We used to call this the Tajma-teeter when they moved to the larger location in Friendly shopping center. I don't come here much anymore but every now and then. It has been hit or miss for me: bad shrimp, over the hill veggie tray.. The staff has always been great and they have a Starbucks attached. Right now, they have a deal on their sub and soda combo, where, every time the Carolina Panthers make a number of sacks (whatever that is), the cost of your combo equates to that number. In their last game they made 2 sacks so a combo with a half sub and 20 oz coke product was only $2! Happens on Tuesdays. Otherwise, specials come out on Wednesday and Friday. Wait until you receive the Friday email however because sometimes it will say $10 of a total of $65 or $100. My pet peeve is misrepresenting a product. I was at the seafood counter and saw a great Saturday special, shelled snow legs crab. Bought it, heated up the butter and opened the box to get imitation crab food. God knows what it is, it is definitely not crab. When my husband called to complain, the man who answered heard the complaint, said he would transfer the call to the manager. My husband was on hold for 10 minutes. Manager never answered. When I am in a hurry and need some basics, Food Lion works for me just fine. But when I'm wanting something of quality and more variety without spending an arm and a leg I usually head to Harris Teeter at Friendly Shopping Center. It's been called "Taj Mateeter" by many, and my mother, may she rest in peace, who loved to give everything a Jewish name, called it "Herschel Teeter". I love walking into that store. Wonderful salad bar, pizza stand, sushi, flowers, and rows and rows of an incredible variety of food. I'm usually working on my diet, so I like going there to find all of the low fat and healthy substitutes that are very difficult to find in the lower grade chains. The parking there is quite ample and they do a good job of keeping everybody COVID safe as much as possible. They have a beautiful variety of produce and their meats are very appetizing. Some of my favorite things to buy are their sweet Italian chicken sausage and always on sale are their chicken breasts at a $1.99 a pound. You cannot beat that price anywhere! They have a wonderful discount program called VIC, and most of the time I always opt for the VIC special which is considerably less than the normal price. Sometimes you can even get great deals like buy two Diet Cokes at the regular price and get three bottles for free. I really like that! I decided recently to break out of my box and walked into Whole Foods to check it out and consider it as an alternative to HT. Well, I almost passed out when I saw the prices. Maybe I was delusional but I could have sworn I saw some kind of mushroom for sale for like $25 a pound. What are they, magic mushrooms or something? LOL I quickly made a beeline exit and headed right over to my favorite Harris Teeter They also have a real nice floral section. I cannot tell you how many times I bought a bunch of flowers on sale, regrouped them and presented a beautiful bouquet to somebody for under $20. I also love their $4.99 roast chicken for sale on the weekends and also enjoy their rib baby back special as well. As you can see I'm a big fan. So next time, if you are needing more than what Food Lion has to offer and don't want to take out a mortgage to buy a pound of mushrooms, Harris Teeter is the place for you. The only thing I don't like about Harris Teeter at Friendly is I can always rest assured when I'm looking my absolute worst and in my dirty jogging pants with unbrushed hair and unshaven face I'm going to run into everybody I know. read more

They are very overpriced grocery store even with so called sale items they are still higher than most grocery stores. They also recently have smaller containers in their fridges which means u pay the same but u get a lot less. What a scam! Meat is all overpriced even when it's on sale! I shop only at ALDI's for organic meat and fruits/ vegetables,eggs and yogurt. I highly do not recommend Harris teeter here in North Carolina in the Greensboro area. We had done business with Harris Teeter for years but the decline of quality and the average high retail pricing has turned us away. We can buy the same product lines (brand for brand) for up to 31% less at competitors. We have several new grocery outlets in Greensboro that offer fresh produce as a standard and better selection of branded items. Harris Teeter is now used on an occasional basis for the above. I would suggest that you do a simple online price survey. Taking the customer for granted and foisting 'free" come-on's doesn't work for us or many of our friends. Go elsewhere. Great store to shop for food, but the Pharmacy is a different story. Pharmacy will switch brands on there medication and not tell you. They are using a cheap brand, kvk for there ocxycodone and it does not have much medication in the pills. Pharmacy know this and have no choice but to sell them to you. This company kvk has been taken to court by FDA AND sued for not putting enough medication in the pills more than once. Check your meds before you leave the counter. You will be stuck with a cheap product with no relief for pain. It socks. Shame on Harris teeter.. read more

