This is one of those hidden surprises that gets you excited! Their menu is a fusion of Balkan and Mediterranean cuisines. I felt like I was sent back to time in Mostar! I ordered the Balkan burger & the soman grilled chicken sandwich. The Balkan burger was just ok in my opinion, I like the side of salad with the sauce you can add to elevate the flavor. MezeHub is honestly the best Balkan spot I've been to in the DMV. Although it's a little on the pricier side, everything I tried was fresh, flavorful, and came out piping hot. Ćevapčići (5/5) - Juicy grilled beef sausages and onions on toasty somun bread, served with kajmak (clotted cream) and ajvar (roasted pepper spread). I can't believe I've never tried kajmak before... it was so whipped, fatty, and just delicious in the sandwich -- like a warm mix of ricotta and butter. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the creamy kajmak with the smoky ajvar tied everything together beautifully. Bosnian pide (4/5) - Resembled a pizza but with a thinner dough base. I loved the sudzuk sausage -- smoky, spiced, and so satisfying. It had just the right amount of sauciness and cheesiness, and it wasn't oily at all. Beef + potato burek (4/5) - Super thin layers of phyllo dough wrapped around a generous, hearty filling. It reminded me of spanakopita, but meatier and just as comforting. The food tastes so fresh and homemade, and you can tell they really care about quality. The service was also great, the staff walked me through the menu and answered all my questions. I was so curious about the different Balkan dishes and their processes, and they were so patient and helpful. Their mushroom bureks are to die for, as is their Dubai chocolate dessert. We've literally had everything they serve and always have at least 2 meals in the few short days we're here to visit. Yes, I've been making a lot of trips to Rockville (Maryland) lately... and, while there, I'm making a lot of wonderful food discoveries! Today's find was a Balkan grocery called MezeHub, with a case full of hot house-made Bureks (meat or vegetable-stuffed pastries). The menu offers a host of other Balkan delights such as Ćevapi (house-made sausage), Pide (canoe-shaped flatbreads with various fillings... tasted and loved them in Istanbul), flatbreads, salads, and sandwiches. Today I got four Bureks: Beef, Beef & Potato, Mushroom, and Spinach-and-Cheese. At about $8 each, they're good value for made-from-scratch foods with quality ingredients. Delicious Balkan food with a small grocery attached on the side - it's 2 experiences in 1! Recently came here in the early afternoon when I was super hungry and got the beef burek to go - it was hot and delicious and packed with spiced ground meat. The sorum was so good too - but if I'd been thinking I would have gotten some of the spicy red pepper spread from the grocery to go with it. I've had the Balkan burger in the past as well - to die for. Groceries include frozen, fresh, and shelf-stable food as well as some household goods. Lots of European goodies to browse. Their payment terminals had some issues as one of them couldn't process my credit card nor even the cash I had. The food was amazing. Initially I thought my borek would be cold only to realize after my first bite that the borek was warm and there was a warmer underneath the tray where the borek was kept inside the display case. There is ample seating to sit and there is even a comfortable sofa section as well. There is great music in the background that almost me fall asleep while relaxing there on a afternoon. I love this place! I always feel so good when I get there. I find it warm, homey, with nice, friendly people -- everyone who works there is so nice! -- and great food in a really comfortable, clean, airy, breezy, open, spacious atmosphere with culturally cool decorations .... In the very few minutes it takes to get my eat-in meal order delivered to my table, I like to go shopping and stock up on snacks and all kinds of goodies, such as chocolate-covered bananas (I got three different kinds today!) and things I can't find anywhere else including horseradish in a metal squeeze-tube, plain-ish (salted, though) corn puffs, potato chips -- okay, yeah, these are things you can get somewhere else, you could say, if you want lots of preservatives and other unhealthy additives, sure, but these are different and better for you! It was a plentiful amount for two people who were not too hungry -- not to mention, every bite was super-soothing, and the decor put me in a really good mood, as did the deliverer of this delight! I also got a Turkish coffee -- I'm always so grateful when I can find that -- and had a nice discussion with the deliverer about various sugar-cube eating or drinking methods .... It was all delicious! (I've been here multiple times, and it always is!) First off, let me say the market is VERY tidy. They did seem to be having a little bit of a fruit fly/fungus gnat issue that I'm CERTAIN they're trying to get sorted out, because the whole place is VERY clean. The market has a really nice selection of Middle Eastern and European foods. -I ended up buying a couple of jarred spreads (a pumpkin seed one and a apricot and ginger one. I have yet to open those, so I'll report back soon enough). -Also bought these peanut puffs called smoki's which were on sale and when I opened the small bag... I CRUSHED it immediately. They were so good, I can't wait to go back and get more. -I also picked up some jaffa cakes which I've heard spoken about on the Great British Bake off numerous times, and really wanted to try them. They were delicious and I'm glad i picked them up. The food we ordered: Spinach and cheese burek: This was a bit salty for both mine and my friend's taste. Also, the dough just didn't have that flaky crunchy texture that you want in a burek. Unfortunately, we were less then thrilled with this one. Also, it was bit luke warm. I think that throwing it in an airfryer for a little bit could have improved it significantly. The classic lahmahjun: This is a flatbread that is covered in a savory meat spread with pickled onions, sumac and tahini. The flavors were on point... but ... the temp was also a bit off. The savory meat spread was not as warm as I would have hoped. I think it's because the flatbread it was on was so thin that the bread must have cooked so quick that it didn't give a chance for the meat spread to heat up. I'm telling you though, the flavors are REALLY good. But this reminds me of something I've had at Z&Z Manouche, and I'd honestly prefer the one at Z&Z if I was ordering something similar. Cevapcici sandwich: This is a pita like bread filled with turkish sausage, cheese, and onion. First off... we might have messed this up a little bit. There was a red spread on the side that both me and my friend thought was hot sauce. So we both avoided it. After going through the market... we think it was this red pepper paste that's seasoned with paprika... and probably wasn't spicy. But all in all I think this sandwich was missing a bit of acid. Even though it had the onions, squeezing a little lemon on helped. But it just felt a bit unbalanced... or like it was missing something. As I said... this could completely be our fault and it really needed the red spread... but that was my impression without it. All in all, I'd be down to try other things at the restaurant. The gentleman who was there that was helping us was literally SO SO nice. He was one of those people who can strike up a conversation with anyone, and he was just as friendly as can be. I will definitely be back for the market portion, and maybe I'd try some more stuff from the restaurant. Maybe it was just a little bit of an off day. But this was my initial impression. read more

I normally don't like sausage, but I really enjoyed the one here. The pistachio cake was silky and not overly sweet. The Turkish coffee came with a cube of sugar and a small chocolate-peanut cookie. The cake and coffee together were under $10, and the rest of the meal was around $55. The owner was super friendly and personally brought the food to our table. Parking is easy. Long tables for groups, small tables for 4, but my 2 favorite setups were the lounge and the picnic table! There is only one of each! Lovely! You have to go place your order yourself at the counter but they will bring the food at your table! The food is beyond description! AUTHENTIC Bosnian food!! They have amazing fresh Boreks being made in front of you! ( The kitchen is in the middle and surrounded with glass, so you can see!). Cheese, spinach, and beef! Flaky , juicy, and delicious! Also comes with a side of shredded cabbage and delicious pickle, hot pepper, and a side of the delicious Ajvar spread ( Ayvar) Now let's talk Lahmaçun/Lahmajun ! If you think you know what Lahmajun is, then please wait until you visit MezeHub because you will be reintroduced to the Lahmajun, and it will be redefined ! It's just baked like I've never seen before! So delicious and perfectly baked, the meat topping was generous, and the new trick was the tahini sauce on top! Really? Tahini? Who is the brave genius behind this delicious idea!! Wow Also, they do have other twists on the Lahmajun