A really big plus point for Harveys is that it was open on a Monday night in October. Mind you they did not have anyone else in the restaurant! The staff were friendly and accommodating but the menu was a little retro and I suspect many things were from the freezer.
The drinks were good value and good tasting - I liked the Exmoor Gold and the wine was apparently good and not like cheap restaurant wine.
The starters were good - I had Whitebait and it was crispy with a good flavour. I had steak for main - it was tasty and reasonably cooked but very thin - it is difficult to get the cooking really right if you have thin steak. Chips were thin and from a pack, the salad was present, onion rings from a pack and the mushrooms were OK - not brilliant. Other mains seemed to follow the theme of tasty enough but not outstanding.
We didn't have any desserts so can't comment on them.
Would I go back? Well of course if I was in Launceston on a Monday night! I would like to go again on a busier night to see what it was really like, it could be much better than we experienced! read more
