It's the only grocery store available at Freshfields, and most of the time it gets the job done just fine. Anyone who's stayed on either Seabrook or Kiawah Island is most likely intimately familiar with this Harris Teeter. On many visits, we've found this store to be relatively well-stocked. However, the week before Easter was definitely a busy one for this store, and they were cleaned out of a lot of their typical offerings. For example, their take-and-bake pizzas are an easy and decent dinner after a day at the beach, but to our surprise, there were none left when we stopped in around 5 PM on a Wednesday. I'm confident that this not a regular occurrence - but something to note if you're visiting during the busy season. I will echo other reviewers that mentioned narrow aisles and an interesting layout. This store is definitely on the smaller side, and can feel crowded when there's multiple people in one aisle. One way to avoid this is shopping outside of peak hours ... early in the morning our later at night. The cashiers are mostly friendly and always fast. If you come from a state with Kroger or Fry's instead of Harris Teeter, rest assured that you can still input your phone number for your shopper rewards. Another positive is that I haven't noticed a difference in prices from this store and non-touristy grocery stores. Again, it does the trick for being the only grocery store at Freshfields. However, it could certainly use a little love and a few updates. read more

I have been shopping there since I moved here a year ago, and been buying all my meat there. last Week I asked the manager if this select was all Natural and organic. He answered me our meat is not natural or organic. I asked him well why does the sign above say it is and why don't you take it down? He told me would he wasn't going to take it down if I wanted to get on a ladder and take it down, and he gave me a smirk to go with that. I can imagine what else in the store is deceptive. This Harris Teeter is the only grocery option in a touristy area. The inventory, prices, and policies are much like any other Harris Teeter. That's where the similarities end. This HT needs some TLC. The floors are concreate and on my last visit, they were dirty with spilled liquids. Items are left out, like someone was stocking and forgot to go back and finish- thankfully, it was nothing perishable. The store's layout makes it hard to find many items. For example, the protein bars are on the endcaps in the frozen foods section, and the fresh seafood is in the back corner. The aisles are extremely narrow, without much room to move around or push a cart. Admittedly, I never noticed this as much until the COVID-19 lockdowns and social distancing. I see more mask-wearers in this store than others and understand why. If you're on Johns Island, Seabrook, or Kiawah, this is the place to do your shopping. However, as far as Harris Teeter stores go, the shopping experience isn't as good as others in the Charleston area. read more

This grocery store is the only one within 10-15 miles of Seabrook/Kiawah Island. It's ok, you can tell there's no competition because they don't really try that hard when it comes to customer service, especially the deli department and bakery. It seems like they're overworked because when they see you standing there you can definitely sense that they are annoyed that they have to help you. Regardless, the cashiers are mostly nice and the grocery baggers are always cheerful. They usually have whatever you need at slightly elevated prices from the other stores like Publix. read more

This is the place to shop if you are staying on Kiawah or Seabrook Islands. The store has tons of food options. You can find whatever groceries you need. In addition to that there are many ready made food options. The fresh meats look fresh and great. The produce area is filled with many choices that look great too. There is also a large selection of cheeses. And the dessert area is my favorite. There is a Starbucks in the store too. The only way to get the stated discounts is by having a Harris Teeter card. We just asked if the cashier if we could use his and he did. I like shopping at this store. Great selection. Sales prices are wonderful. Easy to get in and out. The store can get crowded but there are several cash registers. read more

