I'm not a guitar player but my husband is, but I do like looking at these beautiful instruments so I tagged along with him when he took his pilgrimage to the garage. What a cool space! If you're a guitar player you'll get WAY more out of the experience, drooling over all the amazing offerings and maybe even playing a few, too! Electric, acoustic, vintage, new bodies, etc. They're sectioned into different spaces based on type and a very cool conveyor belt moves them through the showroom along the perimeter of the ceiling, too. Very flashy! They're very serious about care here, too The acoustics are in a separate, humidity controlled room. That's where my husband spent most of his time as he's been considering buying a new one. The tech was awesome and let him play a variety of options to help him narrow it down. They also have a ton of accessories, amps, bits and bobs you need to keep your investment in top shape. And they also have some fun souvenirs like tees, mugs, books, etc. And there's a fun stage where they'll have in store performances every so often, too. After a while I kind of lost my steam since I'm not super familiar with the merchandise but they staff there is awesome and we had a great time chatting and they kept me wonderfully entertained while my husband made his rounds. First off, when walking in the store watching a huge amount of Gibson guitars moving overhead on a carousel conveyor system holding nearly 200 guitars that rotate above the showroom. The associate explained to me the displays on the floor are on rollers that can be moved for live performances and yes it has a stage, this place is very cool and their people are very friendly and knowledgeable about their store. I couldn't get myself to play any instrument because it was so overwhelming for me to even think on what I would want to play, next time I visit I need to have an idea of what I'm looking for. The Gibson garage is such a cool experience, whether you're a tourist or a local. I'm not a guitar player but regardless, the shop is quite the spectacle. Over 200 guitars are hung rotating around the main shop room, a super cool feature. There are separate areas for custom builds, acoustics, historic and various types of guitars and equipment. This is a cool place just minutes away from downtown Nashville. We were in town for a concert and had some time to spare, so our guitar playing son suggested we drop in. They sell new guitars as well as used gear. The staff is very knowledgeable. They can help you find the perfect instrument for your price range, or assist with repairs. It was cool that you can try out a guitar. They also offer lessons. There is even a custom shop where you can pick out your wood, your finish, your pickups, and your knobs. Came in for a private event and it was a blast! From the moment we entered, I was in love- the literal rainbow know of gorgeous guitars hanging on a belt slowly circling the giant lobby was incredible. The private tour was fantastic as well- we got to see the green room, the "secret vault," and some amazing HISTORICAL guitars worth way more than my house. The staff was so friendly and fun. Go play guitars to your heart's content, watch live acts on the intimate stage, buy Gibson swag, and check out all the guitar brands. To be honest, all guitars look the same to me. So I didn't expect much when I visited the Gibson Garage in Nashville. But after touring the shop and hearing about the history of the guitars, I left with a new appreciation for Gibson guitars and the people who play them. I learned that this location is one of only two places in the world where you can come into the shop and customize your very own Gibson guitar. It's either here in Nashville or in London, England. It makes sense that one of those places is right here in Music City. If you don't care to build a customized guitar, they have an abundance of guitars, all shiny and new, ready and waiting for you to pick up and take home. There's even a conveyor belt, strung with glossy guitars of all styles and colors, that float single-file above your head throughout the store. Gibson fans will also find every kind of guitar accoutrement you can think of, plus a large selection of Gibson t-shirts and other clothing. From time to time, Gibson Garage hosts bands that play on their stage inside the store. They also offer their space for events. I was lucky to get a sneak peek into the back area of the store, where musical artists chill out before and after their performances, or just when they stop by the store. If you like guitars....This is definitely a destination you want to visit on your trip to Nashville. Great selection of electric and acoustics. You can custom make a guitar with oodles of options: You want a 59 burst with a 60s slim neck no prob. You can select pickups, finishes...yatta yatta yatta. They also carry mesa boogie which they purchase a while back. I came to see the Murphy Lab guitars. They have their own little section and they are pretty amazing. Seriously even if you don't care much of guitars the place is quite the trip to experience. Tip: If you're guitar shopping start here and work you way to Carter Vintage, Rumble Seat and finish up at Gruhn's......it is basically a straight line and about a mile to walk. read more

