Last Friday I had another magnificent experience at Stonewalls. Superb service, excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere!

First time here and really enjoyed our dinner. Must say that I wanted to start with a glass of champagne. Our server came back and said it wasn't cold. What?? It's Friday night. Dinner. I found that to be off putting. Okay... ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Server returns.. it's not cold. Are you kidding me? Debbie finally said.. I'll tell you what I do have that's cold. Gee... that was disappointing . Sat in one of the small rooms and Debbie our server really was great. I felt bad for her that she gad to tell be that these wines/champagne were not cold. I had the halibut... my Mother had the Filet. We both got the baked potato which comes with a lovely server with toppings. Nice touch. Loved the bread with the pesto oil and Texas beans. We both got dessert of bread pudding and I got the vanilla mousse in chocolate cup. Will I return? I'm sure next time I'm in town I will... but PLEASE have white wine/Champagne chilled in a Friday night. read more

We went for the Sunday brunch after hearing years of good things about this place. We truly could not have been more disappointed. The "brunch" had no breakfast food except for bacon that did not have to be ordered from the kitchen. The crêpes were small and very chewy. Omelette was OK. The hot food was not. The potatoes were like Play-Doh with a layer of butter on top, the mac & cheese was cool. The turkey and dressing was like a log of turkey substance you would buy from Walmart. The pork was overcooked and dry as you will see. Prime rib was somehow very tough and not seasoned. The desserts were bland, not sure how you mess up a mini cheesecake. The bloody Mary tasted like watered down tomato juice out of a can at Walmart mixed with some cheap vodka. we were very sad that this happened and we will not return. We walked in and wasn't very clear on how to proceed, but one of the guests told us the hostess would come out. About 15 minutes after our reservation a lady came out and looked surprised to see us and asked if we could be helped. We told her our name and she's like oh yes, come this way. She's very nice. My husband and I were here 25 years ago - and decided it would be nice to visit again. The grounds are really beautiful. The breakfast at Ashley's and the dinner at Stonewall's (both located on the property) were excellent and large portions. There are many cute nooks to discover and the 4 pm tea was wonderful. That was the good stuff! Here's the bad stuff: The rooms are in really poor condition. The furniture is falling apart, the chairs and carpet are worn, cracked tiles in the bathroom. The bathroom was so dated - it was horrendous. And the pool table was the same exact one we played on 25 years ago. But this time, the table was buckling and moldy. The property is in serious need of a facelift and some TLC. I would definitely come again for the Sunday brunch - or a dinner at Stonewalls. But - until the rooms get some updating, I won't be spending the night again. read more

Beautiful inn, full of antiques. I wanted to love the brunch but it was mediocre and not worth the price.

From the personalization of your welcome tray to the amazing service we received from the staff, I could not say anything negative about Tara-A Country Inn. A friend and I were ending our New England road trip and I guess we saved the best for last. We had an amazing, plentiful and delicious dinner experience at the on-site restaurant "The Stonewall Tavern" and then came back to "The Magnolia Blossom" room to relax in our two person jacuzzi tub. And if you think you're going to get some cheap complimentary hotel breakfast, think again. The service and quality remains during all hours of the day. I cannot stress enough how amazing this place is! read more

Amazing Sunday brunch. One of the best I've ever been to. Besides the omelets waffles and crepes all made to order they had everything from prime rib to ham, turkey pork pasta and a fantastic salad. Bar with fresh salmon. The desserts table had hot peach cobbler cherry cheesecake chocolate cake bread pudding and lots more. The choice of sides was also amazing. Dinner at Stonewalls was so yummy, i had the portabella mushroom, and my husband had the filet. The martinis are huge and well made. Breakfast is included and is huge and and delicious also. All rooms have a full bathroom and a jet tub. Upon check-in, your room will have a champagne, wine, and cheese tray. 4pm tea follows and it's a nice little array of finger sandwiches, cookies, tea, and coffee. Dinner reservations can be made for Stonewall's Tavern downstairs and the food and service are good. I recommend making dinner reservations when your room reservations are made :o) The other dinner option is Ashley's Gourmet 7-course dinner, but we haven't had that as it seems to have been unavailable since COVID? It's probably really good. We are very interested in having it when it opens again. With that said, I think the breakfast that's included with the stay is in that room, Ashley's Dining Room, and we enjoyed our breakfast there. Extremely nice server and good food. If you can manage to have their Sunday brunch, DO IT. That requires a reservation too, but it is well worth it due to the amount of options available. Beautiful spread and delicious breakfast. Other amenities include a billiards room, a sauna, an indoor pool, and an outdoor pool whenever the weather is nice enough. The staff is nice, polite and helpful. We stopped at Stonewall Tavern for dinner. It's in the basement of the property but it's got a really nice atmosphere despite this. My husband is tall and had to duck at points to avoid hitting his head, the ceiling is really low in spots. I'm glad we made reservations as there were quite a few full tables. The wine list is extensive and the pour was generous. The food was really fantastic. My steak wasn't quite as done as I had asked for but wasn't to a point where I felt a need to ask for it to be cooked further. Between the bread, the salad, and the meal, we were so full, so I really appreciated that there was the beautiful property to walk a bit afterwards. Lots of statues to see on a nice brick trail around the Inn. There was a wedding reception outside so we weren't able to see everything but what we did see was beautiful. This is a great place to see if you're in the area. read more

