I picked this tour as a gift for a friend of mine who is into paranormal investigation. Our tour guide was Brian, who is not just a tour guide, but also participates in investigations. Very enjoyable and informative tour. Would recommend whole heartedly. Our tour started by the Masonic Lodge, which is on the corner of Broadway and Woodfin. We then hit some of the haunted spots around town: Thomas Wolfe House, Dueling Piano bar & former Ristorante Vicenzo, the 13 story building that once house government, the former jail, church street, the Basilica and Pinball museum (former hotel), and Chicken Alley. Along the way, lots of history to learn. Asheville was once a place people went when they had tuberculosis, believing the mountain air would save them. Then there was the Spanish Flu of 1917. The city morgue was in the basement of the building where the Ristorante Vincenzo sat (soon to reopen as another restaurant). That there used to be graveyard under Aston and Church street and Edwin Wiley Grove built a section of the city to look like New York City. All fascinating historical information. Apparently, you can take this tour a few times, with different guides, and get some slightly different flavor, so this could be one to take more than once. Either way, I wholeheartedly recommend. On a side note, my friend brought her paranormal equipment with her and we set things down at the Thomas Wolfe house after the tour was over. Brian, the tour guide, joined us, giving some additional background as she set out her pod, recorder, and other equipment. She invited another couple, but I think they got spooked. read more

We booked this based on reviews on another site (surprised it isn't already on Yelp) We enjoy a good walking ghost tour, so we were looking forward to this highly rated one that I had booked well in advance. We met our guide Tad at 7:45 on a beautiful Saturday night in front of the Masonic Temple downtown. We never had to present our prepaid tickets nor asked to introduce ourselves, so I assume he went by numbers. Our group was of varying ages, including a couple pretty young ones who held up admirably on this adult-type tour. (adult type not due to scariness, but because it's a lot of standing around listening to storytelling). We found Tad to be an enthusiastic storyteller who told stories in about five different outside locations. The stories were all interesting although not necessarily overly ghost-like. The longest story for instance was about a crime that never mentioned anything ghostly. After two hours of enthusiastic storytelling, we ended up in the basement of the Masonic Temple which houses an office/museum. The building itself seemed like it was much creepier/more interesting than the basement. Would have loved to have seen and heard about some of that! read more

Tad, the tour guide was nice and informative. What I will say as a heads up is this tour is not creepy or scary in any way! It's more historical with comedic overtones. Definitely not what we wanted and kind of bummed about our own expectations. Lots of walking and was kind of hard to understand the tour guide from all the downtown sounds. We thought we'd be near gravesites or get to go into buildings, but it was all outside in a very urban setting. Our group had about 60 people in it. There was no cockamamie bs, it was all based on true events (or at least first hand accounts) as much as possible, they even admit when there's minimal evidence of certain things. My fiancée and I went on this tour January 1st guided by Tad. Seeing that both of us are from out of town, it was an interesting insight into the history of Asheville combined with fun ghost stories. Although the tour lasted 2 hours it absolutely did not feel that way! Tad was an excellent tour guide, answering any questions we had despite at times being outside the scope of the tour. Ghost tour in Asheville sc. this is actually quite the neat tour. I like going on these tours when I visit different cities if I can. This was a two hour walking tour of the city so put your walking shoes on. It also go up some hills. There was actually a couple people who couldn't make it due to the hills and the brisk pace to the first stop. The tour was a bit pricey at $22 but it's one of those one off things that once you do it once you probably won't want to do it again. A lot of cool little stories were told and at the end you end up at the Freemason building where they have exhibits in the basement. Not a bad little thing to occupy your time while in Asheville. read more

What a fun tour! I'm so glad we decided to book this. I had never been on a ghost tour before so I had no idea what to expect. It was the perfect combination of history and storytelling. This was a great tour with a guy that really knew his stuff. He was generally excited about the history and ghost of Asheville. The kids and adults had a thrilling time. With that said, the tour met up next to perhaps a halfway house of some-sort. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the local legends/stories, not to mention he was SO funny! The history of Asheville is interesting. The tour began on a street corner and ended underneath a Masonic Temple looking at historical documents, photographs, and artifacts from local folklore and true stories. The tour lasts roughly 2 hours and I think it was around $20 per person. The city of Asheville closes kind of early (or so it seemed to us) so if you are looking for a "late night" activity & if you love ghost stories then you should definitely attend the Haunted Asheville Ghost Tour! read more

Expected a haunted Asheville tour as noted on the website. What we got was a guide who attempted to be funny while telling a history of Asheville that was not a true timeline. I wouldn't have minded the history of Asheville tour if the guide had his facts straight. Vanderbilt and his NY friends did not 'make' Asheville a destination. It was already a destination and Vanderbilt arrived at least 25 years after the Civil War. Just one example. We got 2 short stories of spirits. I like the book and thought this tour was going to mention the stories in the book or maybe some stories of what the author has been investigating. A real disapointment. read more
