Harrison is one a kind and a total pro - and in my estimation one of the the most talented photographers in Phoenix. We have had the pleasure of working with Harrison for some of our family's biggest "life" events (both our daughter's Bat Mitzvahs), and the quality of Harrison's work had a depth and richness that made the photos canvasses of his creativity. If you are "shopping" for photographers as you read this review and others, keep in mind that there are massive differences in the quality of what you will receive. Seeing the world through the lens of a camera and capturing the highlights of an event is a gift. Capturing the essence and the soul of a subject in a photo means connecting with the subject - and this is where photographer Harrison Hurwitz quite literally leaves his competition in the rear view mirror. His pricing was fair and he has always offered our family a variety of options (including digital rights to the photos) which was always helpful The difference here is that Harrison truly CARES. His passion for his art AND his heart are intertwined in his stunning work - and collaboratively he will take photos of your special occasion that look like they could have been lifted from the pages of Vogue or Vanity Fair and I do not exaggerate. He knows the best destinations in Phoenix to capture photos, and the proofs will make you smile from ear to ear when you see them. The one 3 star YELP whiner who inaccurately characterized Harrison's "patience running thin with kids" was just not accurate. My own kids were both 13 years old when we worked with him for the Bat Mitzvahs, and they each had over 70 young friends at the events. Both of my teen girls adore Harrison and consider him to now be an extended member of the family. Harrison always came off as the consummate professional & a caring human being right from the initial consultations all the way through to the end, He always exhibited a desire to listen to our ideas and worked closely with our family. Over the 5+ years we have partnered with him on multiple projects we have always been amazed at the passion and stunning quality of his photos (my eldest Daughter a few weeks ago INSISTED that Harrison and ONLY Harrison shoot her High School senior photos! As a lifelong photographer myself, I know that just because someone owns a high end camera or says they are skilful, does not necessarily mean they are talented. It seems these days everyone owns these higher end digital cameras, and yet the reality is that the majority of them don't have the decades of experience or background in film photography that is deeply ingrained in Harrison Hurwitz's DNA. Harrison Hurwitz will deftly capture those one in 1/1000 moments like nobody's business. The results you will get with Harrison will be like night and day and they will be gorgeous. Lets face it - in this town "photographers" are generally a dime a dozen and even Craigslist boasts reams of listings for those promising inexpensive but quality photos for your event. The sad reality is that if you hire the wrong photographer, you won't know it until your event is long over and it is too late to recapture precious moments in time that have passed. If you are seeking the least expensive photographer who will provide you with hundreds of bland and non-edited photos, then you should probably look elsewhere because Harrison is a perfectionist who will spend countless hours AFTER the shoot to dial everything in to perfection. For both the kids Bat Mitzvah's Harrison provided a mixture of black and white film and color digital, and the results always surpassed expectations, The most recent shoot with Harrison a few weeks ago for my daughter's senior photos (taken at the Scottsdale Civic Center) were simply magic! I contacted Harrison somewhat blindly based on finding him on Yelp and reviewing his website. I wanted photographs taken for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I was not sure of the style or format particularly, as I was dealing with different generations, ranging in age from 11-77 years old. I know I just wanted to "capture the moment" with the 20 or so people in our group. Harrison was very available by phone and I set up the session calling from Los Angeles. Harrison was very flexible with his timing and had good suggestions regarding the time needed for the shoot. I first met him at my parents house in Phoenix on the day we planned. He was on time and quickly determined the best place for photos. As it turned out, most of our group had already got dressed up for dinner, so it turned into a more formal shoot with posed photos and less random ones. We were able to get all the different sub-groups done and represented, as well as the difficult task of trying to do a large group shot. The photos turned out great! My parents were quite happy with them, as was the rest of the group. I elected to purchase the rights to all the photos so that we could re-distribute them to our group and they could keep as a memory of the event. We had about 140 quality photos in total for about a 75 minute session. The photos were available to us in under a week. He took both color and black and white shots. I think Harrison did an excellent job in capturing the moment without receiving any specific guidance from me as to how it should be done. He was professional and courteous and I would recommend him for events in the Phoenix area. read more

Harrison is great! He shot our wedding almost 10 years ago and our photos are timeless. Back then he used a mix of both black and white film and color film. Now I believe he shoots with digital as well but I imagine that for traditional film buffs he still shoots film. His approach to photography is very editorial which helps give many of his shots a very candid, of-the-moment feel. He prepared a very detailed shot list to ensure we didn't miss any of the "standard" wedding shots that one expects. But really, his candid shots are awesome, often unexpected, and in our case, captured many of those little moments that we may have too easily forgotten or not even witnessed. Harrison also shot our rehearsal dinner prior to the wedding which simply reinforced our commitment to have him shoot our wedding. Harrison shot our engagement session last month and we couldn't be happier with our photos. He has a keen eye for the photojournalistic style we were looking for, which was a top priority in my search for a photographer. The shoot was fun, relaxed, and natural. He charges an additional fee for this, but the total cost was still less than what I would have paid other photographers for just the engagement shoot. One photographer quoted me more than double for the same package, so Harrison's pricing was very fair, in my opinion. We are planning on having another photographer shoot our wedding overseas, but had we arranged for a local wedding, I would have loved Harrison to shoot for us again. We chose Harrison to photograph a very special time in our family's life - when my baby was four months old and we were all gathered, both sets of grandparents included, to celebrate both Thanksgiving and "Pop Pop's" 70th birthday. The moments that he captured will be treasured family heirlooms for a long time to come. I was in a tight time crunch with an inflexible schedule, but Harrison was able to fit me in at his home studio. It was a really easy process and he made me feel comfortable. I loooooved Harrison's artistic style when I looked at his website, and so we chose him for our wedding and we couldn't be happier with how it all came out! Both in artistry (what I really wanted), and in capturing the entirety of the event. Harrison, Michelle, and his second shooter at our main event did truly awesome work, and I would recommend them to anyone. Also, I barely remember seeing him at the wedding at all, and yet he/they still captured EVERY moment... fully present and on it, yet zero distraction from the experience itself. Love the candids! Love the artistic shots!! And love that our whole story was captured and we have loads of "regular" digital shots as well. (He send everything to you digitally, even the film shots he takes are then turned into mega high-resolution digital copies for you, it's awesome.) OH and I personally did a 1-on-1 photo shoot with Harrison for my business as well, he shot in film for that (I love the vintage, cross-processed work he does), and they came out amazing as well. I brought my own creative vision to this shoot and he was happy to work together on that vision.