After a lengthy week of travel through some of the "best" cities for hotels and restaurants (nyc, Boston, Portland, etc), coming here was the highlight of my trip. The grounds and home are incredible. Beautiful architecture, furnishings, and decor. Gorgeous crystal and stained glass fixtures. After checking in, we were given a tour of the home on the way to our room. We have a sunroom with a large jacuzzi tub, a welcome basket with fruit, cheese, and champagne. Real flowers were placed in a vase for us. Stonewall tavern was excellent . Steak perfectly done, delicious homemade gravy with red potato mash, servers were attentive & friendly + conversational, drinks on point. This is just a wonderful place. So happy to have found it and plan on coming back often. It's so obvious that a lot of love and care are given to the home and the guests who visit. read more

We just had our sons rehearsal dinner at Tara and everything was perfect! Jennifer Tripp the event coordinator made sure everything I requested was made possible. The food was amazing! The staff was on top of everything. The guests were so impressed and are still complimenting on how wonderful the evening was. We also stayed at the inn and enjoyed our rooms and the delicious breakfasts! I would 100% recommend anyone interested in having their event at Tara to not hesitate. This review is for the Sunday brunch only, I haven't stayed at the Inn itself. First time having the brunch here, and I will definitely be back! The dining room (as well as the rest of the inn) is beautiful and laid out well. There was a variety of meat available (turkey, pork, ham, roast beef), a crepe/waffle station, as well as an omelette station. There was also a variety of salads, vegetable dishes, and a dessert table. Everything tasted great! Service was friendly and helpful as well. The brunch price was reasonable for the quality of food. We spent some time after brunch touring the inn. It's inspired by Gone With The Wind and has some neat historical items to look at. read more

Good food and huge portions, but in this day and age, it may be time for a rebrand. The Confederacy is not something to look back at fondly, especially when thousands of Pennsylvanians died fighting against it. Keep the Colonial Revival and historic charm; lose the references to Confederate generals and other atrocities. read more

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at Tara Country Inn. We are so pleased to find this gem to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I can't say enough about the room, the whole inn, the impeccable grounds, great dinner and breakfasts, swimming pool and professional staff. This was the first restaurant I went to after the COVID reopening. We ate at the Stonewall's Tavern for our anniversary. Everything was COVID friendly. Service was great and timely. More importantly the food was fantastic. We both got steaks that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The atmosphere is very historic and aesthetic. Stayed here for a night to celebrate my birthday. Booked Belles Boudoir for the mid week special and had dinner at Stonewalls Tavern. Starting with check in, the woman was extremely helpful and gave us a small tour on the way to our room. She helped us with booking room service for breakfast as well. Getting into the room - it looked a little different than advertised. Online, it showed red covers and tons of pillows on the bed, which was one of the main reasons I booked this particular room. So, upon entering, I was disappointed to see that the covers were only white, and we were given only four plain white pillows. Otherwise, the room was great. The TV is tucked in the cabinet and the fireplace kept the room nice and warm overnight. As for dinner, everything was pretty good. It was strange when we first walked in, there was no hostess or anyone to greet us, and it doesn't appear like much of a "lobby" for lack of a better word. Our waitress gave us lots of details about the menu. Our food was pretty good, both my husband and I got steaks. Mine was slightly over cooked, but not past the point that I couldn't eat it. Didn't care so much for the vegetable of the day (brussel sprouts with lemon juice)... went a little much on the lemon juice. Had a lovely (and strong) peach martini. We took strawberry cheesecake to go and enjoyed it in our room later that night. We also enjoyed using the small indoor pool, as we had it all to ourselves. There was also a huge soaker tub in our room that we could have easily both fit into, which we enjoyed the most. Overall, it was a great time and experience and we will definitely return. read more

