I wish Columbus had more bed and breakfast inns, especially in German Village, Victorian Village and the Short North. It would make for great strolling and B&B's would only lend to the charm of these gentrified neighborhoods. The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place. read more

Tucked in the heart of Victorian Village, there stands a house on Harrison, aptly named the Harrison House. A historical landmark, this magical Bed and Breakfast has everything a vacationer or staycationer could desire: 24 hour access, hot breakfast, a gracious and attentive host, and delightfully appointed rooms where a couple can escape the everyday hustle and bustle. I chose Harrison House for the weekend of my wedding, the site where my wedding party, family and friends could gather to celebrate and prepare for my husband and I's big day. The morning started with a scrumptious breakfast of fresh fruit, granola and yogurt and deliciously warm coffee, honeyed acorn squash, pancakes and bacon. Upon completing this feast, my wedding party and I partook in a little complimentary sherry and conversation in the formal parlor before heading on a walk through the streets and parks of Victorian Village to North Market. Later in the afternoon, the champagne and mimosas began to flow as the wedding party came together to ready ourselves for the photos and ceremony ahead. Lynn was great as she brought out champagne glasses to accommodate our flowing libations and cleaned and cleared everything so that we could focus on enjoying one another's company and sharing in the laughter and joy of the day. I cannot express what wonderful place this was for my husband, me and eight of of our closest friends to stay on the eve and night of our wedding. In our minds, Harrison House will always be an integral and beautiful part of the day that we said "I do." Harrison West is a community of parks, old Victorian homes and new apartments and condos. Like the Victorian Village, so often I wonder whether the people would randomly open their homes up so I could see what they do with the old Victorian homes on the inside. Harrison House Bed and Breakfast is one of those old Victorian homes in the community and is a member of the Short North Business Association and on the National Register of Historic Places, constructed around 1890. It is a pretty house, outlined in teal and light purple with gingerbread woodwork on the porch, on peaks and arches. Inside, the furniture and décor may not be the original, but appropriate for the era of the house. Most of the furniture is antique. The style is classical Victorian, but still cozy enough to make you feel at home. Lynn Varney, the caretaker, always has complementary goodies for her guests. When I dropped by for a visit and tour, she had some scrumptious looking brownies just waiting for someone to eat them. If the baked goodies weren't enough, there are candy dishes everywhere filled with Hershey kisses and mints. The fridge is always stacked with snacks and beverages, including beer and wine. As the name implies, in the mornings Lynn prepares a full breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, tea and a gourmet entrée of eggs and bacon, quiche, French toast or anything else. Other meals the guests are on their own, and the guests come and go as they please. Besides the pretty furniture, warm hospitality and good eats, there are some ghoulish secrets about the place. For those who are into the paranormal, this may be a place of interest for you. Apparently there are resident spirits of people who lived in the Harrison House so long ago. My camera decided it didn't want to work and so I couldn't take pictures of my own of the interior of the house. I thought it was the battery getting low. Or was it? A funny story involves a picture on the wall in the living room. Everyone always thought it was of a woman in the Victorian era. She appeared to be very unhappy, rather scowling. Then one day the picture "spoke" to one of the guests and told them it was actually of a man. Sure enough, they took a closer look at the clothing that they thought was feminine and it actually turned out to be masculine. Now the person in the picture looks much happier. So, come to stay at the Harrison House and enjoy good company and hospitality. Relax in the comfy couches and chairs. Fluff up your pillows and snuggle under the blankets. Wifey got Lindsey Stirling tickets for her birthday (from me of course) so I took to Yelp and found this place to stay. Or it found me. Harrison House is just over a mile from Huntington Park and LC Pavilion. At $129 any bed and breakfast is a bargain. Especially considering the hotel options in this area start at that price. The house is beautiful both inside and out. We stayed in room #1 on the second floor. With the windows facing a fairly busy street, we wondered if street noise would be an issue, and thankfully it was not! There is free wifi, and Lynn (owner, wonderful old soul of a woman) provides a full-size refrigerator and freezer for guests with the top two shelves containing free wine and such that she provides for visitors. There is also a microwave available and lots of assorted teas. Google says this place is haunted, and wifey and I can verify that. I saw a manifestation in our room of a small child and the child knocked on the door when asked if it was really there. Wifey experienced many manifestations. All the ghosts we encountered were happy ones. Smoking is outside only for those that do. We will definitely return here as often as possible, even if nothing else than to see Lynn! read more

