I am VERY VERY upset with hatteras realty, we have rented from them 3 times everytime was good until this time. were currently at BEACH HAVEN, and the house was dirty when we got here. The ceilings have mold on them.. we found bed bugs in the room down stairs.. and I cant believe the kids got head lice... I am outraged and very dissapointed , we saved up all year for this ! And when we got here the people who supposedly cleaned left a envelope saying the browns cleaned give to them and the lord will give to you... like thats not there job .and they tried to use the lord to get paid extra....if they do not do somthing about this they will loose a great client for ever , and have this review so everyone can see this was not a vacation but a pain and suffering.. if they do somthing to better our stay I might take this off if its worth it..but as of right now, DO NOT!!!! waste your time with hatteras realty, TRUST ME.... go somewere else if you been working all year for a vacation home.. they deserve 0 stars but I had to give one star to leave a review.. read more

Walked into a rental house called Dixie Arrow this weekend and found dishwasher was broken, leaked water all over kitchen floor, and all the glassware and dishes were filthy. Been washing dishes by hand for nine fisherman the past three days after Hatteras Realty essentially told us "there's nothing we can do." After several calls and emails, they've proven to me that they DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PROPERTIES OR THEIR CUSTOMERS. They gave us absolutely zero consideration. Our group has used them for 24 straight years. Never again. read more

We stayed here in January last year. We intentionally asked for a place for a hot tub, but when we arrived the tub had been "winterized". After many days of saying they would do so, they absolutely refused to repair our hot tub or move us to a different house. They then promised us a substantial refund in exchange for the broken tub, but when we went to check out they claimed that they had no idea what we were talking about. We also had problems with the house smelling like cigarettes and finding sand burrs in the furniture and carpet. We come here all the time but they will be losing our business from now on. I hope the homeowners who use this company will reconsider. read more

We stayed at North Shore house, 26136 North Sand Dollar Court, Salvo the first week of July. It is the first year Hatteras Realty has managed the property. The pictures were obviously taken in better times. The house had the features we were looking for and we had a good time in spite of the ant problem because that's what we do. Hatteras Realty was responsive, but the place was filthy and infested with ants, as in they are living in the upholstered furniture and cabinets, etc. They were all over the floors on all 3 levels as well as in the kitchen, dressers on and in drawers, beds, bathroom cabinets, closets and on any of our toiletries left on bathroom countertops. The cleaning crew missed the cat litter, cat food and dead frog in one of the bedrooms. There were a number of maintenance items that were going to be addressed, by our choice, after our departure - broken screens, missing toilet paper holders etc. The owners, two Chiropractors from New Jersey, should be ashamed. The place has likely not been thorough cleaned in years, but the service was offered to them by the realty company for a fee. They have obviously done no regular extermination/pest control and our people were being bitten in their beds and living room furniture. There was old food accumulated between the stove and countertop, the oven has possibly never been cleaned. There was mold around the glass shelves in the refrigerator. There was no outdoor lighting by the pool, just bare wires. Hatteras did send someone out to install one. By the end of the week we were unable to use the kitchen due to ant infestation in the kitchen cabinets and drawers. The owners were totally non responsive. Hatteras Realty offered a reimbursement for our inconvenience due to infestation in the kitchen rendering it unusable, however, we have seen nothing to date. 8/18/17. read more

Do not use this firm, or go by the reviews on their website. They do not include negative reviews, nor do they respond to negative feedback. The house was dirty when we arrived, it had been given a surface clean (and that is being kind). Kitchen cabinets had never been wiped on the outside, full of stains and drips. Hair in the bathrooms, air filter had not been changed in years. Bad mould in the main bathroom due to ancient shower door that leaked water all over the floors. Washer/dryer had problems - dryer air vent had never been cleaned to the outside (which was why it would take 4 cycles to dry 3 towels) and there was a huge lint pile in a corner outside the front door where the vent was placed, to prove it. Sliding doors to outdoors required a strong adult to push closed as they were so old and the tracks so dirty. Jacuzzi cover was broken. Bathroom mats and bedspreads were dirty- when asked Hatteras Realty manger Janet, admitted they never washed them. The place was VERY well worn, and dirty. We had to have a cleaning crew come in when we arrived to re-clean. Room fans looked like they had never been dusted given the long strands that were hanging off them when we arrived, and even the cleaning crew were disgusted. We reported everything with photos to Hatteras Realty, and spent long periods of time waiting for Janet (office manager), who kept us waiting when we came to complain, promised to get back to us and did not, and finally on our last day when we insisted on seeing her again, she offered us a free linen package if we booked another vacation with Hatteras! To reiterate all of the previous comments, do not waste your money. While the views and beaches were fantastic the home was not. Filthy does not begin to describe it. Dead bugs and droppings, filthy furniture and mattresses, moldy smell coming from the sink, lawn not maintained, nails popping up out of the decking, mold and rotting on drywall and trim, no working screens on windows, I could go on and on. There were 3 ancient brooms in the house, none of which were effective at cleaning up anything. Very disappointing and these home owners need to re-evaluate their management system. read more

