Tours are by appointment, and can be arranged via the Zelienople Historical Society. There are two museums within walking distance of each other, the Passavant House, and the Buhl House. Each house tour runs for approx. 45 minutes, and is led by a volunteer docent from the society. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person for the tour (which includes both houses). There is so much to see inside these two houses, and the docents were very interesting and knowledgeable. Also, there are gardens behind each house, and these can be viewed at any time since they are outdoors, and there is no charge just to view the gardens (The gardens at Passavant House are very nice, and include lots of heirloom vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees which are all labeled. Also there is a beautiful pavilion where you can sit and relax). The garden at Buhl house has flowers and a fountain, plus a spring that is running through a tunnel underneath the house. If you are in the area, do check out these magnificent homes that are now museums. Also, there are places to eat and shop within walking distance. We ate lunch at the Historic Kaufman Tavern after our tour . . . Cheers!

The museum is setup to look like a small town train station, and in one of the railroad cars there is a model railcar display setup. The owner, Don, was friendly and talked to us about the history or the museum and the items within it. In addition to the museum, there is a little gift shop with a wide variety of unique items including toys and books for the kids at great prices.

My favorite is sitting on the gazebo and watching the wildlife come enjoy the tranquil pond. You owe it to yourself to come for a day, spend the weekend in one of the cabins or tents, or take one of their incredible classes. We did log inoculation class on their last day of season. They open back up May 2024 for their next season.

My guess is you could take three different tours and learn something new from each one. We were only allowed to take photos of the first floor. The other floors had Air BnB rooms. Everything from the paranormal phenomena to the tunnels from the carriage house to Lake Erie were fascinating.

The Victorian mansion is ornate and makes you feel the weight of its history. The ornate stonework, hidden passageways, and eerie ambiance all add to its mysterious charm. It's definitely picture-worthy whether you're walking by or walking in. The event organizers were friendly. I was at the castle for pop art show held by Zack Webb. It was so fun to see the juxtaposition of history/antique and bright pop art. There was no guided tour, just a hang out in the main area of the house, and basement lounge (both very cool). If you're into history, architecture, or the paranormal, Franklin Castle is a must-see. Although I didn't see or feel any ghosts. It's equal parts creepy and captivating. Whether you're a Clevelander or a visitor, go see it!

The home on its own is beautiful, the tall ceilings, the pocket doors the 1' tall baseboards, the cute powder room behind Hannibal, it was just a wonderful layout, the time period furniture, the wall paper, it just a beautiful home. Now lets add in the rest, OMG!! The scene shots, the pictures, painting and props, just top notch and very "well" done, speaking of the well, it was great, we both did poses in the well with precious and the music and the background music and all were great, we had a blast. A++++++++. It was great, and if you can get a bunch of people to go, all the more better. It can slept 8 so it would be a great and fun group weekend. For an older home, you would expect it to be a little musty, but no, it was fresh and clean and just wonderful. I loved having coffee watching the trains go by, car counting. it was just awesome, all of it. Watching the Silence of the Lambs on the big screen up stairs, while being in the house while watching it, was epic and a nice way to top off the evening. Bravo Chris, Bravo, we, my wife and I, have been hosting Halloween parties for almost 4o years, so I am used to sweating the details, and I can tell you are spot on and caught every detail possible. From the owner of buffalo bills house this was the last tour of the season until May of next year. But, you can book a stay in the house. I think it is also through their website. The tour was about two ours long. Got a little history of the house and town. Got the details of the movie and how the house was before filming and after. This home is just beautiful during Christmastime. I was there during a week day, which was great…read morebecause it wasn't too busy. One of the docents told me that it is so packed that people can barely move through sometimes on the weekends. That said, I might suggest offering a slight discount rate for coming on a weekday. Even a couple bucks cheaper as an incentive to get people to come when it's less busy. I love the history and I love the thought and time that was put into each of the displays. Very interesting history and I know that I barely scratched the surface learning about this prominent Youngstown family. Loved the mid-century modern displays too. I'm sure it's appealing to my generation and older, because all of it is very familiar. Everyone who works here is very friendly. The gift shop sells some really cool vintage things and it is worth a look. I was excited to see that it was next to the Wick House, which is (or at least it was 30 years ago) a women's dorm where my friend once lived, so it was nostalgic to see that building. I hadn't realized it would be right next door. I believe that family was on the Titanic if my memory serves me correctly. Anyhow- do try to come during Christmastime to visit the Arns Museum. It's a great piece of local history.

Born in 1797…read moreas Isabella Baumfree, she was an abolitionist and activist for black civil rights, women's rights and alcohol temperance. Born a slave in New York, she escaped to freedom in 1826. She gave the speech "Ain't I A Woman?" in 1851 which became widely known during the Civil War. She went on to recruit black troops to fight for the Union Army and continued to fight for women's rights and civil rights until her death. That famous speech was given at the Ohio Women's Right's Convention here in Akron and to honor that, the United Way of Summit County and Akron has named this space for her in 2023, placed a statue and quotes. Charlie was…read moreour tour guide and she planned several stops along the way and a Chalk Talk show and then dinner at Yoders the evening we arrived. The Hotel was fabulous and so welcoming. The next day, we had a wonderful buffet breakfast and then the show, one more stop at Hometown Kitchen for an Amish family style meal. I can't believe that they do not have any previous Yelp reviews. Also, Margaret was our driver, and she was also awesome. I would for sure take another overnight tour with this company. We were well fed and entertained.
