Don't waste your time here. The store is a mess. The furniture is cheap and chintzy. The prices are ridiculously expensive for what they are selling. The store needs to call it a day and just give up. Felt like I needed a shower after browsing the store. Yuck. read more

I'm looking for backyard furniture. The harrows I remember from years ago had loads of choices. This is a much smaller store than any I have ever seen before and really had nothing. There were several table and chair combinations but only two or three sofa and chair seating arrangements. When I finally found one that I liked, I'm not really sure why I said finally because there were only three. I had a couple of questions. There were three salesman and only one other customer in the store. So I stopped one of the salesman as he walked by and asked him a question. I wanted to know what the weight limit was on the chairs. His answer was, "if you can sit on it it must be fine". And he walked away. So I walked away also and now I'll be looking elsewhere read more

There should be negative ratings for places like this. If you ever wondered what happened to the salesman from Seaman's furniture and the shady local car dealership I found them here. They are the worst of the worst, dishonest, rude and disrespectful are the first three words that come to mind when I want to describe the sales staff, aside from the place looking like an unorganized garage sale. They run a sale for Labor Day, I walk in the store ask which umbrellas are on sale. The salesman points to these, I pick one purchase it and leave. Simple right? Wrong!!! I get home parts are missing for the pedestal, I call the store, the salesman Mike says ok come in Thursday we don't have any more until then. I said ok but you don't know which one I bought. He said yes the 10' for the sale price. I said yes but you charged me the full price, he said you didn't present a coupon. Now I'm back with the umbrella and coupon. Harrows sold me a pool In February! Recommended someone unreliable to install!! Finally found someone reputable to install and ladder I paid extra for is missing a part!!! The staff at the store all seem like they are on something. I called to ask if I could return a tree topper that I bought the day earlier that didn't fit on my tree. The elderly lady in the front of the cashier was so rude and hangs up the phone after telling me to speak to her supervisor when I come in. I go straight to the supervisor who gives me a refund. The lady and another employee then precede to start talking about me in front of my face like I wasn't even there. I purchased a tree last year that was promised before Thanksgiving but arrived much later. Opened tree for first time this year and it is clearly defective. There are gaping holes that the branches could not fill. I have had the older model of this tree for many years and am well aware of how to shape it. I called the store and was told someone would call me back, called again with same response. After the third time calling someone left a message with a number out of service. Finally got through to be told manager would call back, never happened. The final call I was told to call the general manager in Carle Place.This man was condescending and rude. Told me my clearly defective tree was a shaping problem and I didn't put it together properly. I reminded him that I have been shaping the older version of this tree for years and offered to send pictures he spoke over me saying they were not refunding for a used tree. I had already stated that the tree was never used but he was not having it. Please go anywhere else to purchase a tree as Harrows does not stand by their product and their customer service is non existent. read more

Husband and I were doing some yard work. We decided on getting new patio furniture. Walked into the store and saw that one sales person was helping another customer. There were 2 other employees there sitting at the desk. We walked around looked at what was available. We waited for someone to greet us or ask us if we needed help and we were completely ignored. It's like our presence didn't exist. Not sure it was a race thing or lack of customer service but I will never come back to this store. We always try our best to support local businesses but ended up going to Home Depot down the block and bought a table, chairs, umbrella amongst other items.. $1K + later that's a sale you lost. People need to learn that you are in a customer service business it's important to greet your potential customers and ask if they need help. It was a Monday afternoon your were not busy. read more