Yes, it's a proper Harris Teeter buried in the Freshfields shopping center. I would have thought it would be more targeted to the vacation homes here but they still have all the goodies that I have come to expect from this excellent grocery chain. Produce, deli, meats, seafood, groceries, beverages, wine, beer, deli, yes, they have all of that. I don't know why there was a queue of eight people waiting at that seafood counter - it's the same exact seafood here from the same warehouse (more or less) that I get up in Charlotte. Whatever. We picked up a bunch of stuff for dinner and snacks and tomorrow's breakfast here. I can't believe I spent $180 on this stuff (normally a week's shop!) but it was all good quality and it was all eaten. Great stuff at Teeter. Don't forget to bring your reusable shopping bags! Update post-COVID-19: This location has been doing a great job trying to sanitize everything constantly. They've done their best to keep items in stock and sales rolling. Staff are helpful and enthusiastic. They've installed plexiglass shields at the registers. Even TP has been available in the mornings, but they have not received any hand sanitizer. Buffet-type options are no longer available. However, you can still ask for a slice of pizza or a custom sub. They have daily to-go dinner entree specials as well from 10 am to 8 pm on the warmer: Sun: $5 rotisserie chicken Mon: $6 pork lion Tues: $5 chicken breast Wed: $5 rotisserie chicken Thurs: $7 turkey breast Fri: $5 baked or fried chicken Sat: $5 baked chicken They are discontinuing their prime rib special and lobster dinner special during COVID-19, which doesn't make much sense to me because of other behind-the-counter specials available. Bought this sandwich this morning for lunch while working a long day at Kiawah. It was supposed to be a Maple ham slider. I guess technically it is correct in that there was Maple ham on it but the single paper-thin slice was not really enticing when I opened the sandwich because I was starving. The single slice did not even cover the three slider buns! One slice of lettuce, one slice of cheese, and a partial slice of maple ham. Tragic. I gave it two stars only because I felt sorry for someone who could not make a sandwich. read more

Replaced Newton Farms (Piggly Wiggly) with Harris Teeter. Bigger selection in longer Aisle makes it more of a "normal" Grocery. I prefer it that way since means you get upscale and regular items. I also got a VIC card even though I am only here part of the year which has some decent discounts. read more

Went here to check out the food selection on our vacation. This grocery store is disgusting. The refrigerator doors are broken and wide open. There is packaged food that has been opened, its contents spilling on the shelves. The floor is dirty as if it hadn't been swept in months. I was hoping this would be a great place to get groceries since it's so close to our hotel, but it's no longer an option. read more

This Harris Teeter serves a large contingent of folks staying for their holidays in rentals or vacation homes on Kiawah Island. We spend 6 glorious days on Kiawah and depended on the store for all our shopping needs. It is a big step up from the usual beach town supermarket and has a wonderful fish department with local options, very nice produce, a fine cheese selection, and good prepared options. During our March 2023 visit, it was clean, well-run, staffed by helpful folks, with pleasant checkout and ample parking. Clearly it's been improved since earlier poor review were posted. I'd also like to note, however, that many of the folks who visit high-priced Kiawah are suffering from chronic privilege syndrome and are apt to complain about anything rather than feelin grateful that there's a well-stocked little store available to them in this coastal spot where going out to eat quickly costs two people well over $100 for a simple meal. I love shopping at this store. When I lived in other parts of the country, I always was loyal to one brand of grocery store. Living in the Charleston area for the past 20 years I have found special things in several different brands of store so now I regularly go to several different stores. Luckily, this one is the closest to me house and most of what I need regularly I can get here. Unlike what some other reviewers have said, the prices here are the same they are at Harris Teeters in other less tawny Charleston neighborhoods. Also the specialty staff (eg seafood, meat, cheese) are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Also this store has very long store hours- making it extra convenient! read more

This Harris Teeter is the bomb.com. They have a huge outdoor seating area because this is THE place to go for lunch at Freshfields. We got a whole pizza and some drinks for under $20 and then sat outside and ate our food. Btw, there is another pizza place in this shopping center and their kids meals alone were $9...so don't even bother...just go eat here! They also had sub sandwiches made to order, a salad bar and more! read more

This was the worst Harris Teeter I've ever been too! I son needed to use the restroom when we first came in it looked like it hadn't been clean in days. Then we walked around, the layout of the store is bad. We found what we needed but the lines were butted up against the Isles so no one could walk around from the people waiting in line. Granted it was a Friday night probably from people coming in to town and buying their items for the week. Not sure we will be shopping here again. read more

