My husband and I had the best shrimp poboys yesterday! We were driving through Larose and stopped by Harry's Poboys. So many shrimp, they were just falling out the delicious crispy French bread! The Tuesday special is a whole shrimp poboy, small fry and small drink for $13, I think-could have been $15, but it was huge! Found this little place on our way home from Grande Isle as we were looking for a grab and go. Burgers are delicious. Fries were under seasoned and under cooked for our taste. We prefer crispy seasoned fries. My daughter ordered fried oysters, against my advice (June is not a good oyster month). The oysters were tiny and did not taste right. My son had the BBQ boneless wings. Very good. They claim they are the best Po-Boys on the Bayou. I would argue they are one of the best in the country. The lady at the front was COVID ready and the place looks clean. Even the Bathrooms were the cleanest I've seen on the Bayou. If you don't stop by here to get a PO-Boy. I first ate at Harry's back in 1997 or so, coming back from some work at a shipyard in Larose. Had the shrimp poboy and was amazed. Since then, I either got the shrimp or crawfish poboy and was never disappointed. About 10 years ago, the roast beef poboy was recommended. That is all I get there when I am in the area. I am happy to say that even with a change of ownership, I have not seen any drop in quality. If anything, the new expanded hours are a blessing. Well, not having a lot of experience with these things I am no expert, but I can say the that the po boy sandwiches I have had here on several occasions are pretty damn tasty! When the roast beef po-boy from Harry's Po-boys was recommended to us, we didn't know what a treat we were gonna have!!! It is possibly the messiest, juiciest, smokiest, yummiest, overloaded-est, tenderest, run-down-your-arms delicious po-boy you will ever eat! Roast beef is never my first choice for a po-boy, but it will be when I'm in Larose! You could make another roast beef sandwich from the meat spilling out both sides of a fresh po-boy loaf of bread! Tried this famous roast beef poboy and I don't understand the hype. The roast beef was flavorless and it was diffinetly lacking seasoning and there was very little meat. They do put a good amount of gravy on the sandwich but I'm not really a big fan of soggy bread but if it was good I could handle it. I live in California but work in Louisiana. I had heard about this place for years, and tried many times to hit it, but always just missed for one reason or another. Well, today I finally got to try a legendary Harry's Roast Beef Po Boy....and legendary it was. I had it fully dressed with the addition of grilled onions (disgusting) and, yeah, drenched in gravy just as the photos show, which did indeed make it an obscene, wet, sloppy, mess to eat (yep, disgusting). Wouldn't have it any other way! When I picked up my order, I asked for some napkins and the lady handed me a whole napkin dispenser. I knew I was in for a good time! This sandwich is not for sissies. So dive in if you dare! You can wash up later. Very friendly service (the grilled onions was her suggestion, God bless her) and very reasonable prices. The hours are short (lunchtime) and they're only open weekdays, but it's definitely worth the effort to get here. read more
