Such an awesome and modern building with a very cool sculpture in the middle. Was making some DC Power Plays aka meetings with Chiefs of Staff and General Counsel of U.S. Senators (mine in Oklahoma) in this ultra cool and modern building, and "Felt the Bern" (visiting Senator Bernie Sanders and asking his staffers what committees he works on - from memory, Health, Education, Labor, Veterans' Affairs, Energy & Natural Resources), visited the offices of the two Senators from my home state of Cali (Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff) and dropped off my card with Senator Thom Tillis, who chairs the Subcommittee on IP. I was unaware that this was the third office building in use for the Senate. Started construction in the 1970s and finished in 1982, this building was named for Michigan senator Philip A. Hart. Like the House, the Senate buildings are all connected. With Hart, it is immediately connected to Dirksen. This building was mostly constructed due to the fact that the senate staff exploded when it was agreed upon that each member would be able to hire staff for a committee they were assigned to. The building is beautiful and it feels open. Natural light pours in over the statue in the atrium. With the contemporary style in here, it doesn't feel so institutional. Signage is ample to direct you where you need to go. One thing to check out in here is the designs that could have been the capitol building. read more

This labyrinthine building is... an office building. One of the most important office buildings at the center of our government, but an office building nonetheless. You can take a tour here, when they are allowing them. Be ready to go through the security check--get there early! The other obvious reason to go is to see your senator. That's the reason I was here; I attended a professional event and when the meetings concluded, we ended the symposium by visiting our congressional representatives. I was with a group of folks from different institutions in Chicago and Illinois, so we visited our senators and one representative. It's kinda wild how you meet with folks here--in Durbin's office we were in a conference room; in Duckworth's, there were so many people in there that our group of seven met with her staff in the middle of the front office. Whilst here I also stopped in Senator Merkley's office to take a photo of the PDX carpet (some Oregonians were really passionate about that carpet), as well as my girl Elizabeth Warren (pre-presidential campaign). If you don't have to visit your representative, I'd take a tour because I'm interested in government and whatnot. I'd like to visit Washington D.C. again, and if so I'll be sure to visit here. read more

Clouds were missing from the top of the mountain sculptures. Had bubblers though they were very irony. Beautiful walls and flooring and also the balconies were immaculate. Nice glass work on the outside as well. Visit ! read more

I spend a lot of time here on lobbying days. While there may not be a lot to look at it's more a matter of history. The long corridors are lined with offices with doors made of large heavy wood that are clearly original. Once inside offices they are comfortable and decor depends on the member's style, taste, hobbies, etc. If you're nearby it doesn't hurt to peek in and check out the halls. read more

The best government office building in DC. It's just a few blocks from the US Capitol and by far the nicest office building in Congress. It houses the Senate and contrary to the House offices, The Hart Building is modern, open, and light. Anyone can walk in (you just need to get through security) and explore the building. You'll notice a large middle section with a modern sculpture in the middle. Take one of the elevators to any floor and walk around looking at how big the Senator offices are. Very modern Senate Office Building, but with history. Specifically, I saw the ghost of John C. Calhoun in the men's bathroom on the eighth floor. This is a seldom-used restroom, which makes it one of the best in D.C., so it is no surprise that I was the first person to discover it was haunted by the ghost of that great statesman John Calhoun. I will not forget his words. Keep in mind this was some years ago when Tommy Bowden was still coach of Clemson's football Tigers. Now, Calhoun was from Clemson, SC and he appeared to me and urged the firing of Bowden. Of course, that was no groundbreaking idea as Clemson had underachieved under Tommy. But then ghost Calhoun offered the most prescient insight I have ever been privy to. He said hire Dabo Swinney and you will win championships (plural). "Who?" I asked. "Dabo," the ghost said before disappearing into the ether. John C. Calhoun may not have been right about slavery, but he surely was right about Dabo. It looks like Tigers can indeed change their stripes. read more

Was in Washington DC for a weekend and during a tour of the Capitol Building our tour guide told us we could stop by the Hart Senate Office Building to pick up free gallery tickets for the House and the Senate. Since my girlfriend and I were from CA we walked a block or so to the Hart Senate Office building and stopped by Senator Feinstein's office. In a matter of minutes we each had tickets, which were were nice little souvenirs to say the least. There's really not much to see in the Hart Senate Office Building, after all it is an office building. But it was still kind of neat to see all the different offices and flags everywhere. The offices are open later than most the museums so make this the last stop of your day before you head back to your hotel. read more

Nice modern location for U.S. Senator's staff offices. 8-story high atrium with modern art "Mountains and Clouds" complete with ceiling mobile clouds. Light, airy and full of marble. Opened in 1982. read more

We came here to meet Senator Lee from Utah. Kate from his staff did a fantastic job of showing us the capital. She pointed out the unique features of the capital and took us on places that are rare. We enjoyed Jello with senator Lee and then had our family picture taken with him. The building here is clean, easy to get to and finding a parking space was not as hard as I thought it might be. read more