Harris Teeter The Village Market at Freshfields on Johns Island/Kiawah/Seabrook is a great place to find the best groceries. After a day of beach or relaxing it is great to know that there is a quality grocery store right there that has everything you need in one place. I like the layout of this store with all of the windows and natural light. The bakery and wine section really stand out at this location as there are some great items regularly featured there that can turn a night around. This store is always clean and well run and everyone that works here does their best to make sure that you have a great shopping experience. I have always been impressed every time I have come in here and look forward to coming back many times in the future. read more

I go to this Harris Teeter at least 2-3 times a week. I love shopping here. What I don't like is paying $ 10.00 for two drinks from Starbucks and neither being what I asked for, and so bad that neither were drinkable. This has happened almost every time at this location. read more

I wouldn't suggest shopping here without their VIC card as the base prices are stupidly jacked for the vacationing type known to preen in these parts. Visiting Kiawah for the past 30+ years, in the past we'd have to either lug all of our groceries from home, stop at the Maybank Piggly Wiggly miles b4 arriving (it may have a different name now), or buy little bits of bare-bones sundries at the General Store just outside the gate. When Fresh Fields opened it was like clouds parting to the sound of angelic harps - groceries and shopping right at Kiawah lalalala!! Newton Farms became Harris Teeter and the quality, customer service, and prices have remained the same as one would expect around resort areas. Just sign up for the wee barcode-tag to attach to your keys - every bit of savings help at this location. Onto the deli area. We placed an online order for several different subs and sandwiches, along w/ two pizzas. My Dad picked everything up (it was ready promptly when he'd requested it on their -convenient!- website), and the sandwiches were all great, but the pizzas were slippery and shimmering w/ grease. They tasted and looked like the pizzas that had been sitting under the heat lamps in their glasses cases that would've been sold as individual slices to walk-up customers as opposed to the personalized order that we'd placed. I think we would've been happier w/ the pizza place over at Bohicket, and stuck to just HT sammies. Overall I'd give this Harris Teeter @ 3.5 stars b/c it's what one should expect of vacation-adjacent supermarkets: narrow aisles, endcaps laden w/ local jams, sunscreens, and visors, decent store-brand items, high prices, surprisingly good produce (but no match to down-the-road Rosebank Farms!), somewhat frustrating parking lot navigation, and quick and friendly customer service. (Although I will add that there is one gent who works there, and for several yrs. now always mistakes my Dad for my husband /shudder!!) read more

I ordered a custom-made 3-layer marble cake with chocolate frosting from the bakery at the Village Market for my husband's 70th birthday. I asked for a golf design and the entire top of the cake was a golf green, flag, ball, and even a sand trap! We celebrated at Hege's for dinner, and there were 14 of us. Everyone raved about the cake that we had for dessert. Thank you so much for contributing to a very happy occasion! Really poor customer service. Evidently their COVID return policy is that they don't take anything back. My wife bought 2 beach chairs in plastic wrap. We realized we didn't need them and tried to return them Immediately. Had the receipt. They were unused still in the plastic. We were told they couldn't sell them due to COVID since we touched them. I wonder how many times those chairs were touched to get them in the store or how often someone picks an item up in the store and then puts it back on the shelf. I'm not an infectious disease expert but I'm confident it's next to impossible to catch COVID this way. They are really just using COVID to take advantage of their customers. If they are going to have this policy they should at least have signs warning customers since every other store I shop at still takes returns. Ok it's Sunday, I work in Freshfields- I come to this Harris Teeter, possibly every other day. Thank god for Tiffany at Starbucks- she is the queen. If not for her, it would be a disaster. So many people throw drinks away. They come into where I work and all sing praises of her!!! Also, I think his name is DOT had to be the one to help me today, he got stuck making a a sandwich for me. I can stand there on any given day and wait 20 minutes for help. I only get a 30 minute break. I guess I'll be going to jersey mikes. We stayed at the Andell Inn for a weekend. Harris Teeter is a quick walk away. After two days of eating like pigs at Charleston restaurants, we went in for their salad bar. It was actually good. We also went in for some snacks and breakfast food. We have kids and wanted a few things in the hotel room. The selection is ok for snacks and food. I looked at the beer section as they have a mix-six option. Sadly, the local craft beer offerings were weak. How can that be in the Charleston area? One of the best beer towns in the south! The catch with this Harris Teeter is that it is the only grocery store on the area. You're sort of at the mercy of their monopoly. read more

