transaction was very smooth and the agent was very helpful and friendly. So easy! That is if you make an appointment ahead of time (read - several weeks ahead of time). I needed to come in to renew my registration and scheduled an appointment about three weeks in advance as that was the soonest available. Upon arrival the door is locked but fairly quickly an attendant came out to let us in. As soon as you enter they check temperatures and mask use and mark people off the appointment list. Social distancing is enforced and all staff were wearing masks as well as face shields. Be sure to check the website for required documentation to expedite the process. Went to get a handicap placard to replace mine that had expired. Web site is very unclear about whether I could hand in my old placard or need a new prescription. The door check person was efficient but approved my paperwork and then I got a ticket. Got called to the window and was then told I need a new prescription. I was handed yet another form from the door checker and I can't tell that I really need it. I had called ahead to check on the process and she advised that I only needed the old placard. I had to Uber over there, it cost me $30+ to get there and come home. Came again after getting Nurse Practitioner to sign on the form and add a prescription. Desk person took almost 30 minutes calling around and checking as we had changed temporary check box to permanent. Last thing she said before I left was, "You don't need a prescription any more." This is one of the most painless car registrations I have had to do. I was worried about registering my car from Arizona to Texas and all of the paper work but they had all the information online about the process. I had the form I needed and all supporting documents at the ready. I got there about 20 minutes before they opened and there was already a line outside the office. When they opened at 8 everyone filed in. I was serviced and done by 8:15. They really got their process down and had enough employees to assist everyone. I really like that they had someone coming by while we were waiting to make sure we had everything we needed to get our stuff done. That was a nice help to check and make sure I had everything. They have parking on both sides of the building so had no issues there. Also, the tax office is on the first floor. Very good experiences. :) read more

I went to other places around town to get my vehicle registered for the state of Texas and I couldn't even make it in the door. This place was the complete opposite. They had a lovely lady at the door to make sure you had your correct documents before getting a ticket. (I checked online first for all of my needed documents.) She confirmed I had everything I needed and I was at a window immediately after. Going to places like this always makes me so nervous, but I was at ease here. read more

I stopped by to get my vehicle registration and renewal. The front of the building does not have any signs so it's easy to drive right by and pass it. This location accepts cash or check only. So the wait was horrible but of course you knew that was going to be the case. If you get lucky, Monica is going to be the person who helps you. She was pleasant, helpful, and efficient. She is, in my experience, the exception to the rule that government employees have to be unpleasant. So give yourself an hour to stand in line. And cross your fingers that Monica is on duty that day. This location usually has a long wait, but I think that is similar to the other locations as well - so prepare and bring reading material. Parking used to be ample but lately due to all construction and traffic in this neighborhood it has gotten rather hectic. There is parking at the building as well as street parking on Pech road. You might have to walk a bit to the Tax office. I ended up parking about 2 blocks away as it was close to 4pm on Wednesday. Upon walking in you are greeted with several employees that steer traffic. They were very helpful and put me on the right line. After reading my book for about an hour I got to the counter. Sonji was very helpful - she took care of what needed to be done and was able to answer all vehicles related title and inspection questions that I had on another vehicle. I give this office 4 out of 5 due to the wait (one hour and a half!) but otherwise the service is top notch! read more
