I did however recently spend a weekend on the campus familiarizing myself with the grounds and availing myself of the facilities. The campus is spread across 300 acres along the Farmington River. Most of the campus buildings are located inside a mile loop surrounded by sprawling fields that include a football field, several baseball and soccer fields and tennis courts. The campus also has an art museum, concert hall, greenhouse and chicken coop. There is a large athletic facility with an 8 lane 25 yard swimming pool. The dorms are clean and well updated. The interiors were all well maintained with clean carpets and freshly painted walls. Every thing looks like it has been recently renovated and doesn't have the worn out institutional feel a lot of dorms I've seen have. I only had a chance to see a small part of the campus but what I saw was very impressive. While at Loomis I went jogging along the mile loop around campus, went sledding near the river, and went swimming in the indoor pool. Overall Loomis Chaffee has a beautiful campus that feels more like a small liberal arts college than a high school and gives you the feeling of being nestled away deep into the heart of New England. The school has an excellent academic reputation and a particularly good history department. There is a lot of support, either from teachers (mostly living on campus) or student tutoring centers. Student body is a mix of all nationalities and every kind of background. Everyone can be his or her self in this community. It is not at all pretentious, rather, the atmosphere is pretty down to earth. If you are lucky enough to be admitted, it's a great place to enjoy high school. There is something for everyone, and even after spending four years there, it's hard to take advantage of everything the school has to offer! There are so many opportunities. The coursework is demanding at any level, so be ready to study. You will not have a lot of free time, as everything is very structured. AP courses are no longer offered here, they only offer regular courses, honors, and CL. Courses on offer go to very high levels.

The exercise equipment is above average, but the free weight area seems like an afterthought. It's too small and lacks the redundancy you need to get through a workout if it's busy. The hours are ok, but unless you're really in tune with the Jewish holiday calendar, you're going to be disappointed periodically. Yes, the facility closes to celebrate these things. Also, special events like bar mitzvahs pop-up and make the gymnasium unavailable. It's a nice facility, but it's not a great value.

The library is great and seams to be the center hub of the campus. My daughter has been accepted and we were touring. I like the small feel of the campus. The staff was very accommodating and always seamed ready to stop and answer any questions we had. We will see if this will be the place for her.

I have…read morebeen in contact with these offices for the past month on trying to get a summer class and EVERY-TIME I called including today NOTHING has been done.. and it's so frustrating because it affects my overall graduating timeframe. The summer class would mean for me to graduate in a timeframe that I need to in order for me to move forward with my career. I would really appreciate that the staff would care about their students and the ones that are checked out I will hope their superiors are noticing the amount of errors and the lack of follow through so they can have people who actually want to work there work there.

Don't let the stigma of community colleges fool you…read more This is a wonderful school at a much lower cost than other traditional post-secondary institutions. Majority of the staff are super nice and kind. My professors were amazing; a lot of them were/are not only professionals in their field of study (my Forensic Science instructor, Bob O'Brien, worked under Dr. Henry Lee, otherwise known as the godfather of modern forensics), but amazing and helpful individuals that truly wanted to see their students succeed. Their tutoring/writing center and academic counselors are also wonderful; you just need to seek out their assistance on your own (it's not high school, so there will be no hand-holding here). There's also a book scholarship fund for those who are struggling financially in the Student Affairs office. Definitely seek that out as well if applicable. Also, Robert Turner is THE gentleman to seek out if you plan on transferring in courses or transferring out of the school to another institution. :) Basically, it's a great school with a great price, with a super supportive community. I highly recommend that anyone looking to take some courses, whether it be for personal enrichment or prerequisites for a four-year degree look here first. I plan on completing my Paralegal Certification here once I can secure an 8-5 shift at my fulltime job (so I'll be able to take night classes). :D

The entire place seemed to genuinely care about the well being of my child. They have church service 1x a week, and say prayers daily (and The Pledge). My family is not catholic but that was okay. Instruction included music and gym. We had trouble affording the uniform and they allowed us to use used ones until we could buy them. Tuition can be made in payments. And the lunches are varied which is nice. While my child was in Kindergarten, I saw the older kids in the hallway. They were all so respectful. Overall, a very positive experience. If I HAD to come up with a negative, I would elect for gym class more often, and add foreign language instruction at the lower 'grades'
