The Deli!!! So...with all the choices we have in North Bethesda stop by HT and the Deli! I love these people and they need the love they deserve! Subs and pizza - best deal in town and they sink themselves into their craft! $7 for a huge sub and $12 for a large pizza! Cannot be beaten! The subs are huge! There was a checkout clerk (JR) who made inappropriate statements every time I and wife went through his line. He seemed incensed twice when we refused a plastic bag for packaged chicken(we use our own totes). We shop on senior discount day. I told him we are over 60 before he started scanning. He said, 'I know YOU are but I don't know about her.' Rude. I regularly see pet dogs in the store. The employees look the other way and don't approach these pet owners. Sales tags are often out of date. The shelvers make navigating difficult sometimes. Looking forward to the new Wegman's. read more

A rarely busy grocery store that's about a 5 min walk from the red line. I come here every two weeks for the selection. I'm bumping this up to 4 stars just because some of their competition in the area are having similar issues. RECOMMENDATIONS * Can't find something? Don't bother looking around for an employee, just go straight to customer service. * Don't bother going to the second level in the back unless you want fancy cheese or hummus. Their salad bar isn't bad. CONS * Produce section is just okay, lots of fruit options are blah. Also not much for organic in that area. * Bakery and onsite options I've tried on the 2nd level have been low quality. How do you mess up a slice of pizza and a muffin? * The Starbucks location inside the store is sometimes abandoned without any kind of notice. I couldn't find any hours, signage, or otherwise. * Prices are similar to an organic store up the road (Mom's) for some of the same products. PROS * Good selection, lots of specialty options. * Parking garage is great. * Clearance item shelf almost always has good stuff. I picked up a TON of half priced coffee from Maui months back that I'm still enjoying. * One of the few stores I've been to that hasn't married itself to self-checkout. Harris Teeter finally has store brand/kroger brand cat food! 3.15 lbs of dry food 3.49. That is super cheap. I used to have to go elsewhere for cat food, now I can do 1 stop shopping. I also like the salad bar. The Battery Lane location does not have a salad bar, only a hot bar. I guess there are not specific standard amenities for all locations. This one has the salad bar, in store bakery, deli, pizza, sushi, hot bar, starbucks, and single size drinks, as well as tables, on the 2nd floor. There is an elevator and stairs. Plenty of parking and walking distance to North Bethesda metro. They usually have individual bakery items such as rolls, bagels, donuts, but after 5:00 on Sunday they might be sold out. Prices are reasonable. Smaller than giant and safeway so faster to get in and out. All the lights on 1 side of the salad bar seemed to be burned out making it noticeably dark. They need to keep up with fixing light bulbs because they don't have traditional ceiling fluorescent lights, only single light bulbs. read more

This is one of my "go to" grocery spots in the area. It is two floors with a Starbucks, pharmacy, sushi bar, deli, and bakery on the top floor. On the bottom is everything your typical grocery store so you don't need to come upstairs usually to check everything off your grocery list. But if you need to they have convenient elevators that you can bring your grocery cart into. This location is well organized and never gets super crowded. They have lots of variety to choose from and do well keeping items well stocked. The only thing for improvement is there is usually a wait to check out because there are not a lot of employees working the registers. Make sure to bring your own grocery bags! read more

As always I have been going in and out of this place for groceries and I go to this pharmacy as well. It's really easy for me and my wife as we walk here together and get groceries, and also my daughter has to get Starbucks from her to. (Starbucks is located up stairs). Well as I as always I will be back I figured these folks work really hard out here especially the older and younger new folks. Respect for these people. read more

Yikes! What happen to the friendly staff? I had two pretty unpleasant experiences close together. One, they forgot one of my bags for pick up. I got home and noticed. I called the store and the employee said "yeah, there is a bag here." I was a little surprised no one called me after I left to let me there was a bag left behind - but benefit of the doubt maybe they just noticed. I told them I wanted a refund because I wasn't going to drive all the way back over. I was told I needed to speak with the manager. I was on hold for 10 minutes and finally hung up. No one called me back. I called Saturday and there was no "sorry" for the mix up or the difficulty getting through. Two, they called and said the order was late. No problem. They called while I was in the middle of something and I called right back. The employee asked if I listened to the VM - I said no I just called right back. He told me I was "supposed to listen to the VM first and then call" but that because I called he could "look it up" as he was doing me a big favor. Kind off turned off by the two recent trips. There is still some really friendly staff but the last two trips were pretty unpleasant. read more

