We have gone here for years but regardless of the remodeling, the quality of food has declined with higher prices. For all the poached egg meals I've ordered recently, all have been solid. Soar dough is either stale or over toasted. I think it's time for a change of places for me. read more

I sort of have a love/hate relationship with this place. Maybe it would get better if I stopped going during the big rushes, meaning early brekkies and lunch time. The food is AMAZING! Really good and the portions are great, neither too big or small. which is nice. I guess my issue is the service.... more importantly servers. While the guy I assume is Harry, is fantabulously brilliant the other servers are..... lacking. First there is the guy today who talked about his vacation to Poland, where he drank so much vodka (which is apparently miles better than the stuff here in Ireland) he was sure it was 24 hrs straight, while I patiently waited for my menu. Now, I am proud of him. I would have died from alcohol poisoning if I drank vodka for 24 straight hrs. However, I am not really sure the doorway of your place of employment is really the place to have said conversation, because I was far less offended when he retold the story to a table full of regulars. Seriously, I was. No clue that was about, but moving on. Second there is the too cute for words little boy (in all honesty he is probably in his early 20's, I am just old) who always looks like God pooped in his cornflakes. Every time I see him I want to ask him if it is really so hard to look as if he completely hates his life. I mean even a look of total boredom would be better than the "I may have to go to my room and listen to Morrisey after this because misery loves company" look he ALWAYS has. However, since the food is good, the coffee decent and the proximity to my gaff is ideal I will continue to frequent this place and endure angsty little boys and oversharing on the drunken front. read more

I took my 3 housemates out to dinner in Harrys Cafe last night, I have only previously been there for breakfast, and after a chat with the owner thought I would come in and try the evening menu. They do a very good deal Tue-Sat evening for two, if you buy 2 starters you get one of your mains free. The atmosphere is very comfortable, a real local, relaxed and familiar air about the location. We ordered the nachos, chicken wings and fish cakes for starters. The nachos were the first to arrive and looked as divine as they tasted. My chicken wings were good, a nice spicy sauce covered them and an ample side of blue cheese dip. I also got a bowl of water and extra napkins without asking (which is always a nice touch, wings are messy you know!). For the mains 3 of us were too tempted by the char-grilled homemade beef burger with emmental and jalapeno relish, the other had the chicken. The burger was hearty and tasted gorgeous. The chips were skinny but plentiful. I had a glass of South African White to wash it all down and we were provided with plenty of water, again which we didn't need to ask for. Needless to say the service was pleasant, unfussy and prompt. The quality of the food is only met by the price, 4 starters, 4 mains (we got two free as per the deal) and a glass of wine came to e60. I have the pleasure of having lunch there once in a while when I'm in the area. It's always very tasty, the staff is extremely pleasant and will always accomodate your requests if you stray a bit from the menu. Everything I've ever ordered there has been perfectly good and cheap. read more

Harry's cafe bar has it's own unique atmosphere. Informal and casual and always with great tunes playing quietly in the background. A great location for some quiet time but also very child and family friendly. The management and staff make it their business to get to know you. Soon you'll be greeted by name and asking if you're having the usual. Now to the important matter the food. I'm eating there long enough with my family to have tried everything on the menu. You can see your food being cooked over the pass, ingredients are always fresh and everything is cooked to order on site. I highly recommend (at the moment) the tuna ciabatta, the eggs Benedict, the retro egg salad sandwich, the Thai chicken soup, the seafood chowder, the pulled pork sandwich, the potatoe rosti, the chicken wings, the poached eggs and bacon with smashed avocado open sandwich.. But not all at the same time. Located in scenic dun laoghaire near the prom, the pier and the peoples park, you're never too far from somewhere to walk off the feed. Coffee is hands down the best in dun laoghaire, I'm a latte man but my wife drinks the cappucino. All tastes and dietary requirements catered for. Harry's rocks.. Simple as that and the prices are very reasonable. Great variety and good value. read more