We love Hatteras realty and have rented from them for over twenty years, a different house each year, some are better then others but always ok and if you don't like sand and laid back folks stay up north ! Best vacation rental company on Hatteras Island!

I'm currently staying at Cape Escape, in Avon. This place is wonderful. Clean, well appointed and the maintenance man replaced the sprayer on the outside hose, without my even asking. I would rent this again and refer any of my friends. One issue that I look to see be resolved before I leave. I prepaid for two weeks in early April and cancelled the second week soon after. According to the contract, they were to re-list it so I could be reimbursed. I seen that the dates were blocked off, so called to confirm. They sent me an e-mail stating that the owner had scheduled maintenance for that week and I would be receiving a check with a few days. Well, it's been two weeks now and had a friend check my mailbox. No check. I'll ask them to cancel the check today and issue me a new one before I leave here. For me, the real test of a reputable company is if they add unfounded charges and how well they handle refunds. This isn't a good start, to be told "your checks in the mail" and not receive it. But things do happened and I'll reserve judgment. My credit card company fraud division has already been notified, but I'll see what they do and update my review here when I know. Aside from that, this rental is wonderful. read more

Copied and pasted from my husband's review... I'm just too angry to put it in my own words right now... My family and I decided to rent again through Hatteras Realty. Apparently, we hadn't learned our lesson yet. Upon checking in to our house this year, we were again treated to a trifecta of flaws. The stairs leading up to the main floor were completely unfinished, with staples and nails sticking out all over the place. Our family had now grown to include two toddlers under the age of 2 and a 4 year old. These stairs were not going to do. After getting over the disappointment of being in a house under construction (again with no disclaimer), we started to look around. That was a bad idea. Upon inspecting the bathrooms, we found the shower liners to be growing black mold. Not just one liner, but ALL of them were infested. At this point we wanted out, but I'll get to that later. Finally, we went down to inspect our pool to make sure it would be safe for the kids. It was not. We found bramble bushes so overgrown that 1 whole side of the pool was not accessible. Worse than that, we found broken pieces of wood, with rusted nails sticking out, lying all around the hot tub. The broken wood was from the hot tub surround. It was decayed off completely. Needless to say, the entire underside of the hot tub was exposed, including all the electric motor parts. This was not a house that would be safe for young kids. Considering we had paid $4,700 for the week, we expected a little bit better. Upon contacting the realty, we were informed that the owner would not refund our rental price and move us to a safer house. He declared his right to attempt to correct the problems. So while he/the realty dragged their feet and made a poor assed attempt at fixing the problems (the moldy liners were never replaced and the brambles around the pool were never trimmed back), we had to remain in the unsafe house. To be fair, Carlos (never caught his last name) from Hatteras Realty Maintenance truly did bend over backwards to try and fix everything he could. He covered the unfinished stairs in a soft material akin to what you play mini golf on. Not pretty, but it solved the issue of the rough stairs. He reassembled the hot tub surround and removed all the garbage around the pool. In addition, he fixed some other minor issues around the house. Yet the worst was yet to come. On Monday, while swimming in the pool with my 1 year old, I noticed something odd. When I would dip my child's toes in the water, she would start to scream in pain. I thought it was just the water being cold. That is, until I climbed out of the pool and sat on the pool deck. I was casually running my fingers through the water while I played with my daughter when I started to feel a slight tingle in my hand. I couldn't place the feeling, but something did not feel right. It felt electrical, but that couldn't be right. What realty would rent out a house with electrical current running through the pool? Turns out that realty is Hatteras Realty. When maintenance came down (again) to inspect our pool, they brought a tool to test for current. Sure enough, there was 1.7 volts of electricity running through the water. And I had put my daughter in that pool. Now we were done. We wanted out of that house ASAP. Instead, we had to wait around while the realty/electric utility company tried to fix the problem. So while we waited around, wasting another day of vacation stuck in a house that was unsafe, the electric utility was running all types of tests to see if they could fix the problem. Turns out, they couldn't and we were FINALLY able to move to a different house. But here's the catch. We weren't entitled to a refund for the 3 days/2 Nights we had already spent in the house. So while the realty exposed my family and I to hazardous living conditions, we had to pay full price for the house. Bottom line, my family and I will continue to vacation in the Outer Banks. It is a tradition I would love to pass down to my children. But I've now learned my lesson. If you want to be treated poorly, have your family lied to, exposed to hazardous situations and have an overall sub-par vacation, by all means rent through Hatteras Realty. My family and I will not be so foolish anymore. read more

