Santa Cruz is very fortunate to have multiple fabric stores to pick from, but I always find myself coming back to Harts whenever I need to stock up on supplies (and even when I don't). The selection and customer service makes it so enjoyable to visit the store and explore all the options, although online ordering also makes purchasing super convenient. I'm pretty new to sewing and having so many cute fabric options has really motivated me to learn new things and stick with it

Omg! Harts moved to the greatest location. Even better fabric than before and the store is so bright and open. Easy to shop.

Love this store! Has such a nice variety of all type a of quality fabrics. They have a good selection of quilt, knit, and home decor fabric. The staff was kind and helpful!

Updated policy used to gaslight me.

A bit high-priced, but excellent selection in fabrics. The employees are generally knowledgeable as well.

This place is a little hidden treasure shop full of fun unique fabric, buttons, ribbons, thread, patterns and so much more. I've been dying to stroll in but I tend to hit up this neck of the woods (more like courtyard) after the sun goes down so I was ecstatic to drop in after a visit to Wells Fargo next door. This place was so packed full of eye candy that I just had to take a few photos. I purhcased a beautiful tropical piece of fabric that screamed Paradise and some extremely large wooden buttons they almost look like coconut shells. I'm on a mission to make make-up bags for my sisters and I. We'll see... hopefully finish this mini project before Christmas. The lovely lady who runs Findings is super sweet and warmhearted. I look forward to going back soon!

Yes, I had lusted for it after having seen another woman holding it and showing it off at a fabric store in San Jose. I was drawn to it, like a fly to a disgusting piece of poop. Except the aforementioned poop was a gorgeous silk fabric - and I wanted it. Badly. But I found out from her that I'd have to drive my lazy arse down to Carmel-by-the-sea to get this silk. And so I did. What I didn't realize, was that Carmel-b-t-s has absolutely no addresses. So my hunt became even harder. Luckily, there's this new technology called a "phone" that I was able to use to ask where it was exactly located. This cute little store, on San Carlos St (between Ocean Ave and 7th Ave in Carmel Square) has buttons, notions, ribbons, and some great but limited fabrics. There were some good fabrics for interior designs. Nancy, the owner, is just a peach. She's helpful and friendly and everything I wish most fabric store employees would be like. I heart Carmel, and this shop just adds to its charm. Would love to come again and look around for more good "findings" :-)

While I was shopping, the store associates were polite, friendly, informative, and helpful. However, when I arrived at the fabric-cutting counter, I initially felt that the associate helping me, Addie, was impatient and somewhat hostile toward my lack of knowledge. Her demeanor improved after she realized that I was a complete beginner to sewing. I had come to the store to purchase materials for my very first project after my sewing teacher recommended it to me. My sister was with me and was being assisted by a different associate at the adjacent cutting counter. I wasn't sure how much fabric I needed. I explained to Addie that my project required two 7-by-9-inch pieces of fabric. She quickly explained the yardage calculation to me in a way that I couldn't follow, then asked again what my project required. I repeated that I needed two 7-by-9-inch pieces. At that point, she did the calculation for me and helped determine how much fabric I needed, which I appreciated. The interaction became upsetting during checkout. Addie asked for my email address to create a store account, and I spelled it out for her. My email address includes my feminine name. Immediately afterward, when she asked for payment, I said, "Oh, I'll pay for hers too," referring to my sister at the adjacent counter. Addie explained that my sister's purchase would have to be a separate transaction because it was on a different iPad, which I completely understood. However, she then told the associate helping my cisgender sister, "He is going to pay for that purchase," referring to me. I am transgender, and being referred to as "he" was deeply upsetting--particularly because I had just spelled out an email address containing my feminine name moments before. I have not experienced being misgendered like that in years. It was difficult not to cry at the counter, but I held back my tears until I had paid for my purchase and left. There was another difference in our checkout experiences that made the interaction even more troubling. When I went to the adjacent counter to pay for my sister's purchase, the associate helping her told me about a new-customer sign-up discount and applied it to that transaction. She then asked whether Addie had applied the same discount to my transaction. I responded, "Not that I'm aware of." At that point, I was still emotional from being misgendered and simply wanted to pay and leave. When I checked my receipts afterward, I confirmed that Addie had not applied the sign-up discount to my transaction, even though she had just taken my email address to create a new account for me. The associate at the neighboring counter apparently expected that discount to have been applied and made sure I received it on my sister's transaction. I cannot know Addie's intentions, and I don't want to make an accusation about someone's motives that I cannot prove. But the combination of her demeanor toward me, being misgendered in front of another employee shortly after I had spelled out an email address containing my feminine name, and then discovering that I did not receive the new-customer discount that the neighboring associate expected me to receive left me feeling that I may have been treated differently. Given the circumstances, it is difficult for me not to wonder whether bias played some role in my experience. That is especially unfortunate because my interactions with the other employees were positive, and this store had been specifically recommended to me by my sewing teacher as I begin learning to sew. I'm sharing my experience so that management is aware of what happened and so that other trans and gender-expansive customers can make an informed decision about shopping here.
