Only stopped in to check the bakery section. I was only there for maybe 5 minutes because I was looking for the strawberry pastry. Unfortunately they were sold out but I could tell the bakery section was fairly popular here. The rest of the store was lit fairly well and was very clean. The lines were not too long and shelves were organized. I didn't know there was a Food Lion here so I think it's great! I thought the closest one was Frederick so I'm glad there's one a bit closer! I had about 15 minutes to kill before I picked up my food at Bangkok Garden and decided to hop into Food Lion real quick for a couple of fresh... anything. Because of Covid19, we've been eating a lot of canned, dried, and frozen foods and I was really craving some fresh vegetables and fruit. So that's what I did. I went in and I went ham in the produce section. I literally grabbed veg after veg after veg until I zoomed down the back side of the store, picked up some ground me and zoomed to the front. Good thing I accidentally went down the ice cream aisle. I swear it wasn't on purpose! Ended up with some burbon truffle ice cream and some whiskey chocolate ice cream too from Haggan Daaz. The store seemed very clean, the store wasn't crowded ( for some reason this store never is), and the plexi glass in between you and cashier was a nice little added layer of security. The produce I ended up getting was really great actually. The broccoli is great quality, I got collard greens ( the bunches were huge), and I also got some clementines and grapefruit which were both sweet and tart. Solid quality on the veg. Definitely might quarantine shop here again. Solid choice. read more

I can't tell you how long I have lived here without visiting Food Lion. I assumed it was a discount grocery store with limited selections but boy was I wrong. Pod lion is just another chain grocery store that offers everything that Giant and Safeway offers. This location has a big parking lot. Although they share it with other businesses there's plenty of parking for customers. Once inside the store appears slightly dated. Prices seem inline with other stores in the area and I was able to get everything I needed for a last minute dinner plan. I didn't see anyone checking for a mask but everyone in the store was wearing one. I wouldn't shy away from the store but I probably won't visit often just because I'm use to Whole Foods and Giant. I have a perfectly fine experience here and you will too. read more

This is one of the nicest Food Lions I've been to - it's bright and cheery, items are well-organized and well-stocked, and the staff members seem to always be dressed with a smile! This NC-based grocery store has a deli, natural and organic items, a bakery, cheeses and other dairy items, seafood, meats, beer/wine section, frozen foods, household products, pet items, baby necessities, and an in-store pharmacy. Don't forget to check out their weekly specials for huge savings and discounts. The Lion found a way to go below their normal mediocre standards. Roma tomatoes were all rotten. Took a picture to show the store manager and she got the produce manager up to speak to us. He mentioned that there were now tomatoes in the back and hadn't brought them up yet. He brings the out in a cart to another part of the store where I was still shopping. He didn't bring a bag for me to put them in. His quote "I didn't think that all the way through!" My wife decided to jump in to tell him the produce is usually bad and asked if he was the manager. He said he was and made a series of excuses, such as bad refrigeration, store being renovated, not enough staff, etc. She said that those are not her problem and asked what he was going to do about it. He said "it's only going to get worse!" And the whooper was when he blamed us from keeping him from going back to his department to help other customers. Totally unbelievable. No apologies were offered, no plan to fix it, no refund was offered, just excuses. This place needs to get it together. Low prices equals low customer service and low quality. read more

I have been happy with this store until today. I purchased a prime rib roast, and opened it Christmas Day to cook for dinner. Under the roast, hidden from view, was a big chunk of fat. I went to get a RugDoctor to rent for a day. Food Lion could not find the key to unlock the machines. I was told that maybe "later". How could this be? Years later, this Food lion has greatly deteriorated. We tried the teriyaki chicken wings...and had to throw them out out because someone there decided to also douse them with hot sauce....Terikayi and tabasco??? YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They keep this place EXCEPTIONALLY cold..not sure why.. Like it is colder than any other grocery store I have ever been to..! Anyways, they are not very good about keeping the place well stocked. They run out of things and then they dont replace them for like a week or so. They carry the usual groceries and stuff. One other complaint - their fish/meat section is smellier than others.. ugh! read more

While I don't shop here for my regular groceries, this place is our office go-to for bakery birthday cakes. They're really good with cake decorations too, and the cakes are nice and fresh. Food Lion has something for everyone. Of course, I shop there for my healthy nut mix, but there are other outstanding departments I haven't mentioned. There is a huge selection of gluten free products. Shelves and shelves of cookies, cereals, snacks, and pastas. There are freezer cases full of gluten free meals and breads. The nicest thing is that it is cheaper than other grocery stores. So, if you are looking for a specific brand, check out Food Lion first. I get my frozen vegetables at a fraction of the price. Yes, I did just buy 5 bags of the asparagus. The seafood department is always full of fresh fish. I have bought shrimp, tilapia, and tuna. The manager is friendly and helpful. He tells me when the seafood arrived at the store and what looks good to buy for that week. So, if you want to save money to try a new restaurant on Yelp, visit Food Lion first! read more

