I have been shopping at Food Lion on Johns Island for about 5 yrs. Today was awful. Lots of empty shelves and refrigerators not stocked with anything but energy drinks. It was packed with only one checkout working, there was another with no light where a cashier begrudgingly rang up my groceries while on her cell phone. Worst was that I went to the water fountain and there was an army of ants crawling all over the drain . I looked for a manager but nobody was around. Was disappointing to say the least. read more

I want to love this Food Lion, but it just needs too much work. They "remodeled" a few years ago but the store is still dingy and old. They need to gut the thing and start over -- the outside needs a good cleaning as well. The employees are always friendly but shelves have plenty of bare spots and lines for check out are long. I'm sure it is not easy to find staff to work, so I certainly sympathize here. Overall, I only "run" to Food Lion if I need a couple things quickly. Otherwise, I drive a couple extra miles to stores with better selections, that are cleaner, and well staffed. read more

Awful service from the older, overweight lady with the bad wig. Her name tag wasn't visible on her sloppy uniform but she did say she was the customer service manager. She answered her personal cellphone mid sentence with me. When she couldn't figure out what to do I said I'd call my credit card company. I was telling the representative on the phone that it's the third location I've been to that doesn't know how to take payment and she interrupted me saying "don't tell 'em I don't know how to do it because I do." I told her she was being rude and she said "I'm just sayin' don't say that." What in the hell is wrong with you? I walked out. She needs some training. read more

Have walked out of here twice now after seeing the lines for check out. It's obscenely bad. Hire more people, pay more if you have to. It's wasting my time to even attempt to shop here, won't even bother trying next time. read more

This isn't so much of a review of Food Lion in general as it is a commentary on their awesome staff. Mind you, I do prefer to shop at Food Lion and have for many years. After last nights heavy drinking escapade on Johns Island, I woke up on the verge of death. Every box in the hangover column had been checked. Somehow, I rolled out of bed late this morning and drove to Food Lion in search of things that would alleviate the situation. In no time at all, I located sausage biscuits, advil, and Kinderlyte. During this time I had no less than three very pleasant interactions with their staff, who all were cheerful, helpful and talkative. I even stood in the parking lot and had a brief chat with the cart attendant. That's rare for me, especially considering the state I was in at the time. So if the management of this Food Lion location is reading this, know that you have an all star team working for you. read more

I'm not sure what all the huffing and puffing is about as it relates to Food Lion. I dare say that I'd rather food shop here than at Walmart, as the two share a similar customer base. My shopping list is slim as its just me and the pups. Food Lion sells meats, specifically chicken, at a reasonable price, and so the pups covered. For myself, fruits and vegetables have become a growing addition to my intake. Add in some can and jar -- avoiding boxes and bags. The customer service is knowledgable, engaging and very friendly -- and you can always find someone to answer any questions you might have. I fail to see what the fuss is all about. read more

Our favorite. We could go to Publix or Harris Teeter but prefer the family atmosphere at the Food Lion. The prices for goods seems to be competitive. I do miss a nice meat department but the selections displayed are fine. The checkers are all very friendly. read more

I use the food lion to go service through the Johns island SC store frequently, mainly to help me stay in budget, I can be an impulsive shopper. If I'm in a hurry a lot of times I can place my order and pick up on the same day. The shoppers are great! They're attentive and friendly. I love that when items or brands are out of stock they're able to text me for alternatives. I can also make changes during this time. I find the whole process sooo easy and stress free. Worst supermarket!!! Doesn't matter what time of the day or day of the week you show up. What about night workers!! I was on a line for more than 20 minutes ! While Aryn was SLOWLY checking out customers. He was so busy conversating with the others rather than do his job. The lady before me even left the line and put her items back. she's a better person than me i would have left them right there. Then the MOD i guess cause she was right there allowing this to happen, comments "because seems like that same lady in front of me called "Gary" (to complain) the manager from what I have been told that's the managers name. Her response was "that's what happens when you wait until the last minute ". First of all she doesn't know anybody's situation to even make a comment like that, Second of all if you were "a manager on duty" your job is to make sure those lines move and to only have two cashiers on a register and watch this kid talk to somebody else while he was cashing us out is unacceptable. It's very sad that this is the ONLY supermarket available to us on Johns Island. A place that seems to be growing but businesses are lacking to say the least!! read more

I am writing this to warn everyone reading this to NEVER get their fried chicken. For the second (and now, the last) time, the chicken was overdone or the grease was just dark and old. All I can say is that I dumped it out after the first meal, even though I had an 8 piece dinner. Not a good cashier either this time. Came up with the fried chicken and some other things and as always said Hi--how're you doing. No. Response. Just began checking the groceries without a word, or even asking for my Food Lion card, which I presented to her anyway. Then, the chicken rang at $7.99 when there was a $4.99 price on the deli shelf. Telling the cashier was a waste, as she twice told me in response to my saying the shelf said less. what it rang up for, I guess stating that there never (hah!) is a problem with this store's pricing, etc. Rather than make a scene or ask for a manager, I just made a mental note and left, as I needed to get home (less than a mile away). Gonna avoid Food Lion as much as is humanly possible and NEVER EVER get their fried chicken again. No exceptions. Harris Teeter has good chicken as does Publix. Yep, a bit further to go, but worth it. read more

I like this little grocery store. They keep it organized, well lit and clean. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. It's really cool when they see you and recognize you and say hi to you by name. There's a good selection of general groceries, produce is fresh, meat selection is good and there's a decent wine selection. Prices are great. The deli ready-made meals are basic. Mostly deep-fried and high-fat choices. I wish they had a better selection of fresh made, healthier choices in this department. lots of parking, and easy to access. The only downside I can think of is there are rarely any small hand baskets. I also wish there was more staff working when it's peak times (5 to 7pm-ish). read more

This food lion was really on the up-swing after it was remodeled. The customer service improved and the selection was much better. However, I'm afraid that it's slipping back into the way that it used to be..... The staff is super rude, the store is frequently way under stocked, and they only have two lines open on the weekend (and one is 12 or less only). I would honestly avoid this store if you have a better option, it's gotten really frustrating to shop. read more

I really like this Food Lion location. It is convenient to get in and out of and stays open to 11pm which is really good for later night needs. This store is always clean and well run. They are well stocked and it is easy to find everything you need for groceries. read more

This store is not close to either my office or my house but I pass it every day on my commute. I will sometimes stop in for necessities although it is not my regular store by any means. It is clean and the produce is fresh and they have good prices and stock most of the basics that I buy. I'm glad it's here! read more

In the world of Food Lion this one usually gets a bad rap too BUT for no real reason. Great looking produce in it's smaller produce section and good prices all around. I noticed some recent upgrades so maybe they're enroute to a full overhaul?? For prices and necessities, I call it the best grocery store in the area. Quite possibly the worst grocery stores it have ever been in. Very poor selection of any organics and fresh produce too. The store creepily is always waxing floors when I manage to go in, totally random. Unfortunately it's the closest to my development but even then, I only go for dry goods, beer or frozen food. read more

This grocery store is no frills but is clean, well stocked and friendly employees. The produce department while smaller than other stores is very clean with fresh vegetables and fruits. Same for the meat dept good variety and the prices are great throughout the entire store. I drive past a BI-LO to come here. This Food Lion tops that store in all aspects! read more