A very good place for breakfast but no omelets on the menu and to get one you have to give up your first born son. It can be busy weekend mornings so go early. It would never stop me from going there but the clever decor is getting a bit frayed around the edges. read more

Harrys is ok for dun l. I've been going for years and although I like it-it's really just the best of a bad bunch. Couple of pluses here to start... 1- Good food and coffee. 2- Good location for people watching 3- They alway have a selection of daily papers. But, I have a few problems with this place... 1-it's really shabby. Hasn't been cared for since it opened its doors. The menus are dirty A4 printouts and the seating upholstery is manky. 2- I don't mind paying for good food but if you're paying nearly 10 euro for eggs, they could at least include a coffee with it read more

Went here for lunch today after landing in Dublin this morning...was looking for something close to my hotel and local with a decent variety...and Harry's fit the bill! The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. The service was good. I ordered the goat cheese tortilla without the peppers - it was good and filling - very fresh and a nice mixture of flavors...obviously a step up from the transatlantic plane food I had! My travel mate had the tuna on cibatta and really enjoyed it. It was a nice welcome to Dun Laoghaire after a long day of traveling! read more

OOOOHHH I remember this place! Back in the old days when I worked in DunLaoghaire, I used to come here for breakfast, I can remember thinking this is sooooo bad, the eggs are greasy the sausages are fatty but to be honest it all tasted fantastic, really, it was the perfect start to what was regularly am imperfect day. Came here with a group if friends having passed by it for years, it from the outside looking a bit out of date. I was pleasantly surprised. Inside, though the art work was questionable, it had a really nice buzzing atmosphere and a much nicer than expected decor; lovely stone walls and leather booths. It was busy but we were seated quickly. I had eggs Benedict and an orange juice. It was past three on a Sunday and they were still serving brunch which was great. There was a bit of a wait but it was worth it; the portion generous and very tasty (though the eggs were slightly overcooked) and the orange juice (at a pricey 3.95) was really really good. A few of my friends' coffees took quite a while but they were extremely busy so I could understand. Overall I think I'd definitely come back, for the expensive orange juice at least! read more

Harry's Cafe Bar is located in Dun Laoghaire and it's a small place with about about ten tables: even if it leans out on the road, there is no noise arriving from outside. Modern-classical style, so much wood, a dwarfish counter with so much of blackboard on which everyday you can find the menu are the most important element of this place. You can fin tourists but most of the visitors are locals. The menù for the lunch is very Irish with so much of irish breakfast and a series of sandwiches and soups to stay on the light one. The menu for the evening becomes fusion and the the tastes of sea prevails and are enriched indeed by oriental and spicy sauces and by interesting combinings. The blandest of the hamburgers is prepared to the moment with fresh ingredients and particular spice for which some that you won't eat something of peer and standard, eaten already elsewhere. Scones, muffin and cakes are made in the house for which their various availability and it is always not possible to find that that is looked for. A full lunch coast less than 10 euros, for a dinner we are at the most around the 20 euros. read more

