We love visiting here every time we are in Galveston. Fun place for the kids- we all enjoyed the haunted house.

This is so worth it! Must stop if you are visiting the strand, especially if it's around Halloween!

The staff was fantastic! High energy, friendly, informative and talkative! They would get 5 star and A+! The haunt itself was okay. I dont want to ruin it for anyone else. The historical perspective is very cool. And what they had was pretty good. However it was not very long. The teens i was with, enjoyed the "your last ride" thing as well. We all enjoyed it! Ok.. I'm giving 5 due to the staff, although the concept of the haunted mansion was great the best part was the interaction between guest and narrator. It's about $14 for both attractions. Just do both of them. The mansion experience is about 10-15 min including short videos and introduction. You can spend as long as you want in the pirate experience. The good "doctor" was awesome, he stayed in character throughout, he was very convincing. He popped out at all the right spots and definitely had me jumping on a few occasions. The manager of the exhibit was super friendly and knowledgeable.. they both seemed to really like their jobs and that made a huge difference in the way our experience mapped out. It was fun, cute way to spend some time on the island. This isn't really scary but I would say 10 and older. read more

Really haunted y'all. Resident ghosts from the great hurricane about still lurk in this old school side show where hundreds of bodies were stored after the great storm. My kids are 16 and 17 and still love coming here. When they were real young, my daughter was too scared to go in. Lots of fun for kids of all ages. If lucky you might see a real ghost! read more

I was so disappointed by this. There isn't anything haunted about it. You go through a few rooms as the evil doctor leads you through them. Then in the end he makes you stay in the room with him pretending you can't get out. He was actually really annoying and I didn't like how he got right in my face. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this as we were walking back to my car to go home to Houston. I was initially skeptical as I entered but then the mad doctor gave his pitch to us and it was quite good so I was sold. For $20 for my girlfriend and I, the experience was awesome. We got a debrief about why the Mayfield Manor was haunted (don't worry, I won't give it away) then were led into the scenario. It was very personal and do admit I jumped a few times. What made it a 5-star experience was that it was literally only my girlfriend and I on the ~15min or so walk through the haunted manor so the mad doctor made it really personal as he confronted us through different rooms in the manor. I would assume there are usually larger groups that go through so it wouldn't usually feel so private. I honestly felt like it was my own personal play that I got to experience without anyone else in the audience really up close. Definitely an experience to remember and one I would recommend to anyone going to Galveston for a short and unique thing to do for a great price. read more

So while we were in Galveston, we decided to stop by the haunted house/pirate thing to see what was inside. This dude (the guy who supposed to play some mad doctor ) came out made some witty haunted convo and just kinda waited for the next customer. My dad liked his make up and said you did the face but how come not the ear? (His eat was completely flesh color) and this JERK answered back in the most sarcastic tone. Saying along the lines well your welcome to do my job and my dad said I was just noticed it and the guy said well next time don't say anything. Then my dad said alright we'll leave and this guy said good or whatever under his breath. Point is don't go to this joke of an establishment. read more

Epic fail !!! This was not a haunted house....this was a dark hallway in my apartment when my little brother jumps out at me from the bathroom wearing a doctor costume from party city. The pirate exhibit was wack too. The whole pirate exhibit could have been used as the entry way for a low-budget seafood restaurant like Captain D's. So my boyfriend and I paid $13.25 each for the so called haunted house and the pirate exhibit. The haunted house does not have several actors. It only has one person, which is the doctor guy you see on the website in the youtube video. Also, for the people who left positive 5 star reviews, I think you guys are friends and family members at best. Perhaps the owner offered you guys some free beer for posting fake reviews. Here is the haunted house in a nutshell: Part 1 ( 3 minutes ) Front desk lady gives you 2 sentences about the flood of 1900 and all the dead bodies that remained. Part 2 (5 minutes feels like 50) You wait at the front of the haunted house to watch a video about house rules and then some chick comes on the screen with a poor attempt to scare you before the actual haunt. Part 3 (10 minutes feels like 10 days) The TV screen tells you to enter into the house. Now the doctor (aka the only actor in this so called haunted house) talks to you about his poor dead wife Sara and how he needs your eyes. At times he pauses and you think the haunt is going to start but then you realize the pauses are either because he is killing time or forgetting his lines. Part 4 (2 minutes feels like 2 milliseconds) Finally, you are allowed to go into a room/hallway/foyer/ or whatever. You turn a corner 3 times and each time the doctor pops out. Now your so called haunt is over. Part 5 (3 minutes feels like 3 years) Now your are back in the front where you started, he tells you to scream really loud. This is the same scream you heard from the group that was ahead of you when you were forced to listen to that stupid chick on the screen. So I guess customers are also being used for free-labor. The doctor guy tells you to open the door 3 times and each time its locked then he opens a faux-trap door. Part 6 (optional) (2 minutes/however long you wish to torture yourself) If like me your were foolish enough to pay the extra $3 for the pirate exhibit. Overall, the website gives real meaning the old cliche "advertising is everything". The horrible actors in the youtube video should be ashamed of lying to people and taking their money. Don't be mislead. spend you weekend doing something else in Galveston. DON"T WASTE your money. The 2 girls at the frond desk were friendly though. read more

It was a fun beginning they really placed a lot of work into this. The actors where really into their characters. I went by my self but they did not half ass it like I thought they might do. The guy that was the doctor actor really placed 110% in to their character even the person working the counter and the other pirate exhibit where into there characters I would come back with friends if I didn't live in Michigan. 9/10 read more

The kids and I were walking The Strand and this place caught our eye. My kids have been going through a "ghost/scare" phase so we walked in to see what it was about. It's connected to a Pirate Museum, and for a discounted amount you can pay to do both. I suggest paying for both if you're interested in at least one. I don't think either is worth the admission, but my kids wanted to do it so we did. The "Haunted Manor" is something you'd expect to see in someone's backyard on Halloween. The actors really play the part, so you can't fault them there. But the scares are cheap tricks and it's mainly just navigating a dark, plywood hallway while sounds and screams and strobe lights distract you. I would definitely not go back nor would I suggest anyone going here. There's much better things to spend your money on in Galveston. read more

There was literally a total of 5 people working there on the Saturday night that my boyfriend and I went -- there was a chick doing zombie makeup for $10, a chick that you pay for tickets, a guy that entertains you while in line, and a guy that entertains you in line and is the sole scarer in the whole place (saw another guy while in line, but not while in the haunt). Yeah, the backstory was interesting but the "manor" itself was cheaply built and offered nothing but cheap scares, about 4x. We waited about half an hour to start the tour and it lasted maybe 10 minutes. You start in a room and hear a story from the "doctor" then move on down a winding hallway and end up in another room with the "doctor" and then you leave. Wasn't scary, looked cheap and didn't like that I only had one person going through the "behind the scenes" to try to scare you by popping through plywood walls randomly. Definitely would NOT rank this third scariest in the country -- I would go back to Cutting Edge in Fort Worth and wait almost 2 hours in line again over this for sure!! read more

Excellent haunted house! They even scared my partner which is extremely hard to do. Think Vincent Price, Hitchcock, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi - classically scary, with twists and turns you don't expect. The historically-accurate story makes it all the more deliciously frightening!
