Understand that not all meatal roofs are (3' x long lengths) sheets that look like long sheets of roofing. Nothing wrong with that but SMR sells and installs metal roofing that looks like traditional shingle/shaker roofing......but it lasts forever! Literally, "The last roof you'll ever need". Mike's crew of 7 men; (yes subcontracted), were on time, courteous, and worked 3 hard 14+ hour days as they raced the weather. Communication was never an issue and they let me know every day when they were going to be there and what they were going to try to accomplish that day. We were amazed how smooth this went as storms wandered through! We left our doors open as we got a 'good feel' from their lead that they were trustworthy from the moment they showed up. I'm not sure if they used our bathrooms, etc but if so, they left it cleaner than they found it if they did! Awesome, awesome group of guys with a great sense of humor! Our trust was not misplaced! Mike checked with us everyday.... many, many times ... to make sure everything was going well. Honestly, he was so concerned and between Mike, Mary and Jose, it was kinda overkill. To be fair, I got the feeling before we bought that this is the type of company they run, so if you go with them, expect a fair amount of contact from beginning to end. The project we did remodeled a huge section of our kitchen and dining room building a second story even. They helped us through every step of the project. From the initial design estimates, to iterating on our ideas and providing feedback, to helping select trims and finish, and then building the entire extension. They were always patient with us when we needed more time to think about the project, but they were always immediately responsive when we needed their input. They are certainly a premium contractor, but for a project of that scale, it was not something that we could have ever hoped to accomplish on our own. It certainly made sense for us to pick a excellent contractor who would be prepared for every scenario. And that is what we got with Frey. With a project of this size, I think common knowledge would cause the average person to assume that there would be substantial delays and setbacks. but the entire time we worked with Frey, there from the day they broke ground to the day it was done, they didn't slip a single deadline. Their staff was always incredibly professional. The subcontractors that they worked with were top notch. You could tell that the people who were here working on our home really cared about the project and wanted to make it good and make it right, and they would redo parts of it if they weren't done correctly. we really appreciated the attention to detail. There were many times when I thought that they went above and beyond to help make the remodeling project go smoothly. Notably, they helped move all of our appliances and counter surfaces into our living room so that we could continue to live out of our living room while our entire kitchen was being demoed and remodeled. It wasn't work that they needed to do, but they were more than happy to help. If we ever needed to do another large scale remodeling project, they would be the first people we would call.

From our experience though, I could have done a better job myself. Basically, our guy showed up on time (yeah! good start) but was very unhappy and quite dirty for the start of the day. We asked him to trim up a small bathroom as we just got new floors and wanted to replace the trim. The guy took forever, got dirty handprints all over the place and did quite an average job with the trim. Holes weren't plugged up and areas near doors and tight corners were done with shortcuts. To the company's credit - we did complain about our experience and they did give us a discount on the bill. I'm sure they have other areas that they excel in as well. . . but if you need trim work done, I'd probably look somewhere else.

LENGTHY REVIEW STARTS HERE: It took over a year and a half and meeting with 15 roofing companies to finally find the right company for my job: The Exteriors Company. My house has a modern/Frank Lloyd Wright kinda vibe - lots of different roof sections and pitches. A majority of the first 15 contractors that bid on my roof repair wanted to sell me a new roof. The problem with my roof was a design flaw and a new roof would have eventually led to more water in my house. This was confirmed by an architect. If you look at the before and after photo, you can see how ridiculous the design was. We had water coming into our house anytime it rained and when the snow melted. It was awful. We were lucky enough to have Ryan (the owner of The Exteriors Company) come look at our roof. The first thing he said after climbing on to the roof was, "You need to redo this whole area," confirming what we already knew. That was the first clue that we found a good roofing contractor. After talking in person and over email with Ryan and getting the contract for the project, we knew we found the right company. Ryan was so communicative. He reached out regularly through the repair process. We had four different teams (framing, roofing, siding and gutters) work on our repair. We were notified in advance when to expect each team. Then each team project manager reached out via text a day or two before and the day of their work. Each team was on time and did beautiful work.