Bought an umbrella today that I realized later was marked way above the manufacturer price. I paid 160 for an umbrella that the manufacturer was listing on sale for $97. I probably would've let this go and just beat myself up for not doing better research but the original manufacturer price was 137- do where did 160 come from? I thought maybe they made a mistake and charged me for the wrong model and figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Returning to the store I asked about the price and they said it was 160. When I pointed out that the manufacturer was listing it for 97 and that was down from 137 the salesman got irritated and said he can't compete with online. I pointed out it wasn't about online pricing it was about the manufacturer pricing and I asked if it was customary to upcharge from the manufacturer price. He then pointed out that his price of 160 was down from 200- apparently wanting kudos for overcharging even more. I asked if he'd price match the 137, not even the current 97 (or 80 that Amazon presently has it for) and he scoffed and said he "would never do that". Not "I'm sorry, I can't". But "I would never do that". Okay fine. I'm the idiot here. But I "would never" return for the $700 patio set that I inquired about earlier in the day. Great job. Enjoy that extra $60 bucks. read more

On 12/28/13, I purchased a fake, pre-lit Christmas tree at Harrows of Melville. I purchased the tree after Christmas last year to take advantage of the 50% off savings with hopes to use it the following year. I specifically asked the sales person what I should do in the event the tree doesn't work. The sales person told me to bring it back and that their strict return policy does not pertain to damaged purchases. I open the box yesterday and assembled the tree in accordance with the directions provided. The top portion of the tree did not light up. Since the lights are already wired onto the tree, the entire tree becomes worthless. I called Harrows and explain my situation. The store manager, Karen, refused any refund or exchange citing her store policy of no refunds or exchanges. I explained what was told to me and she only re-recited her policy of no refunds or returns. I feel Harrows has an implied warranty, on all goods sold in their store should be in working order. Anything not working, as implied during purchase, should be exchanged or refunded. There service is the worst I have ever seen from a retailer. Buy online. Do u think Amazon would have refused an exchange for damaged goods. Never. read more

So as you read all other reviews, you see that the service there is awful. You'd think that the owner and staff would read these and all the reviews on google and make a change. But keeping that aside, you as the buyer must be aware of one thing. They are NOT allowing you to return or exchange any merchandise even if unopened with a receipt and using COVID as an excuse to do so. I am not sure if prior to COVID they didn't allow returns as well, but as a "reputable" business I would have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they did. But for now and during this time this is their policy and even though anything returned can be disinfected, they will have none of it. Of course it's easy to use the "it's for the safety of our customers and staff" excuse, but if they really wanted to provide even minimal customer service, they would figure out a way to accept returns like many other businesses are currently doing. So if you plan on buying anything, just know this in advance so you don't get screwed by their company beneficial policy. You won't realize this "convenient" no return policy for them until you get home and see it on the bottom of your receipt. read more

Richie, the manager of the Carle Place store is a disgrace to the reputation of Harrows!! He is unprofessional and uncooperative! I purchased a small tiki bar on Aug 25, 2014. It was outdoors, on new brick pavers and I had never used it because it was the end of the season. Upon storing it for the winter on Oct 21, I noticed there was black and green mold all over it. I called the store during the week and told them I was going to bring it back by the weekend. I loaded it on top of and inside my car on Saturday, Nov 1. The smell of the mold, and the accumulated smelly water in the legs of the tiki bar was awful. Upon my arrival at the store with the furniture, I was told by Richie, the manager that he couldn't accept it for return "at this time". He said I had to bring it back home, and then return it again, after "it was looked into and looked at by the manufacturer". I suggested leaving it there to be inspected since I work all week, but he said he couldn't fit it at the store due to all the storage in the back area. The tiki bar is a total of 12 sq ft. He refused to budge. How do you send a customer away with such a defective product? This, after I spent over $20,000 in backyard furniture there this summer? He said I should have come to discuss it before appearing with the product. How absolutely ridiculous! Do people go to Home Depot to "talk about returning a rake" and then go back with the rake the next time? I don't blame Harrows as a store - especially for the fact that Jimmy of the Carle Place store was so helpful and accommodating every time I went in there. I do blame Harrows for their lack of diligence in hiring this guy who was rude, unaccommodating and unprofessional at a minimum. As an aside, there was nothing on the receipt as to this "special" return procedure, and no postings in the store. read more
