Over the years, it has become more and more touristic but it's also still a place loved by many locals. They serve a lot of local beers, in particular the bitter, dark Alt which is typical from this area. Their menu offers a lot of dishes from the regional German cuisine including the renowned Rheinischer Sauerbraten (roast beef), Mettfleish (raw pork) and a lot of various wurst (sausages). The service is fast and prices are fair. It can get quite packed so it's always good to book well in advance.

The weather was a bit dreary so everyone was sitting inside for once. Our server spoke perfect English but he was a bit rough around the edges. This was the only restaurant we went to where English was already on the menu. The menu consisted of starters & soups, house specialties, fish and dessert. There also was a seasonal sheet and a few daily specials including a business set menu (€15,50). - Alsterwasser (€3,20 for 0.30L) - light beer with lemonade. This was a mix of pilsner with a splash of lemonade. - Himmel & ähd (€12,50) - blutwurst (fried black pudding), mashed potatoes, fried onions and stewed apples. Not sure why but their fried onions don't come hot nor crispy. The blutwurst was interesting; lightly crisped and the filling was tasty. Mashed potatoes were buttery. - Metzgers leibgericht (€14,50) - three sausages (mettwurst, thüringer art bratwurst and krakauer) with sauerkraut and homemade mashed potatoes. Mettwurst was a thicker, meatier, minced pork sausage. Krakauer (similar to a a Polish kielbasa) was slightly salty but had a good bite. Bratwurst was our favourite of the bunch; easily the tastiest and most flavourful. Sauerkraut was hot and well balanced in acidity. Mashed potatoes were the same (wish they would let you choose other sides to try). An enjoyable last German meal (and for once, not too heavy). 3.5 stars.

A couple nights ago we had the steak filet (very good) and the lamb filet (fantastic). After being seated, fresh warm rolls with butter are brought to the table. We had a beer and a Shiraz (super). The Shiraz paired well with the lamb, which was served in a wine sauce. Really. It was amazing. Green beans wrapped in bacon and two potato au gratin stacks were served with the lamb. Everything was perfectly cooked and the flavors, well-balanced. The dessert served with the lamb dinner was a chocolate mousse which I didn't really care for. It wasn't bad, rather, a bit too sweet after the dinner and there wasn't enough of the chocolate flavor. It came with a small scoop of what I think was caramel ice cream. This was delicious. There is a main dining room and several smaller rooms, all of which have wonderful architecture and individual charm. The service is unsurpassed. TIPS: 1) Make a reservation! 2) Perfect for a casual meeting, business meeting or a romantic night out. 3) Although, people do take their kids here, it's not recommended unless your kids are very well-behaved. Wenn es rein französisch wäre, hätte ich einen Crémant als Aperitif gewählt, dann evtl. Leberpastete danach Nieren in Senfsauce und als Nachspeise Tarte Tatin. Das gibt es hier nicht, dafür aber einen Prosecco, unfassbar gute deutsche Weine sowie einen extrem leckeren Wein aus Aragón sowie Eau de vie und diverse Cavados(e)? - keine Ahnung wie hier die Mehrzahl heißt (Calvis?). Schwerpunkte sind auf jeden Fall: ein unglaublich guter Ziegenkäse (besser und frischer wird er auch in Frankreich nicht angeboten) sowie ein "Schwein", das seinesgleichen sucht. Es wir von Mönchen im niederländischen Limburg aufgezogen und nur an wenige Restaurants verkauft - unglaublich lecker! Durch die dicke Fettschicht und, da es hier zusätzlich am Knochen serviert wird, kann ich sagen, dass ich nie ein saftigeres und geschacksintensiveres Schweine-Karree gegessen habe! Schön wäre es, wenn es einen Kochkurs über das "Kloster-Schwein" oder den Ziegenkäse gäbe. Nur anhand des Namens "Un(fass)bar" (das Fass ist als Bild im Logo dargestellt) und weil es keine Speisekarte auf der Website/facebook gibt, ist es auch eher schwierig die Geschacksrichtung der Küche zu deuten ohne selber da gewesen zu sein.