We rented for the first time in Avon and used Hatteras Realty (we have been visiting the Outer Banks for over 30 years) although we went further south than ever before. At first everything seemed well prepared and organized. They had access to club for some houses and a pool at the office for your use while waiting access to your rental. They even provided TP, dish soap, etc. to get you started. Upon check in, the house was not cleaned well, empty bottles, socks left in bedrooms, etc. On Monday, my son while checking on his waking 4 and 2 year old children, the ceiling fan fell off at hit my son in the head with the revolving blades, causing a slight concussion, my daughter in law had to old the fan up in the air, it was still receiving power and my grandson ran to get help. We had to disconnect the fan. We called the owner of the house and she acted accordingly, additionally we called Hatteras Realty to voice our concerns. There solution was to send a repair man to "reinstall"the fan without any new parts or screws. We declined. On Tuesday, I went to the office and talked to Grace in the management team. She was going to check in with the owner, the repair person and get back to me that day. Two weeks later, still never heard from Grace. She did call my son who the rental was in the name of, and offered us some pizza coupons or a late check out. (the late check out was only based on no rental for the next week). In thirty years of visiting the Outer Banks, I have never been so poorly treated by a realty company. Run from them, lots of other quality realty rental companies whose focus is on treating you well, not the way Hatteras Realty treated my family. read more

Regarding our stay at Holigans Hideaway by Hatteras Realty. The owner of the property refuses to repair the ongoing issue of the siding being dried out. When it rains it pours inside. Hatteras keeps renting out this home.the owner is waiting for enough damage to the home so he can file an insurance claim to have the repairs that are needed paid for by the insurance company. The owner for years has rented and collected rent money with no regards to the people who are in this home. Ms. O'Neal at Hatteras has con't to show little or no concern for the people who rent this home. I was here in 2014. Wind and rain poured into the home. Bedroom under living rm. buckets collected of black water. Black water ? Mold ? Living rm. pouring in as the wind blows in the rain. Children's toys, books soaked. Ms.O'Neal nothing. Sending all types of contractors for three days cleaning,vacuuming , chalking , changing ac filter sucked into unit, Cracks in ceiling , walls -sheet rock repaired . Dirty home. Looking for some type of offset. Nothing to date . The home from hell. How can Hatteras subject people, better yet have a owner who doesn't maintain this home . Renting this home out. I know each and every time it rains. Contractors are sent in. Endless cyle as per one contractor I had a conversation with. If you seek a fun time, do not say here and if you do bring umbrellas for inside. Ms. O'Neal here's what your saying. But does nothing in return for your aggravation . Hand rail work, carpets vacuumed, air filters changed, vents cleaned , windows chalked ,siding chalked ,tv repair men. This work was all done with us renting. I used this company for my wedding. They seemed to be the best because they did not charge extra deposits for events. The reservations process was pretty simple. I was really disappointed with them from the very beginning. We had paid and been promised to be in our house early to set up, but only got to get in an hour early instead of 3 hours early. Waste of money about that. Then while we were taking pictures and stuff we found dead bugs on the walls. We were quite disgusted to find that considering there were so many people visiting. After the wedding had ended we stayed to enjoy the house. In the course of our stay we found the sink faucets were encrusted in grime and looked untouched as far as cleaning goes. We actually found half empty soda cans around some of the beds in the house and trash deposited under the beds. We found bowls in the cabinets that actually had lettuce and salad dressing still in them. We called to complain and the girl really did not seem to care much. We drove over to show her and ask if she would want to eat out of that and she agreed to send someone to clean the house. Someone did show up, but they did not do the best job. We paid for pool heat and it was never turned on which was another wasted expense. The linens that were to be provided were hidden behind a wall and were not found until the next morning so no one had anything to use. For all the issues we were offered a $100 discount for the next year. That was not enough considering the pool heat alone was an extra $100 that was never used. Frankly this is a company that I would never do business with again. The house we stayed in was well stocked and had great amenities, but this company is far from what I like in a company. read more

