Hatch Show Print is a historic Nashville-based letterpress shop founded in 1879 that creates iconic, hand-carved posters for musicians and entertainment events. Located inside the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, it operates as a working museum using vintage wood/metal type to create posters for modern artists, preserving 20th-century Southern visual culture. I purchases a few postcards at their pop-up shop and took a look at the shop through their huge glass windows. The also sell online of which I went back for a Johnny Cash poster and a few themed ones that spoke to me. Unfortunately, their 2026 calendar sold out, so maybe next year? read more

On our second full day in Nashville, we had a tour of Hatch Show Print, a print shop which was founded in 1879. It's a very famous print shop that prints posters for musicians, sports teams, and everything in between, but we had never heard of it. The print shop is currently located in the same building as the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and we discovered the print gift shop the day before, as we walked through the side entrance of the building instead of the main entrance to get to the museum, although we didn't realize at the time the significance and history of the print shop, or that there were tours available. We found out about the tour (and the existence of the print shop) when we went to purchase our tickets for the museum. At the ticket desk, there was a sign with the prices of museum tickets and print shop tours, and the very friendly museum employee asked us if we knew about the print shop, which we didn't. We didn't have time for a tour of the print shop the same day we went to the museum, but fortunately we were able to purchase tickets for the next day. The cost of the tour was $23US, and the tour was about an hour. They tell you about the history of the print shop and the printing technique used (letter press printing, no more than three runs through the press), and then you have the opportunity to "print" your own mini souvenir poster (the first two layers/colors are already done, and you put the poster through the press for the third round, adding the last color). What's really cool is that every year they have a different souvenir poster, so they sort of become collectors' items, and getting a mini poster is worth the cost of the tour. The majority of the tour, where they explain the history of the print shop and the printing technique, and where you print your poster, takes place in a room covered in posters. After the talk, they allow ample time for you to take photos of all the posters. I absolutely loved the tour, and it was one of the highlights of my trip to Nashville. We had never heard of Hatch Show Print, and we were thrilled to discover it. If you go to Nashville, a tour of the print shop is an absolute must. What a cool experience! 1. I love watching videos of letterpress printing and this tour was a great introduction to the art. 2. You meet in front of the shop before an employee takes you to a back room. The first part of the tour is a bit of a history lesson on Hatch Show Print and the letterpress printing process. During this time, you'll also get a chance to finish a print of your own using the letterpress - talk about a great souvenir. The next part of the tour takes place in front of the shop where you peek in and get a rundown of the different parts of the workshop. 3. The shop itself has a variety of printed items ranging from posters to greeting cards to stickers, all at fair prices. I grabbed a few greeting cards and they were buy 2 get 1 free! 4. Hatch is a smallish store located on the bottom floor of the Country Music Hall of Fame but it is far more than that. For well over 100 years, Hatch has made and continues to make the posters you see everywhere in Nashville and for good reason: they are fantastic. Sure, you can and should check out the gift shop but I highly, HIGHLY recommend taking the hour or so long tour. You will learn about the history of Hatch and also about how the posters are physically made. We even got to make our own small poster. It is a very unique tour and something truly different than most other tours. You can also watch the employees literally making the posters next door to the shop. They also offer a tour, which you can book through the Country Music Hall of Fame. For the tour, you meet in the hallway between Hatch Show Print and the Country Music Hall of Fame and surrounding shops. Your tour guide comes to meet you a few minutes before your scheduled tour. After a quick introduction you walk through the gift shop to a classroom where you hear about the history of the letterpress poster shop. After that, you get to print your own Hatch Show Printing poster with the help of the staff. Once everyone has their posters and you've looked at the posters all around the room you proceed back to the hallway to learn more about how the shop is set up and what tools they use to make prints in house. The tour lasts approximately one hour. Our guides were friendly and very knowledgeable about the history and print process. We signed up for the Hatch Show Print tour on our recent trip to Nashville and this was one of the highlights of the trip! The tour started off going into a back rooom