I was in Nashville with family and did the Gibson Garage tour, went into the Gibson vault and leaned a lot of Gibson history, which was very interesting. The guy that did the tour with us was excellent! He let me play many guitars and it was great. I had a magical time, so why the 1 star review? DON'T PURCHASE A GUITAR THERE. You will be distracted by everything and may not inspect everything as well as you should. I purchased a 1957 Reissue Les Paul and an SJ200 Acoustic. They said they would do a set up on my Les Paul and put new strings on the SJ200. They did not do a set up on my Les Paul. When I received it, I had a hard time keeping in tune, so I brought it to a guitar luthier I use. He is also an authorized Gibson repair center. He said the neck was all dried out and needed to be conditioned. He showed me how the intonation was out and there was rust on the bridge and said they clearly did not do a setup. My SJ200, has a bump on the neck higher up on the fret board and they never changed the strings. Within 2 weeks of playing my SJ200, the strings were dead. I called Gibson to tell them and was told that the manager would call me back. I never heard back from Gibson! I recommend visiting but don't purchase a guitar there. read more

Bought some merch, looked at guitars and I was able to ask the techs some specific questions to particular years and parts. All and all we spent about an hour looking at the Kramers, Epiphones, Gibsons and acoustic guitars. They did not have every model on display like the Epiphone Inspired By Gibson Les Paul Custom or the Gibson Les Paul Axcess Custom w/Floyd Rose which was hugely disappointing. However they did have plenty of other options and it is definitely worth the price of admission which is free. read more

The staff at the Gibson Garage is excellent! 5 stars! Helpful, but there is a huge disconnect between them and the repair/factory. HOWEVER...never, never, NEVER send your old Gibson to the repair center unless it is worth tens of thousands. They don't want to work on anything that is less than $5000. AND after 8 weeks without an estimate, I called for the 3rd time (I had emailed twice), they supposedly had sent an estimate email to an address that wasn't even an email address. They previously told me my guitar was only worth 2800, but the estimate was 4000. WTF?! I had 3 private luthiers tell me not to pay more than $500 for that particular repair. I (stupidly) thought since it was a vintage Gibson, Gibson would be the best to work on it. If they only want to work on high dollar stuff, why not come clean at the beginning so that I would not have had to wait for NOTHING! I guess you are targeting tourists?! Ugh... Came to the Gibson garage to get some guitar picks for my boyfriend's dad. Wanted ones that said Nashville on them so I called in advance to make sure they had some in store. The storeperson said they give them away to visitors for free which was awesome. Upon entering the store, it appears to be more like a museum with curated installations. There's lots to explore and they are well staffed too. This is a great place to stop by if you need a free experience or just want some cold AC everyone is so friendly too. Only cons I would say is that they are quite far from broadway and there's not much parking in this area. All parking is paid parking too. Something to add on if you're visiting the gulch or the museum across the street. read more

I am a guitar enthusiast and stopped in with my family to check the place out while I was in Nashville. It's a neat place with a lot of potential, but it was more like visiting a museum than a guitar shop. Even though the guitars there are for sale, the majority of instruments are on a moving conveyor way above the floor so you can't admire them up close. The rest are locked up so you can handle them at all. To make matters worse, there was an armed security guard hovering over us almost the entire time (there weren't many people in there at the time so I guess I got most of the attention). Every time I picked up a piece of (mostly overpriced) merch to look at, there he was with an eagle eye making sure I didn't steal anything. It got to the point that I picked out a couple of stickers to buy and left because I was tired of being scrutinized by an armed security officer the entire time. The staff at the checkout were friendly though, so there's that. In short, the place has so much potential, but overall I found it to be a disappointment. If you're into guitars, there's no opportunity to admire the pieces in stock. If you're looking for history, there's not really anything there to speak of. read more

Being a Gibson and Mesa fan, I stopped by to check this place out. It turns out its a very anemic tourist trap, not an actual music shop catering to musicians. You have some very cool amps and guitars here. But you cant actually plug in and hear them properly. You are limited to just listening through really cheesy headphones... Complete with the ear and head sweat from the people that previously used them. Eww... Playing the amps and guitars through a pathetic-sounding headphone output is total disservice to the level of gear on display. You don't really get to hear how any of the gear actually sounds. Its really pathetic. Gibson loves showing their disdain for their customers in myriad of ways. This just seems like another. Just go to any other music store and you will get a better experience with the same gear. This is just a shallow tourist trap. A glorified display shop. read more