Disappointed in all the hidden costs. We ended up paying almost $600 more than advertised price. No linens...had to pay $200 extra and then pay $5/bed to have sheets on the bed. After a seven hour drive, the last thing I wanted to do was make all the beds. Have been renting in the Outer Banks for years and was not used to being charged for every little thing. Been coming to the OBX with extended family at least one week a year for almost 20 years and have rented from most of the realty companies. We're now renting two homes in the same village each year to accommodate all the family members. Pros: * Lots of inventory to select from on Hatteras Island, so you can probably find a house in the village you want and in the location you want, even at the last minute * Maintenance and housekeeping respond very quickly and try their best to address any issues Cons: * Check in not as smooth compared to other realty companies. When we have received early check-in, the house was not properly cleaned. When we haven't, the house was not ready until later than desired. Maybe too much inventory for the size of check-in, cleaning staff. * The homes are consistently in much worse condition than other rental companies. This could be that renters don't report maintenance issues, but I expect a realty company to be on top of fixing things that should be caught during routine cleaning/inspections. * They don't post reviews on their properties than contain negative feedback! What good are asking for customer reviews if you only post the good ones? In 2015 we rented a property through Hatteras and afterwards gave an honest pro/con review just like I find on Trip Advisor or Yelp. Our vacation wasn't ruined by any means, but the experience was a slight let down from the pictures and the description. I wanted to make sure other customers could use that information. Hatteras Realty never posted it and my in-laws have experienced the same thing. User reviews keep realty companies and homeowners honest about the experience a customer will have. Since I know Hatteras filters theirs, I can no longer trust them as a company to honestly present their inventory. I hope more properties start being able to be viewed/rented through Trip Advisor or Air BNB, because a third party compiling real customer experiences helps all of us. read more

We just got back from a beautiful vacation in a wonderful area and stayed at a house with tons of potential. However, We rented from Hattaras Realty and had a terrible experience. The front desk staff and management were incredibly rude and we will never rent from them again. On their website, it says check in is between 4:30pm and 6pm. Our rental wasn't ready until after 7:30pm and was dirty when we moved in. Not to mention, there were a miriad of issues with the house including many things that were broken and not acceptable. Due to the late check in, I demanded some type of reimbursement, however have yet to receive anything or hear from anyone. A stranger let himself into the rental the day before we left saying he was from pest control and we had no idea who he was or that he was coming! This is unacceptable and all I got was an apology, nothing else. Their customer service is terrible. The manager said normally people use the pool while waiting and we should do that, however it was RAINING! I could go into more detail, however it seems rather pointless. The condition of the house was terrible. They want the rental payment, however the upkeep of the house was non existent. Broken and dirty grill, broken sliding door, beat up hot tub, a deck that gives you splinters, old and dirty furniture. read more

I rented a home named Bay Breeze in September of 2014. Suffice it to say their was a very long laundry list of problems with the house. The house had black mold in it, the deck furniture was broken, there were bugs throughout the house, the latches to the pool were broken, shingles were falling off of the house, the front door kept blowing open, the elevator stopped working, the pool heater stopped working, and on and on. Not to mention that the cleanliness of the house when we arrived was terrible. The important thing to point out is that one week every year my family rents a home in the Outer Banks and it is a very special time for all of us. This year was our first time renting with Hatteras Realty and it will be the last. My biggest problem with them is actually how they handled the situation. Yes, all of the problems that I listed and more that I didn't were really bad and really killed the relaxation of the vacation but had they dealt with them properly, I wouldn't be on here complaining as much. Pretty much every day I had to call and complain about an issue that seemed to happen at a steady pace throughout the vacation. Each time they assured me that someone would come over and someone would be calling to discuss it. Well, it took multiple days for anyone to show up for anything and mostly everything went unresolved. What's worse, when I talked to management about it they denied everything and said that they took care of things and I wouldn't let them fix stuff. It was one thing to have so many issues that could have been prevented had they taken care of the place, another to not have them resolved and spend so much of my vacation communicating with Hatteras about the issues begging them to fix things, but what I really can't swallow is the denial, and then them placing blame on me saying that I didn't contact them about everything and wouldn't let them fix things. I made at least 6 calls to them on what was supposed to be my vacation that they have somewhat of a monopoly on the market in Avon and some other areas of OBX and people love to go there so they have no choice but to rent from these people. and they couldn't even own up to it, let alone try to make it right. Wow, how does a place like this stay in business? I'll tell you the unfortunate fact is that they have most of the homes in areas such as Avon where I rented and since people like me love the area so much there is little choice in the matter. Think about a vacation with everything going wrong, broken, black mold in the house you rent and the business you rented from doesn't fix it and blames you. Think twice about renting from them, please. read more