As the only grocery store actually on Kiawah, this Harris Teeter does a good job providing all the necessary things you would want without just gauging your wallet. The staff is very helpful when you can find them. It took me a minute to get used to the layout, as the layout threw me off, but the only advice I can offer is, just keep going! Ha! If you don't already have a VIC card, ask someone else in your line if you can borrow theirs, and sometimes the cashiers have a spare for vacationers. The deli here is awesome and we picked up some firewood to have a fire as we were here during December for the Kiawah marathon and it was stupid cold! Horrible Horrible Horrible! I used to have my complaints about Newton Farms but in the end that was a nice supermarket considering the size and location. This new Harris Teeter is one of the worst supermarkets I've ever shopped at. Fish - looks like its been sitting around for weeks. Aren't we on the Atlantic coast? Butcher - thankfully Frank's sausage is still around, but I have a feeling we're going to be seeing more Johnsonville and less Frank based on all the other changes HT is making. Prepared food - The Newton Farms prepared food section was the worst thing about that market, yet this one is somehow worse. How about something edible we can buy and eat? Bread - they have La Brea which is fine, but finding a loaf with whole grains is like finding a four-leaf clover. Gourmet cheese selection - gone. Lots of pre-packaged stuff though! Spices - just McCormick regular brand. That's it. I got freaking Fennel Pollen in NF! Even Bi-Lo (Big Pig) has some gourmet spices. Wine - still outrageously overpriced, but without the great selection that NF had. They're running out of room for the mass-market swill. Beer - BRUTAL. What used to be a great craft section is now mostly Bud. Where's the local beer??? Palmetto? Are you kidding me? That's really the best you can do? Where's the Westbrook? Coast? Thomas Creek? This area is teeming with craft breweries, yet none seem to be represented. Seasonal - was just in there for Easter candy. No jellybeans, no chocolate eggs. But 5 different colors of peeps! Freaking ridiculous. Lamest holiday display I've ever seen. Anyway I used to shop at NF just about every day when I was on the island, now I stock up at Publix on the way in or in CHS when I am there, hoping I never have to set foot in HT. Only visited while on vacation but had a fine experience. Flowers: The floral department was lovely. I needed an arrangement for Mother's Day and it turned out great! Definitely pricey but it was worth it. Food/Beverages: I was tempted by the hot pizza line! But instead I shopped around for frozen pizza and wine. The selection was decent. Environment: Harris Teeter is always a delightful experience. This one in particular was clean with friendly staff. There's a Starbucks and a Redbox as well as a hot food line. Price: It's on the pricey side especially if you don't have a VIC card- it's free though so you should get one! Even after the VIC discount, the prices are on the higher side, so be prepared for that. read more

This Harris teeter is out at Kiawah. Some items are a little pricey but everything is similar to the other stores. Really big and wide open, one problem is the restrooms. Boy are they rough! Come one folks clean them up once and a while. One really positive note is the food! So good. They have specials, one side with and entree, $5! Cant beat that. Of course really delicious sweets. We loved this Harris Teeter being so close and convenient to the Marriott we stayed at. The prices were very reasonable for groceries and food. There is a Starbucks inside, a deli, a hot foods selection, salad bar, sushi, etc. We were not in the mood to go to a restaurant, just wanting to bring something back to our hotel.... my husband had a sub which he said was great and I had the hot bar with the salmon filet and veggies and green beans. I was surprised by how delicious it all was! very filling and good. we just sat on the patio at our hotel and ate and it made for a great evening. Would go back if we stayed longer and stock up on more groceries and snacks. Service was excellent, everyone was very friendly. read more