I've been visiting this grocery store for 3 years now since I live next door. It is what it is for what you can expect from a Harris Teeter. A friend of mine visited from Seattle recently and absolutely loved it and the convenience it provides for nearby residents. It's always clean, neat and organized! There's things I like about it while others could use improvement. STARBUCKS! - Is on the top floor which is great for the residents that live in the nearby buildings! Staff there is great, quick and efficient! They once had the Starbucks unexpectedly closed and provided complementary coffee to make up for it which was a nice touch. DELI - They have a deli and prepared food on the second floor which is available 11 am to 8 pm and includes a pizza bar, usual Asian food, sushi, sub/sandwich station, rotisserie chicken for $7-8 amongst other things. The pizza is good, Asian food is average but that's what you can expect from a grocery store. The Pizza staff is great and attentive, they always make sure customers aren't standing around waiting too long before they're attended to. Kudos!! PHARMACY - always efficient, courteous and provides prompt service. However they close at 8 pm. PRODUCE - it's. No huge complaints nor compliments. I usually can find ripe avocados that aren't too old so that's a plus. FLOWER SHOP - This is probably my only gripe. I visited recently to get about 6-8 balloons filled for a birthday party, nobody was at the flower shop desk and there wasn't hours listed anywhere on a sign nor on the website. I had to ask one of the produce employees to assist me and after not being able to find the florist, they came over to help fill the balloons. He was really rushed and I ended up arranging the balloon bouquet myself as that was obviously not his forte. One of the balloons popped, in which I had to return to get another one filled. Same issue in not finding the florist and it seemed none of the nearby employees wanted to assist. I finally managed to get a lady to help me, she was definitely not in a good mood about it after commenting that the florist lady left for the day. I think it would be nice if management at least arranged to have someone available, trained and ready to assist in the floral department when the occasion arises. And it would also be nice for customers to know when the flower shop is open or available. The cashiers, especially Shela, are great, always friendly and helpful. Sometimes, the cashiers will clue customers in on good specials that available and coupons you can use and apply to your purchases. Overall, I'm pleased with Harris Teeter for the most part. read more

My how the mighty have fallen. I haven't been to this grocery store in quite some time, because the gym I used to go nearby has closed. It has turned into a disaster. There were no hand baskets, they were out of everything I came in for, and there was no one to check me out. All the checkout lane lights were dark. I plopped my armfull of groceries in the aisle and left. I have zero reason to come back here ever again. And thank goodness I didn't want Starbucks today, As they were not open. In the morning. On a weekday. I'm not sure when else people are supposed to get coffee. read more

I wanted something out of the bakery glass and no one was there at 8pm..(the store closes at 11pm) understandably i get that someone might not be there until close so I went to deli where there were people who told me that the bakery is closed and that no one can even get something out of the glass and that they don't want to "get in trouble." Sorry but that just sounds very ridiculous but thankfully took initiative I went to what I believe was a manager who instructed that same deli person to get the desert out from the glass. Please make it clear to employees at the store to at least try to help customers get an item instead of defaulting to "it can't be done" even when it's obvious. Additionally the terrible checkout system, plus a cashier who wasn't that aware, plus customer who is in a rush leads to missed items once I got home. The corporate team needs to have the checkout system completely redone and install at least 2 self checkout isles at least in that circumstance I could only blame myself but the cashier apparently didnt bag one of my items and I didn't say "hey you forgot this". read more

The only grocery store near my home is Safeway (as well as little Asian markets that sell rotting, questionable produce), so Harris Teeter was quite the treat for me. First of all, the produce selection was amazing. There were so many kinds of fruits and vegetables, many I've never heard of. They were all clearly labeled, and there were signs explaining all the different types of tomatoes, potatoes, melons, berries, etc. Yummy as well as educational! And there were also free samples! (The grapefruit was delicious.) Second of all, the prices. I'm from Canada, and I realize that with the exchange rate, the marked prices won't be as cheap when converted to Canadian currency, but they are still pretty good. We bought a ton of groceries, including quite a bit of fresh meat, and the bill was just over $100. Even with the exchange rate, that's significantly less than what all of it would cost in Canada. (In Canada, or at least Vancouver, we pay a ridiculous amount for groceries, phone plans, and housing.) Third, the staff were quite friendly and helpful. Fourth, there's a dining area on the upper floor where you can stop for a bite to eat or get your Starbucks fix. I stopped for a piece of pizza, and it was delicious. read more

