I've been to this location a few times, but it's very out of the way for me from where I live, so I only come here when I'm downtown on East Bay. It pretty much has everything I'm looking for, and it's set up in a very relaxing and easy to find stuff kind of way. Today I just tried a few muffins for breakfast, and some milk bones for my dog, and with my Vic card I saved a little bit of cash too. Came to this Harris Teeter for a couple of times when I was visiting from NYC. It's a huge supermarket. It's pretty nice and doesn't look cheap at all. Tons of parking outside. Service was good. They have a a wine section, nice bakery, a Starbucks inside and tons of other goodies that you can't find at other grocery stores. read more

I mainly stop in here for the Starbucks. The store itself is smaller than the ones out near my house but it seems well-stocked. It seems to stay pretty busy too as there are usually lines at the registers and at customer service. Great grocery in downtown Charleston! It's the only big grocery store in downtown, so it's the spot where everyone goes to get their groceries! It's got a good selection! They frequently have a lot of good markdowns and deals! They also have a college student discount, which is awesome as it's the only really big grocery store downtown near the college. The employees are really nice and helpful there. If you go later in the afternoon they have cheese and wine samples, which is fun while you're shopping around! I do wish they had a better selection of frozen food, but other than that it's my go to for my grocery shopping! read more

I wish the partitions separating the produce and checkout lanes weren't there- it really crowds things/ makes the space feel more closed-in. I stopped in after work for a few small items and left. Just swung by the Harris Teeter on E Bay St during my shift for a quick bite to eat. I got a ready to chicken Parmesan meal and a bottle of water. Total price of my meal was less than seven dollars which is a great deal given how filling and delicious my meal was. Even though it was busy, the cashiers did a great job of getting everyone through the line in a timely manner. Overall a positive experience. read more

ALSO, if you shop after 5 on a weeknight there are also often samples of decent wines (yes, they card) that are often paired with cheeses and/or meet. Went to Harris teeter at 5 AM this morning... I am a night shift nurse so I am awake when other people are not. Therefore, having this amazing grocery store close and open 24/7 is an absolute luxury. All the produce is freshly stocked every morning and the store is always squeaky clean. Also, if you have the VIC card they offer you can save on some great deals. Every time I enter the store an employee is there greeting me with a smile while always going out of their way to assist me. There is a wide selection of seafoods, meats, cheeses, baked goods and anything else you could need. In addition, when the VIC card is used at checkout all the points are then available to use for discount at the gas pump... the gas stations linked to the card are bp or Harris teeter gas stations. One catch is the VIC card points for gas is cleared at the 1st of every month, so use your gas points wisely. Store has an ok selection but for the third time this week the check out personnel are more concerned with their cell phones than actually checking me out!! They are so rude and barely say anything to you.. even when you go out of your way to try to ask them how their day is going etc, they just give you a blank stare. One young man was so preoccupied with reading his phone he was checking out my groceries at a snails pace which was very frustrating as I was trying to hurry because I left something on the stove. Just terrible customer service which is extremely frustrating. If I was the manager of this store I would not let the employees have cell phones at their stations as it could cause mistakes and upset customers. Very frustrating. The US really does have some very good grocery stores. To me this store is not unlike Whole Foods (which is my only real frame of reference). Stopped here for some items while on vacation. It was a decent little walk from our hotel. It reminded me of a Whole Foods or Fresh Market. Seemed to have a lot of items catering to food allergies as well as vegan/vegetarians. The prices were similar to those establishments as well. The biggest plus is that it is open 24 hours. So if you forget something while on a trip or just decide you want to go grocery shopping at 2am, this is your place! read more