It's with regret that I'm prompted to write this review of Harry's Café, until now I had only ever been once or twice on a Sunday after a quiet service in church or after being spat out of a vat of whiskey. The quality of service and food was teetering just above reasonable in those instances. It certainly wouldn't prompt any kind of eulogy or even court any criticism worthy of note. I went for lunch with two friends today. It's important to note, at the time the order was placed, it was empty spare two other tables. We all ordered variations of a tuna melt, either in a wrap or on a ciabatta. It seemed a reasonably simple order but given the time taken to prepare this, Harry had obviously left to ensnare the great blue beast from the sea. I could understand a moderate delay, given that this delicious morsel is on the brink of extinction but this was bordering on unreasonable. Just before I could begin contemplating the moral implications of the dish I had chosen, alas, it arrived. It was at this point I realised that not much related to this Tuna Melt had been melted, spare maybe the ice Harry stored the great blue beast on while returning to shore. I thought that Harry may have, in his rush to please his customers, simply forgotten to grill the item in question. I was very wrong. After returning the item and believing that the whole sordid affair was now dealt with I was shocked to find that Harry, or at least a portly, balding and thoroughly odious representative for him had chosen to share with me a bizarre rant on how the service industry should work. I've still not decided which part of this ordeal was more unprofessional, the eon waiting for them to catch the tuna and write a spiritual sequel to Moby Dick or the part where the balding, odious representative for Harry told me "I ate the rest of the item you returned" (on the shop floor) before launching into the intimidating segue about "Right, this is the way this works. You're lucky I'm not charging you this time." Oh, how I trembled. I was then told that "If you come back to Harry's, you'll be served food the way we present it and that's that." In my quest for the best lunch venue in Dun Laoghaire I found Harry's Cafe Bar thanks to Yelp and a blind wander down Georges Street. First thing that struck me when I walked in, was the nice atmosphere. The place was quite full and there was a pleasant hum of chatter in the background. After finding a seat, I couldn't help but notice that I was struggling to find something to eat for lunch, even though there was quite a substantial menu. I then started scanning what everybody else was eating and noticed that people had large sandwiches and big bowls of soup which weren't listed in the menu! How did these people get these?! Did they bring their sandwiches in with them?! Brought the soup in in their pockets?! I asked the waitress if they did sandwiches. She said yes and attempted to show me where they were in the menu to which it turned out that my menu was missing a page. A fairly critical page at lunch time. The "Lunch Menu" page. I suppose I should be embarrassed that I didn't manage to figure this out myself. I blame the hunger. I ordered the soup of the day and a sandwich (BLT) which was a lunch special. €8.50. Not bad. (€8.50 seems to be a magic number in Dun Laoghaire, a lot of lunch orders seem to come to €8.50). The soup and sambo came down and I was instantly impressed. A large treble-decker BLT and a big bowl of thick tomato soup. Both were excellent. There was a really pretty blonde girl sitting opposite me with her friends and I think the sheer sight of her gave me a good impression of Harry's Cafe. That coupled with the good food makes Harry's Cafe bar one of my favorite venues for lunch in Dun Laoghaire. read more

I was seriously hoping for good things from Harry's when I arrived with my two sisters to get a nice cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day. I have been looking for a place to match the high standard of my most favourite cafe which has recently closed down - The World Cafe. However, Harry's simply just does not match up. Not only did I have to wait a very long time for just a hot drink, it was very dark and very stuffy inside. Although I have not had a full meal at Harry's, I don't plan to. If it took that long to make me a hot drink, I can only guess how long it would take for a full meal to arrive at my table. An hour perhaps? read more

I'm a bit confused by this place to be prefectly honest. When I went there, I found it overpriced with mediocre food. But then other friends of mine swear by it. What a conundrum. I will admit that the layout is nice, and it has a good community atmosphere going on for it. The breakfasts aren't the greatest (and I think even fans of the place will admit that), but I guess the lunchy stuff is decent. Harry's is a dependable lunch option for good quality salads, soups and sandwiches. On my last visit here, I had the soup of the day, a giant, steaming bowl of creamy broccoli soup served with homemade soda bread and real butter. It was the perfect winter warmer on a wet blustery day. My friend had the roast-in-a-roll which changes daily. On our visit, it was the turn of the roast pork, which was served with apple sauce, stuffing, and a little salad. Unfussy, comforting and hearty, the kind of sandwich that makes you too full for dinner. The coffee is decent, and even better if accompanied by one of the delectable desserts. The baked New York cheesecake is highly recommended! read more

Harry's is where I go for food when I'm in Dun Laoghaire. I've always found the service good, the coffee even better and the prices pretty fair. Had a nice spicy lamb wrap a while ago with a (slightly too oily) spicy mince mixture and a nice crisp salad. Have also had a noodly chickeny soup which was slightly over salted but still A-OK. I can imagine that this place would get busy and noisy (the curse of the wooden floor) at times, but it's never been that way when I've been in around 2pm on a Saturday. Take a table in the front corner and watch the (very) eclectic social microcosm of Dun Laoghaire wander by. read more