I love me some Harris Teeter...just a tad more than Trader Joe's, and definitely more than Giant and Safeway. I find that this location is always fairly clean,has courteous, helpful staff, and is pretty well stocked no matter what hour you shop (open 24 hours!). The prices are pretty reasonable, especially with your VIC card (definitely get one if you don't have one already!). It's like a one stop shop, offering not only groceries, but also health/beauty items, flowers/cards, pet essentials, and home goods. When you come here, definitely make your way upstairs! Starbucks, baked goods, fresh sushi, pizza, a deli (with sandwiches, meats, cheeses), a hot bar, and a salad bar...need I say more?! I have gotten sushi, pizza, and sandwiches here...pretty good and you can't beat the price. Check out their daily specials while you are up here as well (M-16" pizza for $7.99, Su-rotisserie chiken for $4.99, and CA rolls are always $4.95 just to name a few). Their parking lot could be crowded at times, so check out their underground parking if needed. read more

This is my favorite grocery store for everything. (Trader Joe's wins for unique or specialty items.) I drive the 20 minutes to get here and it is well worth it, especially on double $2.00 coupon weeks. Or when they have their "Buy 2, Get THREE free" deal. I have enough shredded cheese to make quesadillas for a small country. It is never crowded when I shop here, and that includes the weekends. They have many lanes open, and I have never been behind more than two people. One thing though, sometimes prices ring up incorrectly (not in your favor). It is hard to notice if you buy a lot of cheese. :) However, the customer service folks are great about fixing the error and returning your money, usually with some sort of bonus money for your troubles. Even though its part of the work/live/play here development, I enjoy the double decker aspect of the market. Of course as a Vic member, I reap many benefits of my favorite items that's always on sale, so it seems. & no matter the reason of not being satisfied, it's hassle free to be accommodated. I'm eyeing some of the nice patio furniture HT is offering this season, they step the outside decor up a notch or two. The problem with this store is the don't have what I want in stock for months, I tried to buy unsweetened decaffeinated Iced Tea in Gallon Jugs and the never seemed to have it in stock. I'm only slightly familiar with Harris Teeter as we don't have them back home. But I've visited one before while traveling because I like finding Kroger owned chains. This location isn't really on my normal route, but since the move I've struggled to find a few things elsewhere and this place has certainly come in handy! Specifically for queso (the dip-able kind that is kept in the refrigerated section) and pints of Graeter's ice cream! They also seem to carry the large containers of half & half more reliably than other places. Lastly, they also carry pints of Jeni's ice cream. So this is definitely a place that I'll continue to visit. read more

I love shopping at this Harris Teeter store. One of the favorite items that I buy here regularly is the store brand seltzer water. The regular price is good but with it being on sale most of the summer the price was below $4 for a 12 pack. Plus it comes in a variety of tasty flavors! Another thing I like to buy here is Nate's 100% Raw & Unfiltered Honey. The 32 oz bottle has been on sale a few times this year. It has a regular price of almost $16. Honey is not the only sweet thing that I buy. I love the variety of ice cream that Harris Teeter sells especially the pint size cartons. They even have my hometown Cincinnati brand Graeter's ice cream. Our wonderful favorite flavors are mint chip, s'mores and black raspberry chip. Van Leeuwen pints are sold here too! The flavor and creaminess is almost as good as the Graeter's brand. The Harris Teeter Private Selection brand is also very good! These & and other brands are often on sale! My most recent find at Harris Teeter is the grain free original granola by Simple Truth. This is their store brand. It comes in a large 16 ounce package & it lasts me quite a long time. Just as important as these great items are shopping here would not be as enjoyable if it weren't for the store's friendly & helpful employees. You can find the manager John at the checkout lanes everyday helping to get customers out of the store quickly and with a smile on their face. This store continues to disappoint. No shopping carts inside or in the parking lot. Did someone steal them all! No self service check outs and the cashiers are all extremely slow. Maybe they need a field trip to Costco. Either way, get a new manager. read more

Harris Teeter was described to me as a somewhat upscale Southern family supermarket, and I guess I had high expectations. And this is a pretty solid supermarket, no doubt...but I don't see the big hype. It's large, and has everything a normal supermarket should have (and then some), but the produce section was not impressive at all. There were products, like apricots and broccoli rabe, which I couldn't even find. I also was looking forward to a high-quality prepared foods section but I was not super-impressed. The salad bar was pitiful. (It could have been the time of day that I went)--but everything was crusted over and on a whole, it looked very unappetizing. I ended up with some sushi, which was very good and fresh. Don't get me wrong--if I lived in the neighborhood, I would absolutely be happy to do my everyday shopping here, and it's definitely better ...and cheaper...than Safeway, but it's really no better than Giant; no worse, but no better. And the way that the registers are setup is completely bizarre. The customer doesn't unload his/her goods onto the counter. Instead, one pushes up one's cart to the cashier (on the other side of the checklane) and the cashier is required to bend over and pick up each item. I am not sure who the hell came up with this system, but in my few times shopping here, it proves very confusing to customers and even causes some fights between customers who think they are being cut in line. Note to Harris Teeter: You can keep this bizarre layout in the South! read more