This Teeter is where I purchased my first alcohol after midnight on my 21st birthday. Aw. What's awesome about this is that it's a converted train station! Crazy, huh? I know. I actually like this location better. They usually have everything on stock which is great. I enjoy their super double coupons weeks. They have a big variety of organics which is a plus for me!! Although it does have a funny layout for a store. Employees are always wonderful and helpful. Store is always clean. Dont leave your car here thinking its free parking for downtown. Great produce selection (I can usually bet that I won't have to be looking for decades to find something that doesn't classify as "mystery fruit") and pretty awesome sandwiches. Today is my last visit to the sushi bar inside my favorite grocery store: Harris Teeter on East Bay. Every sushi food & related products they carry is Southern Tsunami manufactured for AFC CORP. When I learned that all farmed Salmon are dyed, I did notice these folks also used the dyed salmon. But today, I was told that they were getting rid of their undyed natural pickled ginger and replacing it with the pink ginger - ginger that is artificially colored. That's just what we need, MORE artificial coloring. I don't understand this reverse trend of ADDING artificial stuff instead of getting RID of artificial stuff. Even my cat's food costs more now because they promote the fact that the food has no artificial coloring. AND I pay for it because I like knowing that the less fake stuff that's in our foods, the less we're gambling with our good health. I only patronize my local sushi restaurants that carry the un-dyed pickled ginger and I expect no less from the convenient sushi outlets inside my grocery stores. Wow, this grocery store is huge and fancy! I really liked the separate produce/flower section that had the Starbucks in it, as well as the nice wine section and we were there around lunchtime and there were hardly any lines despite its downtown location. It is larger than the Harris Teeter that I used to frequent in Ballston. Two problems: one, for a grocery store that is this big and nice that also serves drinks, I think they should have better bathroom facilities. The bathroom was not very clean and you have to wind around through the back warehouse to get to it. And second, the fish selection was a little disappointing. The Ballston Harris Teeter has a very nice fish selection including sashimi grade fish and a wide variety of other options. Here, there was less variety and no sashimi grade fish! Sad, especially because it is in Charleston! I associate Charleston in my mind with good seafood. Oh well, all in all this was a nice, clean, conveniently-located store that meets almost all needs except for seafood. A-OK. read more

I got to the door at 9:50 pm and was stopped by a lady closing the automatic doors on me. I know that I was coming late but I simply needed to grab 1 item. I practically begged the lady to let me in ya know Ten minutes before closing and was very polite. I explained all I needed was sandwich meat, I knew exactly where it was and I would practically run to get it, I just needed it for tomorrow. She said in response "nah" followed by another rude comment, which I can't fully recall but kept closing the doors and actually smirked at me when she saw my disappointment. She had butterfly lip piercing and took joy in my misfortune. I would be completely ok with her actions if she was polite about it. I understand what it's like for a person to come in at the end of your shift, but to be a dick about it, is an entirely different story. I've never been treated so terribly in my entire life by a manager. I don't like to complain I'm not going to say any names here but I am going to call corporate and file a complaint with them. I literally felt belittled and can't remember the last time I was so publicly embarrassed. Maybe I caught him on a bad day but a manager is supposed to handle situations and De-escalate a situation not turn it into a full blown verbal altercation. Smack dab in the center of town with a generous parking lot. It is from the Albertson's family of grocery stores. It was clean, stocked, organized, well lit, wide aisles...but nothing gourmet or something to write home about. They do carry bread from a local bakery and I did see a cheese made from a local creamery...nice touches as I am a fan of reducing your carbon footprint and supporting/eating local. There was a Starbucks inside with four tables and free wireless. You could also get a sub or a mini pizza (but it is ready in 90 seconds-ew). I would also skip the sushi. Small beer selection with a mix your own six pack option. No liquor. They did have some decent snacks like seeded curry mango tortilla chips, Sahale snacks, and Hint Fizz Water. Also, you can pick up some fresh cut flowers. There were tables set up outside which was a nice treat for my tired barking dogs aka feet....and I found it entertaining watching two guys drinking beer out of their refillable water bottles.....very odd. Late night shopping with a cart full sucks because I had to use self check out with over 60 items :-/ also had a very bad experience with a male manager here. Really treated me like dirt and embarrassed me publicly. Very disrespectful and should know how to interact with customers properly being a manager.
