My first experience with Jill Alexander, after reading an article in the local newspaper, was to ask her to design a Mother of the Bride dress for me. I am very tall and curvy so finding a formal dress that complemented my figure and felt comfortable was very difficult. Jill designed the perfect custom dress for me and I've been hooked ever since. That first experience was three years ago and I had been making regulars treks to Jill's design studio to check out her new lines and to visit with Jill and the wonderful staff. I was thrilled when Jill opened her retail store in Scotts Valley! The store beautifully displays Jill's fashions and, because Jill's new design studio is in the back of the store, I still get to see Jill on my shopping visits. Most awful customer service and business practices. Granted that some of their staff are extremely friendly, and they carry some very nice items to buy. But not everyone who works here is nice, and the owner is one of the most condescending small business owners I've seen. When it comes to returns, they use scammy policies, and even go to the extent of profiling you to drive you away. As much as you want to support small businesses during the pandemic, businesses such as these make you cringe about who you might be dealing with. I'm amazed at their utter lack of forethought about losing repeat customers. There's just no dearth of stores or websites that carry great clothes these days! read more

Exceptional selection and quality. I am NOT curvy, but my friend brought me in here. She bought some things, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the MADE IN USA on many items. Plus the fabrics seem to hug the stitching. I hate when materials seem to accent some cheap stitching by accident. I hope she one day designs for more sizes but I get why she doesnt. Don't know where to start on raving about this store. Jill certainly knows how to design for women of all shapes & sizes and her staff is so good about getting you to find something that fits just right. They offer hemming, and if there is a tiny flaw on the garment Jill whips out a machine and makes it perfect. Haven't experienced such fabulous customer service in decades. It's so nice to have a new clothing store open in Scotts Valley when there is so few. I came in on a Saturday and was immediately greeted. The two young ladies were super helpful and nice. You don't get that awesome customer service it seems anymore. I ended up buying two blouses and I look forward to coming back. I was there this past weekend and ended up with a gorgeous purple skirt, a purple blouse, a super gorgeous silver bag and I could have bought one of everything. Her prices are affordable and I wear her 3x skirts and dresses and I am a size 24 pant. LOVE Jill's designs and all of her skirts and tops. I have been wearing Jill Alexander Designs for over 3 years now. Her clothes are beautiful, well made, and hug my curves perfectly. She mainly sells online, but you can make an appointment to go in to her studio in Santa Cruz to try things on. Her staff is super friendly and will make you feel comfortable...something that plus size women aren't often fortunate enough to feel while shopping. Highly recommended! read more
