Summer Reading Program Starting soon!! My kids got loads of good prizes from this!

If you have never taken advantage of the Hawaii Public Library system you are seriously missing out. Why yes they have books but there is so much more. They have a pretty big selection of books, magazines and audiobooks of all kinds. It is a DIYers haven. Studying for a career test or need help putting your resume together? PSH! Why buy the book when you can borrow it here for FREE. Have a kiddo and want a free thing to do? Check out the library and their events. Not only do they have story times, they have bands, cartoonists and other cool events and programs. All FREE! Kdrama addict? Or wish you had a specific movie that Netflix does NOT show? Check out their DVD rental section. Looking for a song or artist? Check out their music library. They probably have it. Don't really want to step into the library? I got you. borrow audiobooks or ebooks on their app. I've borrowed books right on my bed, in the comfort of my own home! I usually come here to find cookbooks, manga and borrow their piano books! (HA! I don't even need to buy sheet music!) The Summer reading program is also a favorite for my kids. Read books, get free stuff! You can't go wrong. Overall, it saddens me when I hear people have never stepped foot into the library. It is such a wealth of information and it is NOT just for bookworms. It's for everyone! It's free to get the library card too! Might as well take advantage and check it out.

Rediscover Your Library On a tight budget? Haven't been on a vacation for a whie? Need a place to entertain your kiddos? Need something free for once that is satisfying? Look no further than your local library! Tips 1. Books A good book will take you to places you have never been. You can RSVP books online on your account if it's not available. They will send it from outer island as well. You can also read E-books with your library account for free. Uh, ask your local librarian about this because I like the old fashioned way. I need to flip the pages. My cute ballerina book mark holds my place. Knowing that I have a due date to turn it in pushes me to read it. 2. Keiki Fun Kapolei's childrens librarian is entertaining. She sings, dances, does finger plays, and provides art for the children. It's usually held on Mondays and Thursdays. 3. $1 Korean Dramas (The Entire Collection!) Yes, you read right. $1 to rent the entire collection of "Stairway to Heaven." Rain your my Korean version of Justin Timberlake. If it's not available you can RSVP it and they will deliver it to the nearest library. You can get notified through the mail. 4. Spring and Summer Reading Program They have adult, young adults, children, and babies reading programs. This year for the adults they offered $50 gift cards to Target and Safeway or an ipod shuffle. Plus there was a weekly prize when you turned it in. 5. Air Condition Spend some quality time with your family during these hot summer days and dive into a book. I think the Kapolei Library has the 2nd biggest childrens section in the state. 6. Forget RedBox or Blockbuster express You can rent a DVD for $1 for the whole week. 7. Free Magazines The nex location it's at the front of the young adult section. 8. Entertainment Usually held on the weekends. They offer a mixture of entertainment during the weekends. This summer they have had a Zumba, Japanese drums, Mad Science of Hawaii, information about hurricanes, just a variety of differnt venues for differnt people. 9. 35 cents library bags These things are durable. They have never let me down by breaking on me. Great investment to carry your books. Purchase them at the check out line. 10. Free Interenet All you need is a library card and your pin to sign in to use the library computer. Remember to silence your phone or don't even attempt to use it in the library. The security guards have lighting speeds and catch me every time. So save the humilation and step outside to make the phone call. The staff here is so helpful and seem to enjoy their job. The library is well kept and clean. Bathrooms are maintained well. Plenty of parking next to the structure. As good as it gets! Yelp Challenge 365: 2/365

Location: Kapolei across of the park where most soccer leagues are held. The park is also across the street from The police station. Next door to the new social security office Parking: big lot of free parking stalls specifically for library goers Beautifully maintained huge two story library Downstairs is young adult on fiction and children's section Upstairs is everything else. I didn't notice an elevator oh flight of stairs. Tons of open space and computers and desks perfect for the large crowds that the west side brings in. Very wonderful and helpful staff!

    It's really nice

So far so good. It's probably like every other library except with MORE cavities seeing that the place is really huge. Only problem was... the directions on Google maps. It said that the "entrance point" was on HAUMEA but it's actually off of MANAWAI STREET. It looks as if there's 2 entrances to the library. One from the street and another from the Parking lot. Right now, we're here to check out a spring break event they're having for the kids. The more books you read and enter in, the more prizes you receive.

Our first visit to the Kapolei library and we had a great time! I've heard so many great things from friends who live in the area and it didn't disappoint. My two little girls don't start school until the end of August and are in need of some brain stimulation. FREE PARKING: We often visit the main library Downtown and having free parking was wonderful! I'm always worrying about forgetting about our meter expiring and getting a parking ticket. There's a huge lot with ample free parking out back. FREE BOOKS: I love free things and the ability to borrow unlimited free library books is amazing! As a kid it feels like you just got $100! I know my kids aren't going to be able to read all the books we borrow but this age is very much about teaching them to love reading. My Grandmother Aiko passed away last year and the greatest gift she gave me, other than a penchant for freshly baked cookies, is a love of reading. Every two weeks she'd take me to the library when I was a kid and I'd devour book after book after book. The children's room at Kapolei library is huge and I was actually pleasantly surprised by the variety. I was able to find almost every book on my list for my 11-year old son as well as a ton of audio books for my daughters to read in the car. FREE DREAMS: I know that people complain a lot about America and all it's problems, but every time I go to the library with my children I feel like we're the luckiest people on the planet. How many children around the world aren't given the gifts of education and the joy of reading? We get to enjoy the dreams and imaginations of so many amazing authors through our public library system. Libraries are a gift so be sure to enjoy them with your family! SIDE NOTE: We can barely carry all our books back to car but that's okay. My daughter likes to pretend she's a pirate and all our books are her treasure. Argghhhh...

Not laptop friendly. Limited outlets and tables. The security literally watch you breathe. Not coming here anymore.

It's a standalone baby-blue building on the left with plenty of free parking right in front. Just note that the library is only open Monday through Friday, and the hours vary by day. SERVICE: From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the security staff, which makes the library feel welcoming. If you need help finding something, don't hesitate to ask. One staff member wasn't able to answer my question, but instead of just pointing me in the right direction, she personally introduced me to the appropriate librarian. The librarian then helped me and even walked me to the correct section. That's the kind of customer service you don't see everywhere. 5/5 SELECTION: This library is definitely a hidden gem. Before visiting, you can search the online catalog to see if a book is available, and I was surprised by how many titles the Ewa Beach branch carries. If they don't have what you're looking for, you can also request books from other Hawaii public libraries. OVERALL: Great customer service, an impressive book selection, and plenty of parking make this one of my favorite neighborhood libraries. I've visited multiple times and have always had a positive experience. 5/5

The ceiling lights remind me of my grandma's old living room! There's useful resources when entering like bus routes, tax forms, the new ENV sewer credit application, etc. The library is organized & reference signs are clear. It's quiet (like it should be). There's computer areas, charging station, children's room, another room in back, a meeting room for activities/games, that you could also rent. There's a atrium (or something like that - see pic). There's free weekly activities for the communitiy to join (what we waiting for)! The staff is friendly and explanatory. Tips: Cash or checks only! Hot list books & DVD's are 1 week rental, all other books, even ukulele's can rent 3 weeks and return to any state public library! You can also do Self checkout if you feeling anti social. Speaking of, it's Mental Health Awareness month & they caringly put out resources, pamphlets & book suggestions to help with that Happy reading!