This location is not as good as Bethesda. The hot bar has only a few Asian dishes, the Bethesda store hot bar is 1 side Asian the other traditional American such as sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, scallopped potatoes, baked chicken, chicken wings, etc. The bakery, deli, sushi, hiot bar, salad bar, and starbucks are on the 2nd level as are several tables. There are 2 elevators in the back to 2nd floor, but they are not near the entrance. They have a salad bar which Bethesda does not, so a point for them, but the lack of American hot selections is a ding. Both locations have hot pizza by the slice as well as premade sandwiches and sandwiches made to order. Neither store has salad in the deli counter, but they both have prepackaged salads, you just can't control the quantity. Apparently no Harris Teeters sell POM tea, only POM juice. Like in Bethesda and for no apparent reason, lil smokies hot dogs are in the butcher counter as opposed to with the regular hot dogs in the refrigerator. This is not intuitive and there are no signs indicating this so you need to be looking for it. The prepackaged hot chicken selection is better in Bethesda too--they have many packages of 2 quarters for $ 4.99, and basically none in Rockville when I was there. Lots of whole roast chickens though, $7.99 like the 8 piece packs., but basically nothing that is single serving. The Rockville store is at White Flint metro and in a large residential area, so convenient if you live nearby, but I think Bethesda is worth the extra trip down Rockville Pike. Bethesda is also walking distrance of Trader Joes, so kill 2 birds with 1 stone, Rocville is across the street from Pike and Rose, but Bethesda has more stores in walking distance without the super busy part of rockville pike. read more

I'm not quite sure what conditions other reviewers on Yelp are used to with their grocery stores, where parking lots apparently stretch as far as the eye can see, where grocery team members wait on individual shoppers hand and foot with grateful tears in their eyes, where a cornucopia of exotic, fresh fruit is piled in enticing stacks for everyone's perusal. Yessir, you might think this Harris Teeter is a veritable cesspit judging from some of the reactions by my fellow Yelpers. The truth is, this is as clean, well-lit, spacious, and extensive as any grocery store can be, with some extra amenities to boot. My wife and I have been shopping here for almost the entirety of our time in Rockville, owing both to our relative proximity and the multitude of coupon-oriented sales "The Teet" offers. There are tons of great deals every week throughout the store, and selections are extensive. I love the cheese selection (located upstairs by the deli and Starbucks) but there is lots to love at the Harris Teeter sitting at the start of Old Georgetown Road. As far as parking, there is street parking, a medium-sized above ground lot, and spaces underground. Don't succumb to negativity! read more

If you're a couponer, you HAVE to make "The Teet" your go-to grocery store! It makes me not dread grocery shopping and instead almost enjoy the experience. I still love Trader Joe's for some special items, but this is a great regular, everyday grocery store. Parking is effortless, getting a VIC store card is a breeze (though they should really consider changing the name of that) and if you have a baby under 12 months (I do not), you get a free birthday cake for them on their first birthday. How cool is that? Almost makes me want to have kids. The organic produce could be fresher and selection better, but other than that I really have no complaints. They sell some obscure products (see the Spotted Dick photo!), including ones that I haven't seen since I lived in Texas. I was able to walk right up to an available cashier--on a Saturday no less. The cashier in the lane next to the one I chose was also available, so she came over and helped him bag until a customer came to her line. Imagine that--coworkers helping each other voluntarily?? You'd never see that at Safeway or Giant. Prices (sans coupons) are reasonable as long as you use your VIC card, and they're on-par with the aforementioned stores, but I absolutely loved how easy it was to use the few coupons that I had, and they unexpectedly doubled them! I didn't explore the top floor because of the fact that you have to take your cart up in an elevator to do so, but I'll definitely see what it's all about next time. Terrible fresh produce. Zero stars. I always look carefully at the packs of berries and many times I've found mold in the punnets of fruit. Potatoes I've baked and served only to cut open to find bad inside. I keep giving them another chance as far as produce - as it's next to where I live and convenient, but never again. Dinner almost ready to serve and I open my box of salad leaves ( use by date still several days away ) to add to my other ingredients I'd prepared to find a slimy mess. Planned nice dinner was ruined, as pasta was ready and my fancy salad recipe was all prepared minus the leaves. Every time I get fresh produce something is bad. Ok for other things, basic grocery items, but I don't recommend the fresh produce at all.. read more