Food Lion is awesome for low prices and a diverse selection of foods. They have a huge parking lot and are stocked with about everything aside from beer and wine. Every item seems to have a great amount of brands. The layout channels the customer towards the self check-out aisles and the employees are on standby to help if you cannot figure them out. They're very helpful, but I personally, don't like the idea of the self check-out. What's the point? So that the grocers can spend money on technology that alienates their customers and pay their employees less? The Food Lion workers are very nice and I like interacting with them. There's one gentleman that always helps with the self check-out area and seems to take his role very seriously. He helps customers immediately if the have a concern. read more

I tried Food Lion for the first time this weekend. Pros: Clean, spacious, well-organized, decent prices, not very crowded Cons: Missing a few of my household staples (Goya olives and chopped garlic, Libby's pre-portioned veggie cups). The biggest con (and most confusing), is that you can't take your shopping cart to your car. I came to the store alone and am 7 months pregnant. After dropping $130 I walked out to find that they don't allow carts in the parking lot. Instead, I had to leave my cart full of groceries on the curb, go get my car and load it in by the front of the store. The bagger said it's because they've had problems with people not bringing them back, but I can't believe you could potentially spend hundreds worth of groceries at that store and then have to leave your cart unattended to drive your car up. After shopping at various places in Bethesda and experiencing massive sticker shock, I set out to find a cheap(er) grocery store in the area (hey, I'm a grad student). After an appointment nearby, I noticed the Food Lion and decided to try it out. Since then, I've been coming here to grocery shop. The parking lot by the Food Lion is never too crazy, and I can always find a spot fairly close (which is good, cause they don't let you take the carts into the parking lot). The store is clean, and the few times I've asked random employees questions, they've been really helpful (one even escorted me to the almond milk from the other side of the store). I tend to go during the day during the week or weekend, and it's never busy. You need an "MVP card" to get discounts, but the application was quick and easy (they grabbed a new card, scanned it, and let me bring the application back with me the next time). The prices on food, especially with the MVP card, are very reasonable, and I haven't found a cheaper store in the area. Product selection doesn't feel massive, but I always find everything I want. Overall, a good choice for grocery shopping in the area! read more

I love this location and miss it so much! I lived off Rockville Pike for 18 years and this was my home store. I saw this store go through many changes from Food Lion to Bloom then to Food Lion again. I now live in Germantown but I still take the commute back down to do my grocery shopping because the staff here are so warm and friendly and they have become accustomed to our faces over the years (wife, child and I.) Color me surprised! It's a fairly decent, clean, and well stocked grocery store in Wintergreen Plaza. For some reason, I thought this was a creepy Food Lion, but I had to run in today during lunch to pick up some cakes for dinner tonight (yeah, definitely a little grumbly about that...was *so* not prepared to have people over. UGH) and the niceness of this store definitely improved my mood. Small but well stocked cake section with nice "gourmet" cakes (and not just the plain flat sheet cakes - although they have them too) with a nice gourmet over priced cheese selection as well. Remember Food Lion? The place where butchers used bleach to cover up the funk of nasty old meat before they sold it to unsuspecting customers? Yeah, I do, which is why I never stepped foot into the place. Until they decided to shed that negative exoskeleton and blossom into a newer style grocery store, appropriately called "Bloom." Like most newer stores today, Bloom has really nice wide aisles, soft lighting, and organic everything. Its one of those stores that's so easy to blow your shopping budget in, because it all looks so good. And I have no fears about the meat counter, especially after one of the butchers let me back there to pick my own steaks! No bleach in sight :) read more

I have been shopping at BLOOM since May of this year. I have to say that I really like this supermarket. Their house products are really good and I love their deals 2 for 1 etc.... I spend over $120 weekly but as soon as you scan your BLOOM card I end up paying $85 how cool is that? Their scanning thingies don't work well. I like that you can roll in your cart and have a wet wipe to clean it. Also has REDBOX where rarely rent something, but conveninent still. Check out their wings on Monday they are on special and they are preety good. NOW...their promotion "happy points" to trade for Cuisinart products...I am eyeing that Cuisinart paninni maker...FOR FREEE with 120 happy points.... Extremely poor service. I come in here from time to time since it's right next to my gym. Usually, I'll buy1- 2 12/24packs of water due to the low price and convenience. Unfortunately, I wish the employees were half as good as their sales are. Tonight I was on a candy haul for a friend at the gym. I enjoy being the CandyMann and bringing joy in the simplest of ways. I found some candy in their incredibly small section, I went to the register and waited in express line number 9. I waited and waited as the cashier was chatting with the cashier from express line number 10. He'd glance over, look at me and my 3 items.. Then turn back to his conversation. I get the idea that he probably doesn't want to be at work nor work right now. I gave it another 2 minutes of being ignored before going to the next open register. I get to the next register where a lady was helping a customer.. Then walked over to the cigarette counter just to have a conversation, now I'm at my 2nd counter... Waiting. Ended up saying screw it, went to self-checkout and left. As I peered back in I could see cashier number 9 looking off upset as register number 10 had to actually assist a customer. It's simple, ask someone where something is or wait in a line to be assisted, that's it. I'm not asking anyone to reach for a product or get something from the back. If you don't want to help people.. Simple, find a new line of work or.. I just won't be giving you my business. Consider it a lesson I just learnt. When shopping at food lion, get in and out and never ask for assistance, you won't get it.. If you do you'll either be lucky or get it with an attitude. read more

