The sci-fi display, a special display showing books and other media that predicted future events and electronics, was exciting. The gift shop reflected the museum's different themes. In terms of the cost of the memorabilia, the lab kits, books, and stuffed animals were affordable and reinforced what was learned throughout the museum tour.

The Museum is well situated in Old Town and an easy bop over from the shops. In fact, if you visit on a Sunday morning, the museum is free of charge and shares a parking lot with Old Town. You can have your parking validated by the museum and spend some time at both. The permanent exhibits at the museum are expertly organized and there's almost certainly something for everyone. You could easily spend the day learning about local New Mexico artists in many different formats, or enjoy the rotating exhibits. Even if a rotating exhibit doesn't sound particularly interesting, I highly encourage you to check it out. The curator at this museum does an absolutely fantastic job of keeping things engaging. There's a particularly profound permanent piece that I highly encourage one to find, which is a video accompanied by a teeter-totter. And don't miss the sculpture garden outside! The gift shop is worth a stop, too. Many of the museum gift shops that I've stopped in over the years are filled with, well, junk--items largely irrelevant to the visit. The Albuquerque Museum, though, showcases local artisans, local food, and so much more. I almost always leave with something from their Los Poblanos case and a new coffee table book about the southwest. Can't recommend this gem enough!

There was also a box by the entrance with a bunch of rocks. I took a few home as souvenirs. Extremely convenient because I actually love collecting rocks whenever I travel and hike in other places. How cool to find out that Tinkertown was inspired by The House on the Rock! Tinkertown was created by artist Ross Ward. His wife keeps it running to honor his memory and to share his creations. Ross started creating figures out of wood in junior high school! I love the glass bottle walls. Bring some quarters or get them from the cashier for the many moving contraptions throughout the museum. There are hand painted inspirational signs throughout Tinkertown. There's a Western town. There are miniatures. There's an art car. It's filled with so much! I felt giddy at this place just like I did at House on the Rock. It's a place for all ages. Free parking out front.

A nuclear cannon, which could lob a nuclear shell some 20 miles. There are just lots of interesting exhibits like this. The main reason we were here, was because my brother wanted to see what was basically the top half of his former submarine, the USS James K Polk. This was the last submarine he served on before he retired. He was telling me all kinds of neat stories about the sub, and other others heard him talking to me, and he ended up telling quite a few other people about the sub also. There is just so much to see and do in this museum, you could easily spend two or three hours here. The prices are reasonable and they do offer a military/veterans discount. This was cool. Thanks.

This is a New Mexico to do!…read more This site is so cool. It is beautiful to walk around, and there are several tables where you can enjoy a picnic. They have a wonderful gift shop which is filled with handmade goods and gifts. We took the tour, and got to go see the painted Kiva. While they do not allow photos of the paintings, they are worth your time and attention. It was such a cool experience to be able to see them for ourselves. Be sure to wear good clothes for going up and down the ladder. This was a special way to end our New Mexico trip. This is about 20 minutes away from the Albuquerque airport. It was easy to get to and find parking, and we enjoyed our time here.

Window air conditioning units abound. Cars are parked willy-nilly everywhere so there is no way to take a decent photo. The tour was supposed to be at least 45 minutes but the tour guide (not very informative) was shooing us back onto the bus at 25 minutes. The history of the pueblo is interesting but the present-day reality, not so much. Serious disappointment.

The most striking of the Pueblo villages, and perhaps the oldest continuously occupied community in…read morethe USA, is Acoma Pueblo, and more particularly, Sky City. 60 miles west of Albuquerque, N.M., the "People of the White Rock," first established their adobe homes atop this isolated butte 360 feet above the arid plain below sometime in the 12th Century, long before the invading Conquistadors in the 16th Century. A perfect fortress against marauders, the few thousand locals who worked the land below and maintained the hidden stairways and tunnels to the 70 flat acres above, were prosperous farmers and traders with indigenous groups as far away as the Aztec and Mayans in Central America, with established trails from ocean to ocean. For anyone who has visited Israel and climbed Masada overlooking the Dead Sea, Acoma Sky City feels like a brother citadel. The climb is not as long, but the sense of history and humanity is as powerful. You can now take a motorized vehicle to the summit, but that would be cheating you out of a most challenging and unique experience. Go on foot, from narrow stone step to the next; grabbing handholds where strategically placed, and duck down to squeeze through narrow vertical shafts to the next level, until emerging on top where ancient adobe homes and wide dusty plaza greet you. Walk around allowing your imagination to return you to the 14th Century when Acoma was a center of civilization, and you could see 100 miles in all directions from the rim.
