Hail is the only oddities store I know of in the Metro Nashville area (if you know another, let me know). And there is a lot of odd stuff in here. A mixture of occult, medical equipment and goth types of goods, with a touch of taxidermy. The star of the show, to me, is the taxidermy room. Not something I would purchase, but fun to look at. The first time I came, there was a racoon they called rocket that looked like he was flipping people off with both hands (Guardians of the Galaxy?). This time, we opted to go into the museum as a two-4-one ($5/person normally) - a benefit of conversing with people? Back here are some items that they can't sell due to regulations, as well as some oddities they would not want to part with. There is also a collection from Jason Marsden, including his death mask and a few items from the movie Mars Attacks. I find myself drawn to this store each time I am over here. While some of the collection is fairly static, there is always something new and weird to find. read more

Candle/ crystal selection is pretty limited, but they make good use of such a small space. But why I won't return is because of the lack of any customer service- unless you're a young goth girl then the older guy at the counter won't greet or talk to you. I had to approach him about a product and was given a small answer with no additional help. Only when he realized my husband and I were spending over 500 dollars on some overpriced taxidermy did he even seem to acknowledge us. The young single girls that came in received a very different customer service experience. read more

Super interesting store that's perfect for people looking for cool/weird/dark oddities. This place is truly the epitome of the "you can find anything and everything here" phrase. VHS tape artwork, haunting taxidermy, skulls, things preserved in little jars, candles, t-shorts, books... i mean quite literally EVERYTHING. I ended up only buying a shirt as a souvenir for visiting but maybe one day I'll get the guts to purchase a true dark aesthetic piece. Totally worth the visit looking around at everything! read more

This was a super cool place to visit! Tons of creepy stuff, taxidermy, antiques, vintage clothes, etc. I managed to find some old funeral pamphlets from the freemasons, so that was cool! I'm giving 4 stars because the pricing is very strange to me. Most of the stuff is WAY overpriced. I paid $20 for each pamphlet (both were damaged, which should have reduced the price), which I could have gotten for $5-$10 at another antique shop easily. Most other things had this drastic markup as well. I understand that specialty shops like this need to keep their prices a little high to pay for their central location and the fees that come with it. But the pricing is simply outrageous IMO. Some things are obviously worth more than others, but a 3oz candle for $25? I'll pass. This is definitely an awesome place to visit, and I recommend it to anyone in/visiting Nashville that enjoys the creepier side of life! But, as a place to buy antiques/visit multiple times, it's very pricy for what the items are worth. read more

I love the stuff Hail, Dark Aesthetics. However, I am only giving one star due to the rude worker at the front of the register. My husband and I came inside to patronize the shop and were excited to buy some creepy and cute souvenirs. My husband was carrying a water bottle from the outside and asked if they had a trash can. The lady very rudely stated, "Are you only in here for the trash can?" or something along those sorts. Though this is a really cool and unique store, I don't think the customer service is acceptable. read more

There's a full skeletal spine peaking out the door. It's hazy. A little bit like an attic on the ground floor. A wall lined with some nicely executed taxidermy pieces. My favorites include the raccoon rump and the on-looking squirrel. If I could have splurged... either would be the start to an amazing collection, but no. Taxidermy isn't in my scope of interests. Maybe it should? The unicorn, baboon, and jackalope are equally worthwhile. My love holds in skeletons, bones, and things in murky jars. All of which Hail, DA doesn't disappoint. Boney dream catchers to Victorian hair wreaths all of which are gorgeous. They have a small dental collection and dermatology slides.Their collection also has a few neat gaffs and inspired clothing that fits their aesthetic. The staff seems stylish and young too. My only lament is the price on a few items makes me wonder if they're really that rare. Granted I'd happily be fine with a majority of their askings, but a few items made me laugh at how seemingly overpriced they were, mostly animal skulls of the common variety or things I'd have spotted and purchased at similar markets for 1/8th the price shown here. To sum it up, the unique pieces are probably worth it, but if you're like me just collecting bones in boxes... keep memo of your inventory. The easier to acquire items are worth shopping around for. I don't know much about their previous location, but they seem to have done very well in creating an atmosphere all their own in this new space. These people are so rude and inconsiderate. At first I thought I was there on an off day but my second and final visit was sadly the same. If it wasn't bad enough this place is such an obvious 5th rate knock off of that show Oddities but its a sad millennial failure. The staff just stood around and offered zero help or hospitality with a "too cool for the room" vibe. I dont know how this place stays open. Once their target hipster demographic visits theyll see its not really that dark and little more than a redneck state fair spook house. read more

I love me a good oddities shop. This one isn't bad, and I can't knock them too hard for what they're doing. I made my review a 4-star because they don't have as much as another location I've been to, and because the prices can be a bit steep. Overall, though, a cool shop to browse around. Oddities, as the name implies, encompasses the weird, unusual, macabre, and the blatantly strange. What you may not hear is that it's also delightful, fun, and sometimes beautiful. This shop had a little bit of everything: taxidermy creatures, skeletons, occult goods, old medical equipment, etc. I'm quite certain you'll find something that makes you take pause, something that peers into you, and something you can't leave without. I really enjoy unusual things or places, and this caught my eye as I was driving down Gallatin last weekend. My curiosity piqued, I stopped in on my way home. The place is pretty open, and looks like a cross between an old attic and a mad scientist's laboratory. If you love taxidermy, some of it a little bit creepier and weirder than your average stuffed deer head, look no further! They've got it all! There are also jars of fetal pigs and what I think was a fetal goat, but I really couldn't tell. The harlequin fetuses in jars were the best, I thought. I was also fascinated by all the old dental tools and molds they had in a case. Skeletons are popular here, with several on the wall and different models and authentic skeletons alike are seen throughout the store. Be warned, most of that cool and creepy stuff isn't cheap, so maybe not the best choice for next year's Halloween decor. They've also got a section of vintage clothing, and a smattering of metal and other music of the darker persuasion on vinyl. I noticed some jewelry in one corner as well. And, if you've always wanted your own confession booth, you're in luck, because they've got one! read more

This place is THE BOMB. They have awesome stuff! The entire aesthetic of the store is authentically dark. Being a secret lover of taxidermy, they had quite the unique selection. My brother and I were in here for over an hour just looking at all the cool trinkets. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it's high quality stuff. You're getting what you pay for, especially since majority of the stuff is handmade by local artists. If you're in the Nashville area, I suggest stopping by here just to get a kick out of the curiosities they have to offer. I promise you'll leave with a sense of wonder ;) read more

The plastic doll head sitting upon the front entrance beam was just a small indication of what was awaiting me on the other side of your storefront. I choked through the burning incense that came billowing toward me as I opened your front door & gasped out aloud as my eyes adjusted to the darkness upon your black walls. While some of your content was entertaining (ie. your bat collection, the raccoon & skunk purses & the snake vertebrae bracelets), other pieces were downright disturbing (ie. the various roadkill pieces, which were so dead I wasn't able to determine what they had been when alive). Who in their right mind would pick this up off the side of the road & think it would be a good idea to try to sell it? Who would buy it?! I was so aghast at the sights you held, I skipped right over your vintage clothing selection- please don't hold that against me, I'll try to check that out next time. I admit I'm not brave enough to be alone after-hours in your confines, or to walk down that little hallway at the back of your store (where did it lead? was it a dressing room? Was there something even more creepy to be seen down there?) but I thoroughly enjoyed browsing your peculiarities during business hours. Great shop for oddities in Nashville. The owners are quite friendly and helpful. I'd recommend at least a trip to see some of their items even if you're not looking to buy anything.
