Although, this league tries to be competative, year after year it doesn't get better for the sake of the kids playing in the league. Most of the coaches, not all of them but most of them seam to have the syndrom of not making a team in their younger years, and trying to make up for it in a community league such as this one, which is sad. I can understand if the teams from this league has the talent to show up every year to the "Little League World Series," but they don't. Just go out there and make sure the kid has fun. Dear Parents: Don't be fooled with this league. Be prepared to experience that your child is not good enough to be on a certain team, which is the Leagues own opinion. There are other leagues out there that are way better than this one. Don't get me wrong, there are great families in this league, but I do question the coaches and the upper management of the league.

Great place for kids volleyball that is well-established and has been in the business of teaching…read morevolleyball and participating in competitive volleyball locally and nationwide for all age groups and has a history of great players who played for this club owned by the Legend of Beach Volleyball Kevin Wong and Mrs. Sheri Wong. The facility is draped and saturated with winning trophies and banners. Great coaches here, and got to meet some amazing families and players as well. This club is located at the heart of Honolulu. Facility is top notch...has 3 courts, weight room, meeting rooms, film rooms, recovery room, lounge area outside and inside. Parking might be tight but no worries, you will find parking. Lots of eating places nearby. They also run clinics every Sunday I believe and beach volleyball as well.

Multiple bad encounters with different coaches, but the one that stands out is a male coach at the 14s level. Completely no class, swearing at his own players, refs, etc. Has a bad reputation in the club world. If I had a big enough club with a name like SAS, I would definitely do a better job of who I hire to represent our club name. Yes, his team does win, but at the expense of his girls' mental health and referees.

The University of Hawaii has produced many outstanding athletes and provided local residents with hours of entertainment! I was more up to date on volleyball when the coach was Mike Wilton. Those were crazy, fun times when fans would be dancing in the aisles, doing the Wave, holding up signs for their favorite players, bringing lei and goodies for the teams, and playing creative half-time games! The players who stood out the most for me were Aaron Wilton (son of the Coach), Jason Ring, and Yuval Katz, Sivan Leoni, and Naveh Milo (the three Israelis). Those players and a few other guys were so popular that they had to hide in laundry carts to leave the arena! They were Rock Stars! The Stan Sheriff Center would be sold out and the parking lot would be full! I don't know why the hype died down. I haven't been to a game in a long time until this season. My cousin's son, Kupono Fey, is a senior this year. I've been to the first two games of the year - he and the team have not disappointed. As an outside hitter, Kupono has set, dug, served, killed, and blocked so well! The teenie boppers have started to come out again, so this should be an exciting year for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors! This was a 5k night run at Kualoa Ranch. Some people (probably because they didn't read the…read moreinstructions didn't register) didn't get a headlight. If you didn't have a light, it probably was a little more challenging as this was at night, hence the name "Nite Run." Right from the start one of our friends got injured as she didn't see the cattle guard and her foot went through the metal bars making a huge bump on her shin. What was messed up was that the other cattle guards were coned off to avoid them and to go around but not the first one. I felt bad for her but when she said she was going to suck it up and still do it I kicked some dirt on her and said see you at the finish line. I'm joking, I just kicked some dirt on her. Like I said the run was a 5k. It was for the most part on a dirt roadway. There was a pretty steep part that kind of kicked my butt. I thought I was going up Koko Head for a minute. Argh, Kill me now! lol They said there were supposed to be some kind of brain test or something as well as strength test which they had. I believe they went over the question and what the correct answer was supposed to be but what looked like a place they might have had someone asking you a question, there was no one, no one anywhere which was a little disappointing. Maybe next time they will have something. Another thing that was disappointing was that you didn't have to do the strength test and made it optional. One was you had to grab a sandbag (maybe around 10lbs) and carry it and go under a couple of beams. Next one was walking on rope (around 20'). It did get bottle necked as some people took forever to cross and when some fell they ran back and tried again. The wait time was around 12 minutes or so. They had at least 5 different lines. They also had another type of obstacle course... If you remember the movie Pretty Woman when they were on the Polo Field and the announcer says to "avoid the Steaming Divot." That's right, there were horse manure here and there that you had to hopscotch around. As most know Jurassic Park was filmed there and one part of the course you could hear dinosaurs in the background. Just thought that was cool of them. Maybe if one came out I would of ran faster. I heard that they ran out of some headlamps and t-shirts but was able to get more by the time people finished. Water stations were around the course. Free water, gatorade. At the end they brought out some free desserts. Had a couple of food vendors, music, Mc, and acrobatic act. Pretty fun event, especially when doing it with cool people.

Recently did the "Nite Run" at Kualua Ranch. I have to say, I LOVED it! It was not only fun (at…read morenight! Headlamps! Costume contest! Obstacles! Cows mooing LOL!) BUT it was pretty tough!! After doing the Glow Hawaii Run the night before (easy, shorter than advertised) it was nice to be able to really push myself and race. The trail was mostly dirt road but there were areas that were gravel road, grassy areas,etc. Started up a hill, did an obstacle, more killer hill, followed by another hill. Didn't expect that! Race was also longer than a 5k, didn't expect that either LOL! ;) There were a few cow patties and cattle gates so just trying not to break an ankle kept me really paying attention to where my feet were LOL. The whole set up was great. Great food venders, plenty of potties, easy packet pickup and we parked pretty close to the race area so heading back to the car was easy if you needed to put stuff away. NO FEE for parking. Loved that too. So many races make you park far away, pay for parking, pay to "store" your stuff they give you at the race,etc. I loved that I didn't feel nickel and dimed for this event. I purchased it as a Living Social deal and it was easy-peasy to get my tshirt, headlamp and number. LOVED that we were all chipped, gave me more incentive to run and try to get a decent time. They did run out of headlamps w/batteries (LOL) but we got there early so we got ones w/batteries. I'd definitely do this race again. I can't wait until they plan another one!!

