We have been to this great park on a couple of occasions this past fall. We do the Harris Lake Peninsula Trail, which is just a hair over 4 miles (per my watch). It's a loop with some water views, make sure to wear some good sneakers or hiking shoes. We usually arrive around 9-10 am on a weekend, parking hasn't been a problem at these times. I like that the trail never seems overcrowded. I walk a lot and at about a 3 MPH pace on concrete. This 4 mile trail loop takes my husband and I about 1 hour 45 mins to 2 hours to do. I'd avoid taking anyone here that is unsteady on their feet, for example this would be too much for my senior citizen mom. My energetic puppy loved going on a walk here! read more

What a nice park! We took a short hike which had a number of spots with views of the lake! We only came across a few others on our mid morning Sunday walk. After our walk we headed over to the playground. Lots of fun things for my toddler to play on. He really enjoyed the special swing and the tunnel to run through. read more

There is so much to do at this park. We visited to hike with our dog around the Peninsula Trail, unfortunately it was too muddy. Instead we walked the Cypress Tree Trail, did the StoryWalk and explored other areas. There are mountain biking trails, areas for fishing, lots of picnic shelters, a disc golf course, volleyball court and playground here. I can't wait to return soon. read more

Great little park with plenty of ways to relax or stay active including trails, lakes for boating, and picnic areas. We went on Mother's Day this year and it was relatively packed on such a beautiful day. Overall, a gorgeous park nestled among the wooded areas and lakes. read more

Once COVID 19 passes the park has much to offer: hiking, picnicking, shelters, playground, fishing, canoeing, mountain bike trails, environmental education, educational gardens, volley ball and disc golf. Next May15, 2021, the Annual Longleaf Pine Festival will return! Currently to abide by safety orders, the number of visitors allowed inside the park at one time is limited. Once the cap is met, cones closing off the entrance will be visible meaning no one lease is allowed in to visit. It does sit on the Shearon Harris Reservoir, accessible by boat from ramps outside this County Park. The lake is beautiful without development on its shores. Home to many bald eagles! However, the white odorless steam from the nuclear power plant is always visible on the horizon. read more

Great place to go on a sunny day! The playground is a good size and well kept. The trails are always nice and clean other than some mud after rain. There are bathrooms and a info building alongside the beautiful lake. The park is dog friendly and there is also a great course for frisbee golf! Will definitely be coming back! read more

What an amazing place. The atmosphere here is absolutely electrifying. Maybe it's the lake and all the trees that give this place an unusual energy. I don't know, but I was surprised how clean and well manicured the grounds are. The kids loved the playground and this pitstop helped avert some potential meltdowns on our long journey. On our way out of the park and back onto the highway the powerful blast of radiant light from the sunset created a blinding hazard as we drove into the sun, but in the rearview mirror was a beautiful iridescent glow. read more

My ONLY complaint about this park is how far away it is. But then again, it's a fun drive out there, and it makes for a great weekend outing. I suspect Progress/Duke has shelled out a ton of $$$ to make this park what it is. I don't really care why it's so nice though. The frisbee golf course is fun and well maintained. The kids playground was a big hit with my kids. The bathrooms are nice, big, and clean. They have an ICE MACHINE available to folks who want to picnic. I've not been far on the walking trails and I haven't braved the MTB stuff yet, but I assume they're just as nice as the rest of the park. read more

Nice park with great MTB trails but they close the trails too often and for too long. That's not just this year with our rainy winter. It's all the time. I suspect they don't have any upside in opening trails quickly after they dry because there is no park admittance fee. So if they keep the trails closed for a week longer than necessary to dry, no sweat off their backs. read more

Okay, so don't get freaked out that this park was built on land owned by Progress Energy and Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. I have been assured (multiple times) that it is safe to swim in the water and breath the air surrounding this nuclear plant. I have been here many times, and as of yet I haven't grown any weird boils or extra fingers. In fact, this park is yelp-tastic! Apparently, it has some great mountain biking trails, but I wouldn't know. I don't mountain bike, not yet. I have ran and hiked almost all the trails in this park and think they are some of the best around. Also, Frisbee golf is huge here. But the trails aren't why I decided to yelp about this park (even though they are worthy of yelping about). What has earned all of this glory is the water. I have been dying to get in some lake water since last summer and since moving back from the mountains, and Harris Lake is the perfect place to do so. If you have a boat, this is where you need to be. Go at dusk/evening and the fishing is good and the boat ramps aren't crowded. There is no fee for this park, so stay as long as you want. Also, it's super close to Cary, even if the address says New Hill. Which I have never heard of. I consider it Fuquay/Holly Springs. read more

This is my favorite park in the area hands down. They have a good amount of bike trails (and for different skill levels) so you can always find something for you. The actual park is gorgeous and I love going and looking out onto the lake. Great walking trails and volleyball courts. They also have disc golf which is a lot of fun if you haven't tried it. They also have boat access for the lake The playground looks great for kids - they always seem to be having a good time. There really is something for everyone - and the view is gorgeous. read more

Great Lake for boating and fishing. Always catch a ton of bass and catfish every time I am here. The lake itself is beautiful and very clean. It's usually not very crowded either which makes for a relaxing day. No boat fee either which is another great perk. read more

I can only vouch for the pavilions and the areas around them. Went here with a few toddlers and it was a blast. They have cleared a few areas so you can get right down on the lake, shore fishing looks allowed and my 2 year old loved watching some of the people pull-up little perch and release them. The playground is very well maintained and has something for all ages. There is a large field to run around and play on. What was awesome was watching a pair of apaches run maneuvers right above us. My son was screaming helicopter the entire time.. read more

Love this park! Super nice playground with a tot lot and kids lot overlooking the lake. Also, lots of biking and hiking trails, a disc golf course, sand volleyball court, fishing pier, & boat access! All for free! Not to mention tons of picnic tables with beautiful lake views! And so close to Holly Springs/Fuquay/Apex/Cary!! Why didn't I discover this place sooner? I really wish yelp had a 10 star system. I have been there and enjoyed it prolly a dozen times. Today though I was extremely disappointed by the numerous Gypsy Moth tents destroying the hardwoods. It was ugly. read more
