This was so much fun to do with our kids!!! We booked Hidden treasures of Jean Lafitte and went back for a second time to do the Escape the storm room per Kids request!!! My son is 13 and my daughter is 11 years old and we couldn't have done it without them!! Highly recommend to book any of the rooms when you're out visiting Galveston! It's a bonding and memorable experience!!! They are also adding an awesome Virtual reality game room that my son had an opportunity to see. He wants to go back next year already!! What a fun fun experience! We wanted to try something different for my mom's birthday and since it's so hard to shop for people that have everything, we thought an experience would be a fun. A few of us had done escape rooms before, so we made sure to reiterate that tensions can run high when time starts to run out and we would just have to really be kind to each other while we are locked in a room together. I wish I could remember the name of the game master because he was delightful. He had such a great personality and immediately engaged us in conversation while other member's of our party used the restroom before game time. Allison, one of the owners, was also lovely when I initially called to get some information about the game room. She helped me pick the best room for us consider we had some first-timers. This escape room is not as high tech as some of the others BUT it is in keeping with the theme. We did the "Unlock the lost Treasures of Jean Lafitte" which was set back in a time before smart phones and Roomba robot vacuums. There was enough in the room that we could keep the youngest member busy looking around for clues while also digging for. Info ourselves. If you ever do these rooms with kids, then you know sometimes the puzzles can get a little over their head and they tend to stand there bored, so this room was perfect. We did finish in time, but I read several reviews that stated these folks do their best to let you stay a little extra to finish if you go over the hour. The game master also mentioned that to us and that is AMAZING. This is the first game room that I have been to that gives you that little perk. This is a small business that I will definitely go back and support the next time our group is in Galveston. read more

We live here on island and had friends visiting so we thought this would be a perfect activity to introduce them to Galveston history. We picked the great storm room. We were greeted by a teenager who had no enthusiasm at all. We've done many other escape rooms and there's normally an introduction/story/rules but he just led us to the room and shut the door. Multiple things/clues didn't work and the host would just tell us what the clue was supposed to be. When we made it to the second half of the room our "host" actually came in and showed us all the clues and how it worked without us asking. It had only been about 30 minutes at this point. He even stayed in the room, which was weird, and kept telling us where all the clues were located. Due to the fact he gave us all the answers we were out of the second part in less than 5 minutes. There was no fun photos at the end or recap that is common with every single other escape room we've done. The worker followed us out, locked the door, and he also left. Definitely not the best escape room but it was a fun family activity. We did the attic room and lots of the items were pretty ran down or broken, lots of distraction clues and very chaotic for it only being one room. Probably won't return to this specific location unless some updates are done. read more

The reviews for this place were great, so we booked an 8:30pm room for Escape the Storm. The man that greeted us was so welcoming and explained everything before leaving us to figure out the clues. We had never done one, so this was definitely a HUGE challenge but, all we had to do was yell "HURRICANE" and he helped us. He did not let us give up, which I appreciated. He was a great sport. We went two hours over our time, and he never rushed us. A great place to go. Definitely would bring more than 2 people to help. Would return to try other rooms. read more

My husband and I have done a lot of escape rooms together (probably between 30 and 40 I would say), and the Elevator at Escape the Island was probably one of our least favorite rooms that we have done. Although this room was fairly low tech (lots of combination locks), what bothered us was the fact that a lot of the puzzles contained too many assumptions that you had to come to yourself. There needs to be a balance between challenging puzzles and a logical flow, or else you take all the fun out of doing the room. The woman (who I assume is one of the owners) was so kind and we enjoyed her coaching us through the room. We also appreciated how nice she was with sanitizing the space to make the experience as safe and clean for us as possible. read more

Meh. The idea is good, but as with many things in Galveston, it is run down and thrown together. Of course we didn't try all of the experiences, only one, but come on guys. This was my first time doing an escape room. My sister-in-law accidentally booked their hardest room. They love escape rooms, and wanted to do one with us. We had a large group, but the room itself was big enough. It was very challenging! We needed several clues. Just when we thought it was completed, we opened the door to a second room. Lol! The guy working was so kind and patient with us. He never kicked us out, even after 2 hours. We finally gave up when we were too tired and hungry. He explained all the rest of the clues and solutions. Overall, it was a fun experience for people who like puzzles and clues. I'd love to go back and try a less challenging room since it was my first time. read more