of Hatch Show Print to lear more about the history of the print shop and to dive into the world of old-style printing. The guides were informative and added some nice humor into the mix and the room you were in to start off the tour was perfect as you were surrounded by examples of the print jobs Hatch Show Print has completed over the years. All on the tour were able to do a rolled print of their own which provided a hands-on experience to the tour which was pretty cool! After the initial stop, tour members then left the back room and went to the front of the shop where more information was provided about the printing process, the history of Hatch and some of the work that was taking place right in front of your eyes while on the tour. As you walk through the Country Music Hall of Fame there are many walls that display the posters created by the Hatch Museum. if you eve want to see how they make them, stop on by the Hatch Show Print. One of the only print shops still doing to by hand the old school way. Tour lasts about 60 minutes and you can walk away with your own small poster you got to print yourself. You get to see tons of the original show posters, you get a little history, and you get to see their shop where they're printing posters for current bands, comedians and other clients. You get to experience the process yourself by making your own print to take home! If you don't do the tour, you can still see employees printing in the shop from the gift shop and the windows in the lobby (it's in the building with the Country Music Hall of Fame.) The old style printing press on display is cool and they have some awesome poster prints. The shop also has merchandise for pets, kids, and art lovers. Really enjoyed this Off the cuff museum. It's located inside the same building as country música hall of fame, and you can get your tickets there or online. The tour itself is small groups, so you get bang for your buck. If you are an artist, graphic designer, history buff or into marketing, you have to go to Hatch Show Print. I did not realize how much I would enjoy/nerd out during this experience until I was there. This historic and active print shop was the absolute highlight of my time in Nashville. It is currently located in the Country Music Hall of Fame. You are able to do a guided tour of the shop. The tour is about an hour long. You will meet in the lobby outside the shop at the sign under the grand staircase. First you'll be taken into the classroom space. Here you will learn about letter press techniques, the incredibly rich history of Hatch Show Print and make your own letter press poster on their historic machines. The newest machine in their shop is from the 1950s! All other machines are older than that and still in use. Then they will walk you out to the active print shop where you get to see their printing artists working and learn more about their history. It will close out in their gallery that shows of their work as well as the work of visiting artists who use their space and equipm The tour is absolutely worth it. It is only $20 and is honestly a much bigger value than that. You can see other work the print shop has done at the Ryman Auditorium (another great stop by the way!) Their linked history and being able to see both spaces in a week really enhanced my experience. The shop is full of unique and interesting pieces. You are met by your guide in front of the Hatch store. A 30 minute presentation in the rear of the store includes the amazing history of the print process, the family and Nashville. You then have the opportunity to print your own Hatch Show Print to take home with you! Next you tour the exterior of the actual workshop where current posters are printing. Next a quick stop in the gallery. Your tour ticket gives you a 10% discount in the store for cards, posters and t-shirts. This was fun! I got a tour as a part of a package with the Country Music Museum, RCA Victor Studio B, and Hatch Show Print. I originally looked at RCA Victor Studio B for the tour then I found the others. Hatch Show Print was informative and interesting about the history of the business and how printing works. You get to "print" your own poster. Don't get excited though. There is no imagination when it comes to this poster. You don't get to design it (like I did when I was in a summer class in school). You get to put the ink on and roll it. That was the biggest disappointment because I was thinking we'd be able to design one for fun... expectations. Anyway, super interesting. The tour gets you a discount in the store and gallery. I bought an art poster of a trumpet. I highly recommend coming by here for the tour! read more