A TRUE Sunday Brunch!! If you have never been here you are missing some of the best experiences around. The setting is Tara. Yes the Tara from Gone With The Wind. Even the grounds and building are a beautiful replica. The full size Remington Bronze statues ( many) are scattered across some gorgeous grounds. And the dining is in the Stonewall Room with a grand collection of Civil War Items. The service is in costume and full of southern hospitality. Chefs make omelette sand crepes to order but there is a spread that covers any want. From breakfast items to prime rib, the food is just plan awesome. If you want the best Sunday brunch, here it is. We went here for a post wedding Sunday brunch. The buffet was very substantial. They had an omelette bar, crepes, waffles, and everything else you would expect for brunch. Everything was also delicious. I wish I hadn't eaten the night, or really the entire week before coming. There were so many delicious options, I wish I was hungrier. 3.5 stars, if only I could. Owned by a very successful area family, the place spares little expense in creating the feel of a 19th plantation house. The interior is full of period furniture, clothing, guns, etc. The grounds are very interesting, nicely manicured and full of statues. They were hosting a wedding rehearsal the night we were there. The Shenango River (Reservoir) is "out back" providing some understanding as to why a place like this would be where it is. The location is much more convenient that I'd thought, located on PA-18, less than 20 miles north of the I-80/PA-60 interchange, and less than 5 miles north of the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage. It is tricky to see the exit when on 18N, take the Clark exit (PA258). The folks had invited the wife and me out to dinner, telling of this very inexpensive early-bird deal. I'm thinking Seinfeld, force feeding myself a steak at 4PM to get the senior discount. But, even if it was the case, my folks are worth it. The room that they do this in is not the fancy, upscale, overpriced steak room. It's in the basement. The ceiling is low. The room has a musty smell. It is jammed with stuff. It is decorated strangely, kinda 19th century, kinda 1980's country fad. There is a huge fireplace that they say heats the room in the winter. I'd like to return for a Christmas dinner just to see that baby blazing. The dinner deal runs from 4-5:30. They offer a choice of main dishes (read: meat) with a fixed set of sides (mashed potatoes, sauteed veggie, slaw) and a choice of sherbet or bread pudding. Coffee or tea included, the bill comes to about $10/person. Mine was a little higher, thanks to a little help from Sam Adams. The food was spotty. The veggies were very good, the mashed potatoes had enough butter to clog your neighbors arteries too, but were good. The slaw was average. The wife scored the best choice at the table. She had the pot roast. It was very good, even to her uber-discriminating taste. My pan-fried chicken was dry. Bleh. The folks both got the pork chops and kraut. The kraut was good, a little sweet, but the chops were as dry as my chicken. The bread pudding was overly sweet, but the portion was big and it was good. It was very warm when it came out which was a plus. In the end, this is an interesting place to spend time with the folks, and if you can stand the atmosphere, the price is right. Don't get the chicken. read more

My husband booked a night for us to enjoy our 10 year wedding anniversary. This is the nicest bed and breakfast I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Ron was available to answer all of our questions and was very sweet. All of the staff was amazing. Chelsea was an excellent waitress we met at the incredible Sunday brunch. Debby was our waitress for the Stonewall dinner, she was excellent. I had the 6 oz filet and my husband the cheese ravioli. The food was amazing. This morning before check out we enjoyed breakfast in the sun room of the Ashley dining area. Debbie was fantastic! Nothing at this place disappointed me. The garden views are beautiful, there is a nice walking path. The indoor pool and sauna was relaxing and the bed was comfy. Stay here! read more

What a lovely destination! I cannot believe I've lived in western PA for most of my life and never heard of/been to Tara. My husband and I planned a spur of the moment overnight getaway first Saturday of February. We booked the Kim Kee Moon Room and opted for the getaway package $325 which includes a welcome champagne basket in your room, high tea service at 4pm, a cocktail reception at 6pm which we missed, dinner at either Ashley's or Stonewall's, and Sunday breakfast served to your room or the famous brunch. We had an excellent time! Felt like back in time, with southern hospitality. Met some friendly people, loved our beautiful clean room complete with tub and gas burning fireplace, and look forward to going back when the outdoors can be more enjoyed! read more