A great location, a couple of blocks off to High Street. The owner is very nice, and makes a mean breakfast. The bed was comfortable (wife's a light sleep and she thought so). The entire place looks a little care-worn, as if its best days were 5 years ago. That said, it's very homey. There is free wifi and FREE wine!! It's the $8-$10/ bottle wine from Trader Joes (literally), great stuff!! We paid $129 flat (includes all the taxes) in January '12. I would definitely stay here again. read more

My wife and I were looking for a nice get away in Columbus close to German Village and the historic districts. We wanted to stay in a Bed and Breakfast vs. a hotel outside of town. Well we are glad we found Lynn and her Harrison House B&B. Easy access from the highway as well as convenient parking made locating it and checking in easy. The home is beautiful. We stayed in room 1 which was spacious, clean and comfortable. It was a warm evening in November so we went for a walk after dark in the neighborhood to see the architecture and felt very safe as we walked down the neighboring streets. In the morning we had an amazing breakfast and great coffee served by Lynn, the ultimate hostess. Great conversation around the breakfast table with Lynn and the other guests completed the positive experience. We will tell our friends about our experience and would love to come back for another visit soon, and the next time possibly bringing friends or family with us. Blown away. Let's start with this, we arrived on marriage equality day (26 June 2015) and a rainbow flag was on the door. Not gay, but that's awesome. Lynn is the host you want to run a B&B. The whole place is immaculate. Cleaned perfectly and decorated exactly as you might want a B&B to look. Breakfast was delicious, fresh, and served with coffee, tea, oj and water. The conversation kept us at breakfast longer than planned because Lynn and the guests were just so much fun to chat with. We usually stay with friends when we come to Columbus...not any more. I don't know what was better, the gourmet breakfast, the beautiful house, or the fabulous host. Breakfast was took place in a formal dining table and was different each day. We had homemade yogurt, fresh fruit, pancakes, bacon, frittatas during our stay. My favorite were the pancakes because she added just a touch of yogurt to the pancake batter to make them nice and fluffy. The house was built in 1891 and has all the character that you would expect from a Victorian mansion. It's history is well documented and the owner Lynn can tell you more. I stayed in room 3, which was likely the smallest, but in my opinion the best decorated. The parlor was perfect for hanging out in and drinking sherry, while sitting on a rocking chair. What an experience! The owner and host is Lynn. This woman is detail oriented and knows all the happening places in Columbus, Ohio. Expecting our trip to be dull, we came in with low expectations. This is a comfortable, very very clean hideaway full of charm and elegance. We loved the accommodating owner, who totally understood all the weird needs of two fencers about to compete at a ridiculous hour of the morning. She fixed us a great breakfast (love those scrambled eggs!) on our first day of competition, despite it being way before breakfast was officially served. The other days she made the kitchen very accommodating, with coffee, tea, and some additional items in the fridge. It was quiet and on such a pretty street. I particularly loved the eclectic decor, with fascinating antiques. We would definitely go back there for our next Columbus fencing tournament. read more