Great tour that I highly suggest! We grabbed the last one available, around 5 pm. I think we paid about 30 bucks. The tour starts out in the original printing room, which is still being used today ! You get to hear word for word fact by fact how Nashville to prints poster and event posters for artists today. They are well spoken and very knowledgeable in the process, since the tour guides print themselves! Ps you get to make your own print and take it home! You'll move over into the hallway to get a clear view of the printing section. We were lucky to see 1 person hard at work. Lastly, head over to the front for a quick tour of the musuem. This tour was amazing! This was just included in our pass so we did it because of that. We came in with no expectations and it was great. You first go in a back room where you make your own poster and learn about the history. The room is filled with posters of all kinds of famous people that you will recognize. You then go look at the machines and the people that are making the posters(fascinating process). The tour guides were great with great service. I didn't pay full price but I believe it is an extra 20 dollars onto the country hall of fame museum. Highly recommend this tour to anyone in Nashville whether you like music or not. Lived here for a discernible amount of time? You probably have something from Hatch Show Print in your home. I have three prints: one was gifted to me as a housewarming present and it hangs in my bedroom. The other two adorn my living room walls and I get sincere joy out of looking at all three. So, when it came time to buy a farewell present to some very dear friends who are leaving the city, I knew exactly where I needed to go to find something 100% Nashville, would look nice and would speak to them. Walking around the shop, I was almost overwhelmed. There's a ton (about 140 years worth) of inventory to consider. They have a wall of best sellers but it's worth it to dig around some and find something that's a bit rarer -- although there's nothing wrong with a tried & true favorite. After some looking (and, if I'm being honest, some browsing for myself), I found what I was looking for. I was about to head to check out when I got the bright idea to look for a card to go with. Their presses are fun to see and the shop has a tour that people can do. The Ryman and the Grand Ole Opry use them to do their concert posters so the hatch show print posters can be found for sale there as well. Many other businesses use Hatch Show Print to do their posters as well, such as Vanderbilt University. I love love Hatch. I first visited it when it was in it's old location. I'm a crazy cat lady, so naturally my souvenir from Nashville was a print featuring the Hatch Cats. Returning to the area to visit, I told my friend I definitely wanted to return. She showed me their new location, which is bigger and includes a tour. We didn't do the tour, since it was easy to see all the gears and machinery through the glass window, which was enough for me. I hear that only one cat is still around, but that he still lives at the store, which made me happy. I bought another of their cat related prints, but had I not already purchased Christmas presents for loved ones, I probably would've picked up more prints to take home. Located inside the Country Hall of Fame Museum, we did an add on with the Hatch Show Print Tour. We were taken into a small room filled with old and new posters. It was really neat to see posters from your favorite artists, old businesses and so many more. The tour itself was a bit slow and dull. Many stories were told about the makings of the posters however, it was pretty monotone and therefore, did not make the tour worth it. When my friend from Austin came to visit me in Nashville, she asked that we tour Hatch Show Print! I hadn't even heard of it, but I added it to the list! Located within the Country Music Hall of Fame, you can tour Hatch Show Print daily at 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30. We went to the 3:30 tour on a Saturday. I bought our tickets a few days ahead of time! Good thing, because the tour did sell out! So get your tickets online! The tour includes a 15-30 minute discussion by a Hatch Show Print employee of how the print shop worked in the past and how it works now (you're in the print shop, but they don't allow you to walk around the shop as the machines are still in use)! After that, they take you into the "classroom," where they discuss the history of the print shop further, show examples of work throughout the shop's history, and help you make your own print to take home with you! Plus you can see the historic printing press and when I came in on Saturday they had live music too! If you've been to a show at the Ryman and forgot to grab a hatch print from the show, any leftovers that were not sold (if you are lucky, most sell out at the show) are brought back to Hatch Show Print and offered at a discount price. Want something specific for your house, an event, or wedding? They do custom orders too. Stop in if you are out and about on Broadway during business hours, and if you have out of towners wanting a souvenir, this is the perfect place for them! This place is awesome! We stumbled upon it while at the Country Music Hall of Fame. They are affiliated and they happen to have a children's event that day that was amazing! It was a print class where the kids could use all of the print equipment to make their own posters. It was free and very full, but we luckily got in. The instructors were great and really knew what they were doing. They were also great with the kids and mine had a great time. They made prints of all sizes and even used the roller print tool. It was cool to see how this was done back in the day and we really felt like we were part of the history. On a normal time, this place would be cool to just tour as well. read more
