Malia returned my call and scheduled a video appointment for me. There was a 2 month wait, but…read morethat's because of Dr. Ah Loy's diagnostic skills and equipment. He ordered a gastric emptying study and blood tests. No diagnosis yet but Kaiser just approved another 2nd opinion visit for my unexplained weight loss. Dr. Ah Loy can perform many procedures and asks the right questions. He listens well, is thoughtful and empathetic. Highly recommend!

These nudniks have been giving me the runaround for a year and a half now!…read more Earlier last year, they scheduled me an appointment re: my doctor's referral. The appointment was scheduled for around July. They kept calling me to confirm and I confirmed. In fact, they called me MULTIPLE TIMES to confirm, and I confirmed. A few days before the appointment, they cancelled saying they couldn't treat me because I have a pacemaker. Okay, fine. Earlier THIS year, they called me to schedule another appointment for today (06/10/25.) I'm thinking, "Great! They sorted things out, I'm good to go!" In fact, last MONTH they called me to schedule the PROCEDURE in August. And just like the FIRST time, they kept calling me to confirm and I did. In fact, they sent me TEXTS, and I'd confirm those too. Just like anybody else would, I'm thinking we're all on track! Then I go in for the appointment today: Me: "Hello, I'm here for my appointment." Receptionist: *puzzled "Uh, hhmm... what's your name?" *I give her my name Receptionist: *checks computer "Oh, your appointment was cancelled." Me: *trying to remain calm "Wait a minute, how can that be? I talked to you guys confirming, even confirmed with your texts!" Receptionist: *checks computer "It's saying here we reached out to confirm your appointment but never got an answer." Me: "Yeah, nah... I TALKED to you guys! Confirmed BOTH appointments. I even confirmed your texts!" *show her the texts Receptionist: *checks computer "Do you have a pacemaker?" Me: "Yes! We've discussed this. You guys KNOW this!" Receptionist: "Well, we can't treat you. You'll have to find another referral from your doctor." Me: "My doctor has sent out referrals and YOU GUYS are the ones who keep scheduling appointments with me!" Receptionist: "Well unfortunately, I can't help you." I left politely, but I gotta tell ya... I was FUMING! I can see one inconvenient screw up, but the same screw up TWICE?! And over a year and a half?! Avoid this place like they shot your dog!

However, his PA Dennis Avarro has been consistently rude and even condescending. I would actually recommend this office overall, but I have to give the 2-star rating because of the blatant disrespect that we received on these occasions. Here are a couple examples: On a follow-up visit, we consulted with Dennis Avarro about my father's heart condition. When doing the assessment of his weight and diet and about the effects on my father's health, he stated, "Then why are you still fat?" - this was not said in a joking manner. Although my father might have had a near-MI episode in the past, Dennis' brain needs to get checked for hypoxia because of how irritable he is. We request Dr. Shikuma specifically now. On our last visit, we were greeted at the desk and asked to wait in the office. While we were waiting, coincidentally, a young Hawaiian woman stormed out of the exam room and stated loudly something to the effect of, "Just bill me, I don't care. So unprofessional!" She spoke with the person at the front desk and left. We already knew who examined her. It definitely wasn't the Dr. She was livid to say the least. All credit to Dr. Shikuma, as he sees these conditions every day and really demonstrates the professionalism that a FACC, or any physician, should exude. I'm just unsure of why he hasn't recognized his physician assistant as his weak link. In the meantime, such blatantly negative experiences round this review out to a 2-star. I wholeheartedly (yup, pun intended) believe that establishments that deserve a good review are only those that are capable of delivering consistently. Dennis causes this office to be inconsistent in patient care.

This was hands down the worst experience I've ever had…read more My original appointment had to be rescheduled because they didn't have the right ultrasound tech. Frustrating, but I was understanding. When I returned for the rescheduled appointment, I was running late (my fault), but after trying to call three times to explain I was stuck in traffic, I was met with attitude. Not exactly the welcome you hope for when already stressed. The ultrasound itself was awful. This was my first ultrasound with this baby -- a huge, emotional moment -- and the tech made it miserable. Instead of showing me anything, she made me lie back and stare at the ceiling for nearly 10 minutes without a word. When I sat up, desperate just to glimpse the screen, she told me to lie down and stop. I explained how excited I was, hoping she'd show some warmth. She didn't. No reassurance, no kindness. I laid there crying -- twice -- and she still said nothing. It was heartbreaking. To make it worse, my husband wasn't allowed in because we had our daughter with us (who would've quietly sat on his lap). I understand policies, but this was an incredibly important family moment that deserved more compassion. Compared to my previous pregnancies, this experience was night and day. Other places tell you measurements, heartbeat details, and make it exciting. Here, I wasn't told anything until the very end -- just a quick glimpse of the baby's head, body, and legs. That was it. I didn't even get the information I went in for, to confirm how far along I was. If you have a choice, go somewhere else. I highly recommend LIV -- they are kind, allow children, and make expecting families feel truly cared for. That's what every mother-to-be deserves. In short: I expected a warm, special experience seeing my baby for the first time. Instead, I was ignored, dismissed, and left devastated with no information about my baby.