Been going to Avon twice a year for 30+ years (just returned) and renting with Hatteras Realty for pretty much all of them. And lately every year I say it will be my last! But we keep going back because Island Creek has the best sound access. It's sad and infuriating. Those houses used to be so nice but they just get worse every year. No amount of complaining helps. And yet the price continues to climb. What really irks me are the old photos they continue to use. The pictures of the house we stay in still shows nice grassy lawn where you can lay your expensive gear. Hasn't been that way in years. Now it's mostly dirt and rocks. In fact the shaded concrete slab has washed out and fallen into pieces so it was roped off and unusable. And did anyone from Hatteras Realty notify us before our arrival? No. There are too many problems inside and outside to list. Talked with another long time renter in Island Creek and he is also about fed up and ready to move on. My advice for renters would be to avoid Island Creek unless, like us, you really need to be on the water. And then be prepared to be somewhat disappointed. read more

I am not happy with the support from Hatteras Realty. I was treated rudely while checking in on the first day. Upon arrival, our house was COVERED in dog hair, so after driving 12 hours, I had to vacuum the entire home including all the furniture. I also had to sweep the laundry room, which had sand all over the floor. When I called Hatteras Realty on the next day that the office was open, I was told that I should have called them and they would have had someone come and clean for us. That should have already been done. Also, the office was closed Saturday evening, Sunday, and Monday. I called at the first time I thought they would be in the office. The employee did not even apologize for the inconvenience. I cannot have my family (including a crawling baby) walk around in dog hair. She told me that she would tell the manger and I asked for the manager to call me back. I did not receive a call back. So, I paid $45 for a cleaning fee just to clean myself. Later from the house, I called Hatteras Realty with a question about our TV. Any program PG-13 or over was blocked with a code. I was told that it was set up that way to make sure we didn't order anything that the owner would have to pay for. That was not correct. A channel would be working, and when the show changed, it would block and ask for a 4 digit code. I was told she would contact the owner and then call me back with the code. I never received a call back and there was quite a bit of rain the week we stayed, that not having TV really affected us. None of the DVD/Blu-Ray players were hooked up correctly, and some even had missing or wrong cords. Also - advertised as an incentive to stay with Hatteras Realty, I was supposed to be able to buy tickets to the H2OBX waterpark at a discounted rate. I drove to the local office in Avon, and they did not have paper tickets available. So, the woman at the front desk pointed to a computer in the office and told me I could try that. The link for the discount did not work. When I asked the woman at the front desk for help, she told me to "just keep clicking around". In the end, I had to pay full price for 4 adult tickets, which should have been a savings of $32. Again, no apology was given. I am very disappointed at the level of customer service we received while in the Outer Banks. We will be returning to the Outer Banks because it is beautiful, relaxing, and such a wonderful place to vacation, but we will not be booking our next home through Hatteras Realty. read more

We have rented from Hatteras Realty several times. Until this year, our experiences were generally 4 star. However, this year we had multiple problems. First, after we made the reservation, it took several phone calls to get an accurate invoice--the first two had errors (each charging us too much). Then, at check-in we were told that the unit's a/c and dishwasher weren't working but would be fixed soon. We were not told that the oven and grill were also not working. A/c, dishwasher, and grill were repaired or replaced the next day; the oven could not be repaired in spite of three or four visits from repairmen. A small balcony overlooking the sound that would have provided cross-ventilation was locked shut for safety reasons. On the second day, a chunk of the kitchen ceiling came crashing down and the rest threatened to do so (a result of the a/c problem). Meanwhile, simple things like a falling shower curtain and ripped screen door had apparently not been reported by the cleaners so we had to deal with those as well. All of this required multiple phone calls and multiple workers in the house almost every day we were there. The Hatteras Realty and repair people we dealt with were all polite and helpful, but all of these problems did not make for a relaxing stay. We negotiated with Hatteras for compensation and did receive a small refund and a small credit, which we did not feel was adequate. We wonder whether these kinds of problems are more common now that Wyndham has taken over what was a locally-owned company. We will be very reluctant to rent from Hatteras Realty again. read more