I've been shopping at this particular location for years. They lose one cool point because they cannot make minds as to what they want the name of this grocery store to be. In the past two years it has been Food Lion and Bloom ... now it is Food Lion again. The prices are very reasonable and this is one of the cleanest Food Lion's that I have been in. The employees are always nice and helpful. They have a nice selection of items to choose from. Remember to bring your bags. God cursed me with the absolute worst allergies in the world, inherited from parents who in turn suffered. During spring I can go through one box of tissues per week easily. God blessed me with Bloom, though he seemingly mocks me with the store's namesake. I shop at Bloom solely for the store's brand tissue paper, which I found to have the lowest lint content of any of its competitors. I even make a special trip to Rockville every couple of months although I actually live in Silver Spring. So if you happen to be in the store one day and notice the shelf cleared of Bloom tissue paper, then look for the guy with a cartload full of tissues; that would be me. (5 Stars is for the Bloom brand tissue paper, which is actually the same lint-free Food Lion brand tissue only now with the new Bloom logo.) read more

This is a Food Lion? I still remember when I lived in South Florida and FL tried to invade the area. In my case, right across from a Publix and beyond finding a few Carolina based items noone else carried, there was no reason to shop there. It was ugly and dingy and Publix killed them. So if you can't beat 'em? This place is a lot like Publix or Whole Foods. It's much nicer than Ralphs Fresh Fare here in my homebase of LA with great design and lots of touchscreens to easily find stuff. Bakery looks awesome with the Peanut Butter Rave cake and all those brownies. I'm pumped about that. There is an organic section but it's pretty small. I'm really amazed Food Lion went ahead and converted all their store brand items to the Bloom branding. I'd just figure they'd keep the FL name like Kroger does with most of the Ralph's store items and Safeway does with Vons. Not the case at all. I'm really impressed and this'll be one of the first places I invade next time I'm in DC. While everyone keeps talking about Wegman's it's still way too far from Rockville and Montgomery County won't let them build here due to zoning laws. Did not have any lactose-free products that I could find. I went on a Sunday, close to 7PM. The deli was already closed down. It was somewhat hard to find help. I saw very little in the way of single or two-portion sizes of pre-cooked healthy protein. It would have been better if I could have found a healthy, non-fish, non-dairy protein source that was cooked--besides the 9 oz. container of nuts. Safeway, Giant, and Wegmans have much greater variety, and there are more employees around at 7 PM to assist customers than at Food Lion. I will have to be truly desperate to shop at this store again. read more

Well, I suppose if you've been to one grocery, you've been to then all. Wide, well lit spaces, lots of produce, a bakery, and most recently, a redesigned home goods section. This location also has lots of very good deals and coupon sales which my wife and I take advantage of. The only downside to this location is that you can't really take the carts out of the store. There are no cart catchers in the parking lot and you have to either bring your car around or carry everything. Besides that, this is a clean and great example of a Food Lion location. Would rate prices, overall, 4 stars. There are some items that are certainly better priced elsewhere, but the sales are what would bring me to this store. Customer service, on the other hand, is poor at best, and down right rude and uncivil at worst. It is like you are an inconvenience for these folks, which is not understandable since customer purchases are what keep doors open. For a better customer experience, perhaps eliminate workers except when needed for stocking and make the store self service; that is pretty much what it is as it stands, anyway. Also, be prepared to not be able to push a cart to your vehicle. This certainly creates a barrier to shopping and the ability to make larger purchases. read more

holy overrated. the produce, at least the stuff i was looking at, wasnt very fresh. first i was looking for rainbow swiss chard... ok, they dont carry that. how about regular swiss chard? yea they have it, but the leaves were wilted and slimy.. definitely not good. now i need mushrooms... let's see, they only have the usual suspects: button, portobello, shitake, trumpit. meh. how about baby bell peppers? nope. they dont carry sriracha sauce, and the meat selection looked very average. i wont be going back. read more

I've been a customer at this location for 12 years and I've always been very satisfied with the service I've received. But tonight the service was absolutely horrific. Over 100 customers in the store and only two cashier. Lots of self service machines and when I tried to use one, it broke down on me. The two front end supervisors were USELESS, standing to the side with their hands in their pockets. I tried speaking to the male supervisor and he was speechless, basically no response and NO HELP. The earphones that the employees are wearing are a total distraction and give the impression that they're not focusing on the customer, but on what's being transmitted, whatever that is. It's almost like no one cared, no sense of urgency, BAD customer relations. read more