I visited this store in the friendly shopping center and reluctantly used self chech out. i dont think i should wait on myself if I'm buying from a store. they should provide customer service. when checking out, the register said i needed assistance. an assistant approached and asked if i had put something in my pocket. i asked him to repeat that. he did with a chuckle and mentioned that the machine cost thousands and was very sensitive. i responded and told him that the matter was not funny and i dont steal. Not all locations of Harris Teeter are created equal as you'll soon learn when visiting this location--the granddaddy of all Harris Teeter stores! Also known as the Taj MaTeeter (or just Taj for short), the Friendly Center Harris Teeter is the flagship store for the entire company. And, boy, does it live up to its name!! Not only does the grocery store feature a large variety of everyday and hard-to-find grocery items, they also have 2 hot bars, a soup station, a salad bar, a pizza station, a pasta station, a sushi bar, and a sandwich station. There's also a separate deli featuring fresh prepared foods and gourmet dessert and cheese counters! What more could you ask for?!?! The one pet peeve I have about Harris Teeter (and maybe more so for this location) is that the prices are too high. The hot food bar price is $5.99 / pound (as of this review), which may, at first, seem reasonable but, to me, is unfair. For example, a prepared food item like a green pepper stuffed with ground beef should be fairly inexpensive on a food bar because the ingredients to make such a dish are minimal and (for the most part) cheap. Nonetheless, the stuffed pepper is one of the most dense and heavy weighing item on the buffet. Just selecting a couple of these can increase the weight of your total order by 3 or more times, resulting in a very expensive take away meal. Don't get me wrong, I love the Teet (my nickname for Harris Teeter stores in general), but visiting the prepared food bars and counters in this location will set you back more than a few bucks! read more

This review is for the hot bar which has a broad array of freshly prepared food throughout the day from breakfast to dinner. In addition to a great salad bar, they offer Asian (including sushi), pasta, and comfort food. Their pizza is fantastic, rivaling any pizzeria in town. You can buy it by the slice or pie. The best deal is on Mondays when a large pizza with toppings (we ordered ours with three toppings) for $7.99 - best deal in town! Order ahead and pick it up so there's no waiting. (Their pre-made take and bake pizzas are not quite as good as the ones they make for you) They have a seating area if you want to eat there. I like this HT. It's clean, small and open 24 hours. The staff here is very friendly, and it seems so genuine. They do not have self checkout, and the selections are limited. Not many generic or lower end items. I would say it's perfect to 'pick up a few things' while you're in the area. Coming from another state where grocery stores this lovely are incredibly expensive. What a delight it was to see a store of this caliber but yet affordable, too. I've been hearing about this place for years from a friend of mine who lives in the area. She raves (and giggles at the name) about its plentifulness. When I want a quick sushi fix, I traverse to this particular Harris Teeter to fulfill it. There are so many choices to choose from, that I end up buying 2-4 cartons of it. Sometimes, I want to get a little creative and ask the sushi chef to whip up something for me. He does it, no problem. I have yet to be disappointed. This store is massive. Tons of produce, floral section, a healthy selection of wine, a nice deli, and amazing hot bar! The staff are pretty friendly. Like, Chick-fil-a friendly. Taj Mateeter... This is one of the best Harris Teeters I have ever been in. It is always clean and they have everything.

I must eat gluten free. This Harris Teeter offers a wide variety of gluten-free products. They also offer fascinating cheeses from around the world. Their Boars Head London Broil in their deli area is delightfully medium rare and full of flavor. What a delight to have such a good beef product. There was a young man working at the free-standing area of Boars Head products where he was offering an array of tasty treats made from various items. I brought him examples of gluten-free breads, flatbreads, and crackers that he could use to make gluten-free items so others like me who must eat gluten free have something they can eat. Another time I visited there, I found Bonne Maman(R) Pumpkin Spice Spread. The next time I came in, I wanted to buy all of it that they had in stock. They'd moved the display, so I couldn't find it. I had more-than-one employee helping me find more jars of it. They were successful and found the last 3 jars in the store. I bought all 3 and had already bought one. It's delicious. On one of those visits, I found a free-standing display on which 3 pumpkin-spice cereals were displayed. Since 2 were gluten free (Cheerios and Kellogg's Frosted Flakes), I bought both of them too. Both were tasty. I found everyone with whom I interacted to have excellent customer-service skills, a ready smile, a good attitude, and lots of helpfulness. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I fairly frequently travel by that store, so I'm going to choose that site over several other Harris Teeter stores because of all their staff members with whom I've had pleasant interactions. read more