I would give this a minus 10 if I could. I stayed at the Sea Isle in Waves, 25297 sea isle hills Salvo NC. To be specific this is the worse vacation house we have ever rented, and we have been renting for a very long time. It is ridiculous and probably extremely unhealthy when you can see mold and mildew in the pictures that hang on the wall and around the windows, in the bathrooms The toilet leaked into the ceiling around the lights, down on the floor and soaked part of a bedroom carpet. The toilet was fixed the next day but everything was still wet. When it rained the ceiling in the foyer leaked onto the floor and we had to clean that up. The maintenance person told us they were already aware of the leak and the property owner was told to call a roofer but never did. the whole house had the mildew musty smell for the entire week . the game table downstairs was broken. The hot tub needs to be replaced as the jets hardly work. The fireplace had condensation or rain on the inside. Ants and roaches were seen on the kitchen level. The outside of the house looked like it had never been taken care of. The only time the realty company offered us any kind of compensation is when we called asking for it on Wednesday. They told us they would turn on the pool heater so we could at least get in the pool Pool person came out wed to turn on the heater to discover it to was broken. He called in a repair and that guy didn't show up until Thursday, He did what he could but it only worked the day and was cold again by Friday morning, So we got no compensation. The realty company should never have rented this house. If anyone rents a house down there make sure its not owned by the same people this one is. read more

HORRIBLE !! - Stayed @ Bucks Bucks in Frisco, July 4 2012 week - broken washing machine all week - we checked in on Sat (problems with that as well) and upon arrival the 2nd floor HVAC was not working - called & they sent someone out to fix - still wasn't working as well as top floor - back bedrooms stayed very hot. On Sun. noticed the washing machine was broke and had a sign that said "out of order". This house was NOT rented the entire week prior to our arrival, this should have been fixed then. Called Hatteras Realty EVERY day, as we had dirty towels (they only provide one bath towel, etc. per person) I requested Tues @ 9am that someone PLEASE bring us clean linens - they did around 2:30 pm and that was the last we saw of them ALL WEEK. I will not rent from Hatteras Realty unless it's the LAST RESORT. We have been vacationing twice a year there for the last 10 years and pretty much have used all the realty companies there. I must also mention this house is for sale and I feel as though the owners do not have the $$ for the upkeep because there were SEVERAL minor maintenace issues- broken furniture, sliding glass doors that wouldn't open, oven didn't heat up to right temp - it took 2.5 hrs to cook a lasagne that should have been only an hour - mold in ice maker. A reputable rental company would pull this home off the market until repairs are made. We paid almost $8,000 for the week - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I asked for some type of reimbursement for the major inconveniences and was told by Mary Ann, Manager - "will call you back" - haven't heard a word - which is what I was told every day ALL WEEK - they RARELY returned my calls. and when I did speak to them, the reply was "I've got someone coming out today" - no joke... that was told to us EVERY DAY and every day was a NO SHOW. read more

We rented a house in the off-season this month. Arrived to the place and was shocked to find that it wasn't appropriately cleaned. There was sand and dirt on the carpet, dead bugs in the closet (that looked like cockroaches!), areas with cracked and peeling paint on the ceilings, stains on the walls that appeared to be mold, and furniture both inside and out with tears and cracks. We arrived early the next day and waited about an hour before management could talk to us because they were in a meeting. She sat us down and was pleasant, but didn't really think we would be moved from the place because the areas of concern were not dangerous or serious enough. This was the off season. There were multiple vacant homes that we could have been moved to. Instead, she offered to have some maintenance people stop by and spruce up the place. The pest control came by later that morning and sprayed for "Palmetto bugs", which are indigenous to the island, but highly resemble cockroaches! Later that afternoon, a cleaning crew stopped by when we were out about 3-4 PM and recleaned the place, organized the movies/games, arranged the kitchen items, and swept the floors. I was appreciative, but felt that those things should be done on every property as promised and shouldn't have to be requested. The place was not found as advertised and I would be embarassed to present a rental to a guest in this type of condition. The place was dumpy and is in need of major deep cleaning! While the manager was polite and did correct a few of the problems, she offered us NOTHING for our inconvience other than an "I'm sorry". If she couldn't move us to a better rental, a discount would have been acceptable, but that was not even suggested. When there's multiple areas and rental companies to choose from, it's important in customer service to redeem mistakes and make the guests feel like they are top priority. I'll be choosing a different company if I visit the Outer Banks again. Hatteras Realty and at least this property (Sun Sand and Seay) were a major disappointment.