We were going to Columbus to visit with my son's family and get reacquainted with our grandchild but where to stay. We had done the fancy hotel and were torn between renting a furnished condo or staying at a B&B. We opted for the B&B and couldn't be happier about our choice: Harrison House in the Victorian Village section of Columbus. Our room was very comfortable and very neat. But the best was Lynn and the other guests. Lynn is like a relative of whom you are very fond but because of time and distance you never get to see. Her breakfasts always include fresh fruit but then vary from bacon and eggs (to order) or a frittata or coffee cake or yogurt or even cereal for those who thrive on those boxed flakes. And of course there is juice and plenty of coffee for caffeine cravers like myself. But best is lingering after breakfast and just sitting about and talking with Lynn. As it cools for the night you will find her and other guests on the front porch with either a glass of wine or bottle of beer just trading stories of the day's events and places or restaurants discovered. Your needs are anticipated and fresh towels always appear in you room without asking but you always could ask if you really needed to. Basically staying at Harrison House is like staying at your own home if it were run with hospitality and warmth and humor. As we were there for a week we got to meet her dogs, which are the sweetest animals, but you won't know they are there as they stay in Lynn's apartment as she lives on site. A delightful afternoon tea at this charming victorian tea room as the bridal shower for my daughter. The tea room is very inviting with lovely decor. The table had the feel of a victorian tea with special tea cups and beautiful table settings! Our host was super attentive to our needs and cooked and baked up some amazing treats to go along with a large selection of teas. I highly recommend this place for any ladies' get together. I have been coming to the Harrison House for about 5 years now. I have never thought about staying anywhere else! Lynn is an amazing hostess. Not only is her food the best breakfast in town, but her restaurant/shopping/general Columbus knowledge is superb! It is a delight to spend a weekend in a true home away from home. I always enjoy meeting the other guests and enjoying all of the culture Columbus has to offer. The only room I have not slept in is room #1. All of the rooms have comfortable beds, luxurious linens, heavenly pillows and squeaky clean bathrooms. I especially love the bathroom in room #6 with all of the windows and the glass blocks! Stayed at Harrison House on a Saturday night in July. We were the only guests. We never saw Lynne until we were checking out Sunday. What we did see was a dining room table still full of dirty dishes, napkins and pitchers of Orange Juice. It was after 3:00 p.m.!!! The OJ had been sitting out all day. Both sides of the sink were full of dirty dishes. The counters were covered. The frying pan used for breakfast was still dirty, sitting on the stove top. The rooms we passed on our way to our room still had not been touched. Based upon reviews we expected special touches and a welcoming host. Epic fail on all fronts. The special cookies waiting for guests in the entryway were blue store bought cookies still in the plastic container. I think they were for guests, but with the clutter that was everywhere, I honestly don't know. Based upon the filth in the kitchen we were afraid to eat breakfast there. I really don't think it would have passed a board of health inspection. I know this review is harsh, but I really am baffled at all of the glowing reviews. We debated leaving several times, but I thought we would still be charged and we couldn't afford to pay for another hotel. I am glad others had better experiences, but I will never be back. My gosh, when we finally met Lynne she never asked us how our stay was or even if we would like a cup of coffee. She just asked for our credit card. It was almost surreal. read more

With lots going on at my own house, I decided to "run away" for the night. Harrison House B&B isn't far from my own house, so it was an easy choice. Lynn is an awesome host! She welcomes her guests as you would a friend to your home. Let me tell you about this place. This review is long overdue. We ended up here Valentine's Day weekend 2012. My girlfriend had a conference in Columbus and I was not looking forward to the trip. She likes to stay in B&Bs and so she ended up finding this one. I had some studying to do and planned on hiding myself away in my room the whole time. Well, I hardly got around to it. Lynn, the owner, was such an ease and delight to talk to, I found myself chatting with her for hours. She is a great listener! I felt so comfortable talking to her. I left there feeling renewed and like a different person. We stayed in room 3 and I really liked the bathroom in it. Lynn made delicious breakfasts all three mornings. She really makes you feel as though you are at home. Not to mention this place is really close to High St. which seemed to be the happening spot in Columbus. It was a short drive to downtown and just overall great experience. Should I find myself in Columbus again, I know I will be looking Lynn up for a great place to stay. read more