like Shawarmajun , Babajun, and Vegajun ! All are made from their ideas! They have a bar, but they didn't have seats around it, so I guessed it was closed, but it looks nice, and they do have wine. The customer service was very, very nice, and they have the patience to explain and recommend stuff for you! I was too full when I started touring the market taking photos, but I can tell you that's every possible Balkan item you can imagine! You drop off your child at Healthy Baller and decide to look for a place with free Wi-Fi nearby so you can do a little work while you wait. Just around the corner is this charming gem of a restaurant with delicious Balkan and Mediterranean food. (Also why did it not come up when I searched WiFi? They do have it, and it works well!) And you can also shop for unique European finds on the side that's a market. Oh and did I mention they have wine? Plus you'll get the most amazing service along with the delicious food. A half-cafe and half-market that sells Balkan goods. The grocery section has imported canned goods, sweets, wine and various breads from Eastern Europe. The cafe section sells pides, lahmajuns, bureks and sandwiches. Everything appeared fresh-made to order. The vegajun was very good. It's a vegan Turkish style pizza on freshly baked flatbread. The bread itself had a good crust and was soft on the inside. The toppings included eggplant, green pepper spread, mushrooms, red peppers and onions. Everything was very fresh, the eggplant spread base had a nice smoky flavor. The sumac and pepper sauce also added depth. Beautiful inside and it smelled wonderful. Got the Sopska salad $11 Not a bad taste, too many onions. Also had beef kabobs. $20 The bread was great, the beef tasted processed. The side salad was yummy the dip was not for us. It gets great ratings but our taste buds didn't line up. For paying $33 we were not impressed, still I hope they continue. Great spot; would not have imagined this used to be an auto shop prior! Walk in and grab a burek, and then look past the register and see someone actually making the bureks in house! Tons of European goodies refrigerated and dry goods on one side of the store with ample sitting area and more tables for dining in on the other. Service was warm and she was happy to answer any questions. Seemed like there was a bar on the other side but I didn't get a chance to look too closely! Will have to check again as I'd love to grab a drink on one of their cozy looked couches. Amazing!! I never write reviews, and this place deserves a good word. I've had the pides and they are freshly made, so delicious, and so generous in their portions and quality of the ingredients. This is a GREAT local bistro/bakery/grocery! During two visits (so far), we observed the entire store is neat and clean as can be; and the staff unfailingly friendly and helpful. I'll discuss each part of the store a bit here: On the bistro side, there's a lounge with comfy chairs and wi-fi; a small bar area for tastings; and a restaurant seating area to munch on the hot food you order at the counter. Nespresso is available, as is baclava and other appropriate sweets, or you could enjoy a glass of beer or wine. The decor is mellow and there's plenty of space. The food is regional (Balkan) European, very comfort-y. Our favorite was the beef burek, which was a nice ratio of filling to pastry. Note that all plates are paper and the flatware is compostable--high marks. The bakery area is enclosed in glass so you can see the operations, which is pretty cool, especially as the entire area is, as noted, super-clean. During a recent visit, the front counter was reloaded twice with hot, fresh breads. Certainly worth a trip. Finally, the grocery features eastern European foods, condiments, a small selection of imported beer and a larger one of wine. There's staples like pasta and oils, and luxuries like salumi and olives. This is a great place to do some exploring, as well as to strategically purchase those staples. For example, a delicious Cretan olive oil costs about 1/3 what you'll pay at some of the other grocery stores nearby. You can also buy good Czech imported beer for under $4/500 ml. MezeHub is a little local spot that's a shining example of neighborhood food and drink done right. If you're in the area, you need to check it out; and if you're not, it's really worth the trip for a snack or some lunch, plus your shopping. I just randomly drove past this place and decided to look it up online. The reviews are accurate, it's nicely decorated inside and is half restaurant, half grocery store. The food was really good.
