The sandwich was tough to chew and very light on meat and cheese. You're essentially paying a premium for bread. Everything tasted fine, just pretty basic. For the price and crowd size, I expected more. The staff seemed stretched thin, and the value just wasn't there. Good for a quick bite if you're nearby and patient, but temper your expectations.

They have dining in a small section upstairs and some seating downstairs, and they ask you to wait until you're called to come get your food so it doesn't hold up the line since it's a small entryway. I think they had a bathroom, but I didn't use it. Like I said, don't except much from the food here, my sandwich had maybe a slice of cheese and one tomato in it and the rest was all bread/baguette. On the walls, behind the counter, next to you, behind you... everywhere you look... puppets! This cafe was my favorite find on a recent trip to St Malo where too many tourist traps abound. La Java is an original joint, the real deal where the owner runs his shop with a good dose of humor and booze. Sit down, relax and don't take anything too seriously. There are two ways to get here, you can either drive up or hike up... of course I took the hike route. On a scale from 1-5 I would say the hike was about a 4, a little intense but lots of shade. The cafe was simply amazing, it has the most amazing Views all around, it is beautifully set up with great decor inside and outside. The staff here was so nice and very welcoming, I had no idea what to order and I just wanted something small so they advised me on with was good. Also looking around seeing what everyone else had on there plates and everything just looked so fresh and delicious. Just an FYI They accept there currency for payment along with debit and credit. P. Didn't expect too much and thought it was expensive (given the fact it is in St Helier and this particular neighbourhood), but nope - decent prices that can beat any London Starbucks! Went there three times for breakfast/snack, had a decent coffee, homemade smoothie and a cheese toastie, for under a tenner! That's a hell of a deal, and tasted good! Yum!