I don't imagine Harris Teeter having a hard time cleaning shop in this area. The competition (Giant and Safeway) can't touch this place with a 50 ft. pole because HT excels in about every area - cleanliness, selection, awesome cafe area, etc etc. The other retailers might have a slight advantage in terms of price when it comes to amount of sales they have each week, but I didn't notice that much of a margin of a difference. Some things that really stood out to me - Size - it's a very large place inside, the aisles are about 1.5 times the length of other large grocery chains in the area. More selection might not be good for those who like to compare each and every item in the section but its a godsend for those who need to find a specific brand. They even have a whole section for Kosher items. 24 Hours - enough said. I can't think of any in the area that are open past 12. Kick ass cafe - Beyond the typical starbucks and bakery, they've got a fully decked out deli/pizza/buffet area going on here. I happened to come by one morning and the buffet area had croissant-egg-sausage-cheese breakfast sandwiches, scrambled eggs, bacon, and much more. The mini sushi bar area had a wide variety, even going as far offering brown riced versions of popular rolls. Finally, the cupcakes here are something worth checking out. Each cupcake will set you back $4 but they're about 4 inches high and while I haven't tasted it, I got one(orange cashew) for a cupcake expert and she really loved it. Pharmacy is 5 stars+++!!!! Super friendly and efficient. Easy for both myself and my doctor's office to work with. Annie the pharmacist is awesome!! The HT grocery store is 2 stories with prepared foods, cheese, and bakery upstairs. I don't miss it! They also have a Starbucks on site. Everything I've gone here has been fresh. Only had an issue one time with the salmon I got here. I highly recommend it for the quality and variety of goods they have here! This is a one stop shop for me. read more

It never fails that when I go to this Harris Teeter the shelves are bare and whatever I went to purchase is nowhere to be found. I can understand big sale items running short during busy times on the weekend, but when an entire dairy case is completely stripped bare 2 or 3 visits in the same week, you start to wonder. Prices are steeper than nearby Giant and Safeway locations. No self check lanes, and frequently only one or two registers open at a time, meaning extremely long lines waiting to check out. This location is conveniently close to my house, so I'll likely keep stopping by from time to time, but I don't hesitate to leave empty handed if I can't get the items I specifically went for. read more

This Harris Teeter is really beginning to piss me off in that the parking lot is hard to get into from some directions, and there are no self-checkout lanes, and it runs slow because despite the many staff, most of the checkout lanes are usually unmanned. At least they had the decency to apologize for my latest inordinately long wait. Harris Teeter has taken the pain out of grocery shopping with this location. I actually don't mind the chore that I used to opt out of and force my wife to cover. The produce selection isn't the best, but it will do. Sometimes they just don't have really common items in stock like fresh corn in the summer. Everything is fresh and of a decent quality. They normally have a good buy-one-get-one-free deal on fruits and berries. The dry food selection beats every other grocery store in the area (including the new opened Whole Foods). They have a decent selection of international items which usually means I don't have to make a stop at the specialized stored (Indian, Greek, etc.). The meat and seafood selection is really quite good. All the cuts of meat I've gotten here are top grade and the butcher knows what he's doing. If you want anything that not on shelves, just ask. They've been happy to provide custom cuts for me. Upstairs they have a the "to go" foods, deli, bakery and a Starbucks. It's not a real Starbucks, so don't get your hopes up. It's a HMS Host and if you know what that is then you know it's just a Starbucks in name. Still this is one of the better HMS Host locations as the staff is friendly and knows how to make a drink. The pizzas are good but beware they is a serious wait for one (especially on Monday's when they are on sale). If you want to get a pizza either order ahead or order before you do your shopping (not after). The Chinese food is greasy (skip it) and the sushi is rarely fresh. It's currently mandated by law to wear facial masks covering mouth and nose while in markets and other public places. On my most recent trip, the majority of the employees here were either wearing a mask incorrectly (not covering nose) or not wearing one at all (had a mask down around their chin not covering mouth or nose). I found this really concerning and sent an email to suggest there be some training and guidance around mask wearing. Four days later I received a form email saying that all Harris Teeter employees were required to wear masks. I replied saying maybe you misunderstood, and reiterated my point about incorrect mask wearing and the possible need for training. They replied with literally the exact same form email. I've never found their customer service to be very good but now that it's clear they don't even respect public health, I won't be going back read more

The worst designed parking lot and the most rude customers possible. They park just in the middle of the driveway and parking lot as if they're the only person in the world. The store is decent but having to deal with stupid and rude customers turns me off to shopping there read more