Eh, nevermind that every team in the league automatically makes it to the play-offs, K. And, nevermind that the Brewers probably wouldn't have made the play-offs based on their regular season performance, otherwise, K. The Brew Crew won against teams stacked with ringers when it counted -- and for about twenty people (plus or minus five or six indifferent girlfriends on the sidelines), last night was when it counted the most. If it's proven to not be a fluke in the next few seasons, I say the Brewers test their worth in an affiliated league with a bit more competition.

Awful experience, the staff lack basic communication skills and customer service. My friend and I…read morehave been over-policed twice with ridiculous rules (which we then apologized for and complied), and one of the staff (pictured here) accused my friend of flipping him off, she never did that, and we were leaving. I was trying to be logical and communicate with him, and he got in my face saying it's on the cameras? Yet when I ask to see the footage he stood silent. I believe my friend was racially profiled. We are just graduate students trying to get a workout together. It was a ridiculous and asinine experience. I don't feel safe going to the gym here at UH Manoa which I pay with my tuition.

It took forever for the state/UH to build this facility, but it's now open and it's a HUGE…read moreimprovement to what was available to students and staff previously. The check-in desk can get a little crazy during peak times, since it's run by students and everything is new, but I'm sure with time it'll run a lot smoother. This rec center has it all - indoor track (walk/run counter clockwise or get scolding like how I did), cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, group exercise rooms, and an open basketball/volleyball court. Group fitness classes are available for free for students and faculty/staff with memberships: spin, powerplates, boxmaster, TRX, circuit training, and more. There are day use lockers both outside of the locker rooms (you do not need a lock to use these) and a few inside the locker room (you need to bring a lock to use these). You can also rent a locker for $75 per year. I'm surprised at how small the locker rooms are, and how few lockers there are. UH is hovering at 55,000 student enrollment plus over 14,000 employees. That's a lot of potential users of this facility, and while not everyone will use the facility or its showers/lockers, I think based on those numbers alone, they should have put in more lockers. The fact that they have already sold out of lockers on the Mens' side proves my point. Towel and laundry service are available for an additional fee. The price you pay depends on your classification. For UH Manoa students, it's free. Faculty/staff, UH Foundation employees and RCUH employees pay $240 per year. There are also daily, weekly, monthly, and 6 month rates. I believe UH alumni who graduated 2008 or later are also eligible to purchase memberships at $300 per year, since they had to pay the Campus Center Operations and Rec fee. But I guess if you attended UH during those years and paid the fee, but didn't graduate, you don't qualify. Although I now have to pay to use the gym (before we got to use the old fitness center on lower campus for free), it's ok, because I'm sure this gym needs the revenue for upkeep and maintenance costs. Generally speaking, government always builds new buildings, but they always have a hard time maintaining them. Now if only their fitness center for their D1 Collegiate athletes could be this good.

I'm not a spray paint my hair/ head the colors of the rainbow and dress in a rainbow flag, I just wear street clothes and my UH t-shirt. Participation is enough IMO. It was fun to go to games with classmates and it is fun to take Special Olympics hopefuls that just enjoy talking to other players before and after the games when we can. As far as I know, one of the Mens UHM basketball team has helped in the not to recent past officiated some of the area games of basketball of the Special Olympics teams. My charges loved shaking hands with them and loved asking the real players if they play basketball (the players were tall and they loved that). So- good on UH and the teams that help out in reality at different Spec Olym games. It really does make the Sp Oly players feel good about themselves. Two words: Title Nine (I know it is Title IX but how else do you say that out loud?) I have gone as I said to UHM volleyball and basketball, By far, there are more real fans for the Womens Bows Volleyball than there are for basketball. There are die hard fans at UH period. But why are tickets for mens BB twice that of womens? Are they twice as good? (looking at the scores - no no no they are not) So - why do I bring up Title IX? We have lost our minds! We are the state responsible for Title IX and Patsy Mink, one of the few women in Congress ever and even fewer Asian women. Title IX is state university money that is tied to making sure men and women have the same ability to enjoy sports during their academic careers. Sounds simple but it's apples to pineapples. I know we need sports at UHM. We have backers and sponsors that use ads and get to have their names all over stuff. I agree- let men play basketball, but please know that fan attendance is low in general. It is an ok game to watch mens BB, but it is not the same as say national Blue Demons from DePaul University in Chicago. Some fans could tell me, 'Darin- look it is not the same division that you are comparing.' I'll answer, "ok- I only played basketball in high school gym class. I still like womens Bows Volleyball better than UHM BB." To go to all the trouble and expense of mens basketball, it really does have to be a labor of love for working adults. There are just better things to do. I liked it more when I was in school at UHM and I enjoy taking participants that have different disabilities but enjoy sports. It is a good clean fun night of entertainment UHM Mens BB. It is so much more fun as a group, and going with some other former school mates. Over all, there are tons of concession stands outside in the center. Overpriced burgers, beer and other cafeteria and gourmet treats. I don't know why so many people seem to eat their dinner there. I always eat or try to eat before hand. I really am there to watch a game when I'm there. Overall- I like UH games and BB is just ok. Just wanted to give my 2 cents that it should have just medium expectations for those that have never gone there before to a UHM basketball game, because based on fan attendance sometimes there are more important things to go to instead of a game. Still- hopefully UHM will continue to offer games and support teams. There are some die hard fans and they love it!