Feels like I should have a few disclosures before reviewing. This place is what you make it. On paper, tea time and champagne punch in an Antebellum South-style mansion based on Gone With the Wind (I've never seen the film, despite being well rounded film appreciator) sounds pretty lame. But let that go. It is a pretty good time. Very stress free day. Wife and I received a free stay for an anniversary gift and went up on Saturday May 28. We did some swimming before it started with the lightning, and took it to the indoor pool. No big deal. Relaxed a bit and soaked in the scenery. Then we hit up the tea time (which as previously noted, sounds lame), but it was pretty nice. Delightful little sandwiches/cookies with coffee and tea. Enjoyed it, then went back and showered/got dressed for our 7 course dining at Ashley's (suit/tie required) and walked around some more. Dinner was very good. A little high end, but that's what is included in the package. The courses were paced very well, and everything was A- (I don't give out A+ very often). The service was very good as well. I then enjoyed my wine buzz by going back to the pool and swimming. Side note: There was this wedding happening at the same time with the hackiest DJ ever, and it was INFURIATING. Here's a good example of why I pray this guy is infertile. He played "Sweet Caroline" (a fairly standard wedding song) and then right before the chorus, he would turn down the music and say 'ARE YOU READY?' to encourage singing along (which happens automatically if the booze is flowing). I used to DJ weddings a bit, and this behavior makes me feel the way a moderate Muslim person must feel when ISIS cuts the heads off a journalist. 'WE'RE NOT ALL THIS BAD!!' Anyhoo...I digress. Woke up the next morning, enjoyed coffee service and a very outstanding BIG breakfast. I had strip steak with two scrambled eggs (which apparently came from a goose, as the egg portion was giant). All in all, this place is perfect for relieving stress and enjoying a taste of the high life. IF THIS PLACE WERE A MUSICIAN/BAND: The Stray Cats: A blast from the past that is seemingly antiquated, but if you sit back and enjoy, it's a good time. read more

Ate in Stonewall Tavern: Let's start this right to the point, food fantastic and white tablecloth worthy. Our server Debbie just lacked having the extra care this caliber of restaurant should deliver. She was fair and did the job but she wasn't too friendly. Also a very casual almost indifferent demeanor, a side salad came out wrong and she complained about the kitchen. My father in law said it was fine and so she left it at that instead of just making it right. Again later father in law is getting up in senior years and thought he said coffee with Baileys but nobody caught it. Waitress gave a little attitude like that is your coffee you ordered. The ambiance is very authentic and a great change of scenery to do a high quality meal for a nice night out. The steak fillets were good that all got except me, the chicken Marsala was my pick and was it done just perfectly the way a true one should be done. Mashed potatoes were super creamy and thick, a smooth grand flavor. A trip from Michigan to visit family was worth every bite of their famous bread pudding. I can't tell you if it's the bourbon sauce that finishes that in a heavenly order or just being made right. I got the flourless chocolate torte that was done so light and creamy it was one of the best I've had. Hostess encouraged us to tour the Inn and that's a great place to enjoy looking at the history and a tribute to the renowned movie Gone With the Wind. I had a fabulous time! read more

We were staying at The Buhl Mansion, and we wanted to have a nice dinner so we made reservations at Stonewalls for 8:00. Well, to say the least, we should have waited for breakfast, because it took nearly 2 hours (10:00) to get our food. The food was horrible. The butter would not even melt on my baked potato. My fillet was cold and the vegetables looked like they were from the garbage. The waitress (Terry) was very cold and said "your meal is not anywhere near ready" this was at 9:30. She didn't even offer to get us a drink or send over the manager. We ended up just paying our bill and leaving the horrible food. We ate crackers in our room. What a horrible experience. We will never be back and nor should you. read more

The atmosphere at the Inn is terrific. Went for dinner at Stonewall Tavern and found it to be a charming space. Lovely British woman was our server and she was fantastic and one of the best parts of the experience. Started with drinks upstairs. Mixed reviews here. We ordered a Jameson and Ginger and a Manhattan. She made the Jameson and Ginger with Sierra Mist. There is a big difference between ginger ale and a lemon lime soda. If she was out of the former she should have said so. She also cleared my Manhattan before I was finished with the drink. Disappointing start. I ordered the prime rib dinner which started with a tossed salad. Waaaaaaaaay to much vinegar in the dressing made it inedible. Assorted dinner rolls were fantastic. Cook got our meet temperatures reversed so both had to be sent back. My medium prime rib was bloody and waaaaaaay to salty. Take 2 was much better. Sides were great. Creamed spinach was very different than what I've had in the past but delicious. Loved the sweet potato and toppings "bar". Clever. Lots of missteps but overall it was good. Been there four times, each time we stayed for two nights. The level of service is the best I've ever experienced. I have to admit I'm a bigger fan of Ashley's than I am of Stonewall's. Stonewall's is a steakhouse with great prime rib. Ashley's is a four-diamond upscale restaurant that serves a seven-course white-glove dinner. Best I've had. Outstanding! read more