The game master was super nice and told us the rules. We managed to sort through the room in just over one hour. This a must visit venue! My team/group and I had a blast! The staff is highly professional and very accommodating. The room is challenging, so teams of 3 to 5 are highly encouraged, as it is a mix of puzzles and clues, both pattern-based as well as math and other signs. However, this venue/establishment is quite accommodating to make it a unique experience for you and your group. Our team is very stage/dramatic, and used this venue for improvisation as part of the development of a literary background/context and story/scene development. The staff was enthusiastic and quite accommodating with our special requests to begin the escape room (loosely) tied to chairs, with gags over our mouths, for a more realistic movie scene start to the Escape Room. --They assisted with the application of both, while reading a prepared background / context to the scene we were building. When we got to the location it smelt of smoke and the lady who was working seemed very out of it and tired and when we got there she was walking her dog which I can understand so we waited in her living room for like ten minutes then she takes us to the escape the basement room it looked ok she barely explained the rules or story and one lock was broken when we finally got started with the room it was very hard to ask for clues and the clues around the room were very uninformed and hard to understand about half way through the lady came in and checked up on us and like ten minutes later we hear her snoring but the other group wakes her up then we finally got to the last clue about an hour and fifteen minutes in which is over the hour time limit and we decide we're done since we can't get help and she's not responding when we walk out we can hear her snoring again really loud this time and we see her on her couch asleep which the couch is in a different room from the camera monitor and she had already locked the door to the business like she was done working for the day and we had to yell like five times to get her to wake up when she did she said she had been working since eight am and she had to unlock the door to let us out she did give us a refund though read more

We chose the hardest room the Balinese and we were about 20 minutes away from finishing and the owners were wonderful and let us finish out the experience past the hour timeframe. I have been to many escape rooms. This one was very disappointing. We did the CSI. They first took us to the room and told us we would watch a video first. It took a while for us to figure out how to the old school projector. When we did, it was completely out of focus and hard to watch. The "hints" they give you are basically non existent. It appeared to be "thrown together". The last puzzle we worked on was a treasure box and the clue to figure out the code for the lock was incorrect. When we called for help, we were told it was supposed to be 9 and the "captain" said, "where did that 10th one come from?" And took the clue with him. Very unprofessional. We heard them laughing at us over the intercom when we asked for help. Unfortunately, I had two newbie players with me and I am certain from this experience they will probably never try it again. Very disappointing. Save your money and create your own. I'm sure you can do better than what you get here. read more

As a group of nine women-friends, we signed up for The Hidden Treasures of Jean Lafitte for an evening diversion while on our annual weekend trip to Galveston. This is our second venture in an escape room activity and we found Escape the Island to be challenging, engaging and rewarding. Unlike our prior experience, this had a few "Red Herrings", all successful in throwing us off track. I like it that our search for combination clues included all levels of problem solving skills- analytical, mechanical, logical, and creative. Every participant has different skill sets that provide critical contributions at varying stages of the game. Everyone's a winner... even if the time limit is breeched. As seems the norm, the "scene" is homemade and crafty- not a factor that deters from the fun. The staff was super friendly, encouraging, gave hints without giving away answers, and truly seemed to look forward to our return. What an awesome experience! Tonight was my first time in an escape room and it was a blast! We did the Balinese Room and it was challenging yet fun! I definitely want to come back and try the other rooms in the future! They definitely had this puzzler stumped multiple times throughout the hour but the great thing about having a group of 4 is that you can put your minds together to work though it! We had the best time exploring the Balinese room for my sons 21st Birthday. 5 escape room participants was the perfect size as we used reason and logic to work through the very challenging room. What to do when you come the night before a cruise? Go here!!! There were only 2 of us so we didn't want to tackle a more involved room so we chose Escape the Elevator. We have done over 60 escape rooms so we weren't sure if it would be challenging enough. It was great. A variety of puzzles. But the room wasn't even the amazing part. ALLISON!!!! What an awesome lady. Since we had no car, she picked us up from our hotel AND took us back!!! This family owned escape place is fantastic. I had a good time. The clues were sometimes challenging but allowed a nice progression. When we needed help, the solutions were never given outright, only hints, leaving us with the pleasure of " solving the clue " by ourselves. While not as immersive or high tech as other commercial offerings, we were given the luxury of time: we arrived early and were able to start right away, and when we went over the allotted hour, we were given the time to finish the room and find our escape. Other commercial entities would have made us wait until the room is available and then kicked us out after exactly 60 minutes. That alone makes the difference. My advice: book a time where the room you want will be available before and after your adventure. read more