This HR pharmacy department is the worst. I was waiting for my mastitis antibiotic medicine over a week. I called them daily basis and their answer always been "it will be ready this afternoon" but they NEVER actually checked their inventory or never informed when I can actually expect my prescription. Finally, my doctor sent my transcription to Walgreen a week after suffering from pain and fever. We just couldn't trust them that they will have THIS AFTERNOON. I went to get my baby's eczema on 1/2/2021their answer was it will be ready this afternoon again. I went back on Sunday the young woman pharmacist said "well you don't have the updated insurance card and its out of stock." I responded to her I wont update my information if she wont have my prescription there is no need for that or it doesn't matter if I have insurance or not I need the medicine for my newborn baby. She kept saying we need new insurance information I finally pipped up I will wait till this afternoon and update my insurance card if you are 100% sure you will have the cream" she didn't say anything and walked away. I had to repeat myself she said "I'm checking now it wont be ready till Wednesday" I said "Are you 100% certain that it will be ready by Wednesday" she said I'm not sure." I cant believe how irresponsible and unprofessional they are. their pharmacists should take their job more serious they are in medical field that people need their attention and assistant. not demand insurance card or misinform the eta on medicine. We needed those medicine and didn't seem like they care if we are sufferings from pain and fever. read more

I'm always impressed by how genuinely friendly the staff are here. Some of my favourite people to see each week work in the deli and seafood/meat section. It's so weirdly encouraging to see the same welcoming faces each week & know i'll get fantastic service. I'm also impressed by the politeness & efficiency of the cashier staff. Often my fiance and I have a basket with 3 separate orders (mine, his, and a section of the cart for my Mom's items which have to be rung up separately.) I am always so grateful that the cashier staff take this is stride, promise that it's no problem at all, and proceed to check us out in record time. I actually feel LESS stressed after shopping at Teeter. Ultimately, yes Harris Teeter charges "too much" for some things and YES, it is a corporate chain just like all the others. This is the Madison Square Garden of Harris Teeters. Wandering around here is like visiting IKEA, the only exception being that there is more food here and also probably a slightly less chance of acquiring a wooden splinter here.It has surpassed Shop Rite as my favorite grocery chain. Before I even arrived in Greensboro I heard about his store. I guess I'm a bit of a grocery store snob, but it usually works out in my favor because I always know the best places to stuff my face. Unlike my grandmother, I'm not much of a value shopper and I don't normally look at prices when I'm buying. I couldn't help but to notice how expensive it was here. A few things I regularly buy are several dollars higher, even with a VIC card. I was first drawn to the huge hot foods section and salad bar. On closer inspection there wasn't anything spectacular and the salad items aren't much more than lettuce and a bunch of blended items. The dressing selection is lacking too (they have romaine lettuce and anchovies, but no Caesar dressing). The hot foods are only available during certain times, so be sure to check before you try to grab a late lunch. I made that mistake and I was stuck with the leftovers from the Asian bar and by that time all of the meat had been picked out. read more

According to Wikipedia, this is the largest Harris Teeter (in the world!), and I'd like to think that some of the quality items in it that you don't find at typical grocers are thanks to that claim of massiveness. Produce is usually nice, and while cheaper can be found up the road at SuperG, the veggies and fruits from HT do seem to have more longevity. Shop here for the specials and the HT-brand items, though, because there's a lot of things that in the last four years here have just shot up in price on even simple stuff like pasta. While the fact that it is open 24-7 is great (for 4AM exciting adventures that aren't at Jan's House?), be sure to try to make it in during the day and hit all of the free samples.
