Pay for the buckets at the clubhouse before going to the range. With the outdoor stalls they have both real grass or fake turf. The fake turf provides the usual left handed or right handed grass panels with a rubber tee. The rubber tee is a bit high as I know some other places usually have a taller and a shorter rubber tee for interchanging. Otherwise the spots are pretty good (no shade fyi) and the ball dispensing machine is quick and fast.

It did start raining quite heavily while we were there, so if you're worried about the weather, it's important to know that there is no coverage for the outdoor section!

Remember to arrive 20 mins before your Tee time to make payment and you should book the time in advance. This is another great fun family activity for "staycation". With my family, we don't take this game seriously so we play best ball so that we don't feel too much pressure from the group behind us. Workers here are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Special shoutout to Sal for going through the extra trouble of locating a more suitable club for me when I wasn't really happy about the one they initially gave (& also bringing it right up to me at the range!) The driving range is pretty spacious & there are plenty (although it does get more crowded later on in the day). There are a few target practicing flags on the range as well. I haven't had the chance to play holes here but I would love to next season!

Lots of free parking, large space that is well marked, organised and staffed. All events are outside, so dress accordingly to the weather. Inside the main house is the washrooms and food. They serve big scoops of Kawartha Diary with almost all the flavours made. For mini put, there are two courses to try; Shipwreck or the logging theme. Shipwreck is slightly more challenging. Somehow my kids got the par for the course which is labelled on a sign at each hole. They now think they're big shots and want to go pro, meanwhile my ball enjoyed the water features in the Shipwreck course. The batting cages are self explanatory. Sign at each cage tells you what to expect from ball type to speed level. One token gets 15 pitches, just get the 5 special pricing, it doesn't expire. Bring your own helmet and bat as the ones supplied may not be the greatest. This area is either empty or packed with teams going there to meet up and waiting for a certain pitch. It would be better if they could adjust cages depending on needs of the group. Otherwise the wait can be long.

The pro shop and F&B staff are always very accommodating of our requests and the food quality is good. For today's round, we got rained out early into the back nine. Getting a rain cheque was no problem. With nothing else to do, we had lunch in the clubhouse. Today's special was a half a rack of ribs with coleslaw and potato salad. The ribs were cooked very well and fall-off-the-bone tender. Nice flavour. The potato salad and coleslaw were properly seasoned. I'm very particular about potato salad and most lack any kind of seasoning. This one was good. As long as St. Andrew's Valley keeps doing things right, I'll keep making the 45 minute drive from home to get here.

Location: It's in Aurora east of yonge Street off on the north side of St. Johns side road. Parking: Golf course in the suburbs= lots of places for cars. They have a main lot and a side lot. You are good to go. Property: Golf course so lots of green. There are three buildings. A club house, a meeting building (where we were) and a barn where I think they keep the golf carts. Great landscaping and the buildings are cute. If you didn't know it was a golf course you would think it was a winery or those little shops that make their buildings look old time ish There's a cute patio off of the meeting building that looks out over the gf course. It's really nice Meeting building: It could be nicer inside. It's an 1980sand 1990s mix. The weird thing, everything seems new. They need to hire a decorator. Salmon paint in the washrooms. Not so classy Oh the washrooms, they have two women stalls in the washroom on the lower floor. Not the best when there's a meeting with a lot of women. You have to walk down stairs to get to them. If you can't walk down stairs you have to go to another building to use the accessible washrooms. That doesn't seem right. Minus one star. Oh they really need to clean the carpets, they are filthy. Visibly filthy Food: Yum The staff is able to take neutral foods, chicken-salmon-veg-pasta, and make it tastes great. Always more than enough for everyone, served on time and by smiling buffet staff. I also love their coffee. It's a welcome surprise compared to the weak water down stuff you get at other places Fruit trays were great, fresh and in season fruit. Dessert trays, heavy on the. There were not very many houses around the course either. Since that time I played the Academy 9-hole course a number of times. I liked the Academy because it was very challenging for a short course. If you miss the fairway, there was a very high chance that you would lose your ball in the rough and/or fescue. The fescue is baaaaad. Don't even bother trying to hit out of it. I finally decided to try out the 18-hole course after years of procrastinating. I played on a Sunday afternoon at 3:01 pm (twilight starts at 3 pm, and super twilight at 5:30 pm). For $65 you get a cart for your 18 holes. I highly recommend getting a cart. There are a lot of hills and you won't enjoy your round if you had to carry your bag. Both the 9- and 18-hole courses are very well maintained. There are some tough spots (we played after it rained) and the bunkers can be brutal. We took free drops instead of playing out of the bunkers, especially after rain. Also a couple of the holes had very strange layouts. There were two greens that were absolutely hidden and nearly impossible to aim for unless you had played it before. Thankfully all the carts are fitted with GPS devices so you know how far you are from the green. The staff and marshalls were all very polite and kind. We had a slow group but the marshall tried her best to keep everyone moving. Their service really stood out to me. I would definitely play Braeben again. For $65 and the convenience of the course's location, I think it's a great value. You might have a tough time if you're a beginner because of the fescue and tight fairways, but there are some easy par 3s and straight 4s to keep you going.