Been here in ireland for 7 nights and we (my partner & i) are sooooo glad to finally find a place that serves a decent cuppa coffee and greaattt breakfast!! We are so sick of the overly salty irish bacon, puddings and badly done burgers we have been having in other restaurants. Wish the cafe opened earlier in the mornings though. I used to love this place. I have been going there for brunch for the last 4 years on and off. I think the food is great if a bit on the expensive side. I dont have much to say about the service, but for the most part they have been very pleasant. My self consciousness started when I had a baby... I have always felt that they find the fact that you DARE to enter with a buggy a bit of a personal affront. And that is making the effort of not going at peak times. I definetely dont feel welcome when I am pushing a buggy. Dont know if anybody else has had the same issue. read more

Visited here with my wife and daughter on 12/22/12. We were staying nearby at the Royal Marine Hotel and tired of the breakfast buffet. I have to say that it is hard for a coffee shop/cafe to separate itself from the crowded competition in the immediate area. There are half a dozen places within a few blocks where you can find a similar experience. We give them 4 stars for their coffees, 3 stars for the food and 2 stars for service that was just a little unfriendly. read more

I recently moved to the area and decided I try out Harrys one morning when I didnt have time to make breakfast. The interior could definitely use some refurbishment. It has a very grim and outdated feel to it. The service was quite friendly, but also a little slow. The food however was awful. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. At €8 i was expecting something a bit more substantial than some supermarket bread and low quality sausage and bacon. The flavour was also quite peculiar and didnt taste right. Perhaps their other dishes are okay but it is still overpriced and very second rate food. If thats what you like. Go to harrys. read more

Harry's is great. It's right in the midst of Dun Laoghaire's main street and it has great food, drink, vibe and service. I used to eat here a lot as I worked nearby and they do fab lunches, both to eat in or take away. I was a big fan of getting their salads to take back to my desk. They weren't exactly cheap - but so lovely. Their chowder is yum too, but might not be to everyone's taste. It has a spicy thing going on, as oppose to creamy. I think it's delicious though. I was back in Harry's recently after not being in for a while and I noticed most of the staff are the same as before, which is a very good sign of a place in my opinion. Only downside is that the loos are tiny and uncomfortable. read more

This place is always busy when I look in the window and so I assumed it was a quality restaurant. For the most part it was. My father ordered the huevos rancheros, which were great, and I ordered the pancake stack with a side of bacon and asked if they could put bananas in them and the waiter said yes. My pancakes arrived with pancakes covered in tiny diced pieces of bacon and no bananas. I informed the waiter and he said he would check with the kitchen. He eventually took my plate back and came out 5-10 minutes later with pancakes and a regular side of bacon. But the bananas were on the side (not what I asked for) and I found bits of bacon still in my pancakes, which were also cold. They had simply taken my original plate, scraped off the bacon bits and put new bacon on it. I don't care if you get an order wrong but this just shows the lack of concern or care for the customer which is sad because the food is pretty decent. I came here 3 weeks ago to grab a coffee before an interview. The place was pretty busy-the manager (I think) came over and asked me to sit somewhere else as it was just myself (however the table he pointed too had the same amount of chairs). I did what he said. I went up and asked for a coffee for here. 10 minutes later I got a call and I had to take the coffee to go so I asked the man at the counter would it be ok if I took it to go (there was 5 or 6 orders ahead of mine so it hadnt been made yet which is grand). The manager(I think) came over and asked me why I was in the way. I asked would it be ok if i took my coffee to go, which he replied 'yes i would like if you left as we are serving lunch and need the table' (rude) he then asked why I changed my mind ..I said that the interview changed to a different location to which he shouted aloud 'the interview is cancelled' everyone turned and looked. He wanted to humiliate me (he must have been in a bad mood before and took it out on me). There was absolutely no need for that at all!-as I was a paying customer who did everything he said-moved table, remained calm and polite as he roared at me. I paid for the coffee said thanks and left. Needless to say I won't be coming back! read more
