We recently went through the process of having to replace our entire roof and got six different quotes from companies. Hawaiian Built roofing was one of the companies we worked with. They were actually in our top two for who we wanted to work with. Even though we ended up not working with them I will say the biggest pro we had for them is that they communicated very well and even made modifications to the roofing quote and met with us a second time in person. The main reason we ended up not working with them was because we didn't feel like they were living up to their "apples to apples" guarantee. In the contract they gave us to look over they stated that if you could a roofing company that would do the exact same job but for less than they would refund the difference and give you a $50 gift card. I ended up getting multiple other quotes that used the same shingle, had the same process for underlayment (ice and water shield, starter shingle etc), however they were roughly $3000-$5000 less than Hawaiian, and they included the Valley Metal. I shared all of this with Saundra and they came back with Option 1 - doing the metal valley and doing ice and water shield on 100% of the house. For the same cost $35,000. Or option 2 - A traditional valley package that would reduce the price by $1500. She also offered to come over to take a more detailed look of everything, which we took her up on. After meeting with her and going over everything she told us that Certainteed was having a sale on some colors of shingles and she would look at those and get back to us. She was able to get the Certainteed in a specific color for $33,000 or the Malarkey Vista in Storm Grey for $33,000. We did some more research and learned that it's not recommended to put ice and water shield on the entire house as it can cause condensation build up if its not put in 100% correctly. We also learned that the Malarkey shingles are a better quality than the Certainteed. The Malarkey also has a better warranty overall. At $33,000 they were still $3,000 over the other company that we were considering that was going to use the Malarkey Vista. After my husband and I talked about it we decided that we didn't feel like they were standing by their apples to apples guarantee. My husband also felt like Sandra was "putting down" other roofing companies. I didn't see it as much as he did. I took what she was saying as trying to explain why their company was "better" than other companies by focusing on the fact that they don't subcontract out etc. I will say that when we told the other company that we were choosing between them and Hawaiian they said "that makes sense, they are our biggest competition." The company we chose doesn't subcontract out either, we made a point of asking and checking the contract for it. We ended up going with the other company who got us the Malarkey Vista shingle with a 50 year non prorated warranty for a couple thousand less than their original quote due to deal they were having. I wouldn't have minded working with Hawaiian Built Roofing, but wasn't willing to pay $5000 more for the same system. read more

We needed our roof replaced. We called several companies and no one replied. We finally were referred over to Hawaiian Built roofing. Sandra came out and gave us a bid. It was competitive. Shows us their benefits of going with them. Showed up different options as well. I asked many mamas questions and she always answered. We had the roof replaced and everything was as she said would be. We're very happy with our new roof. We have a great warranty to go with the new roof. We will be good for a while. We also sign up for the maintenance plan. So twice a year we'll be checked out. Super happy w everything. Give them a call! You won't regret it. read more

I bought my dream home in the northend this past summer and I needed a professional and affordable roofing company to replace the roof and sheeting and also preserve the architectural and design integrity of the home. I've was familiar with Hawaiian roofing through the community and through builders so I gave them a call. I met with two other contractors and in the end I felt Hawaiian was the best value. I am so happy with the end product. I had Hawaiian install a thermo-shield for protection from the heat as well as extra protection from water intrusion. I have avoided writing a negative review for 9 months, hoping to give them a chance to come and make some minor repairs to our roof. They installed our roof, no problems at all, but when we had a couple issues (nails under a membrane roof, some roof anchors working loose and creating wear spots, and a leak at a seam), they have been unwilling to respond and support their workmanship warranty. They even came out to review the issues and gave us a date they would be back, but didn't show. In the months since they have promised NUMEROUS times when they were going to show, and still have not. Recent rains have now finally caused damage to our carpet and baseboards because of this leak. I am saddened to write this review, but we had recommended this company to several people and now can't do so with a good conscience. read more

We were in search of a roofing contractor to not only do a standard reroof, but replace most of our plywood decking which was warped, had moisture damage, and no H-clips. Since a roof is a huge investment, we would only go with a roofing contractor that did a high quality and dependable, professional job. I received a handful of names by top contractors in the valley. Out of those bids, I chose Hawaiian Built Roofing and am very happy that I did! I've remodeled/built homes for over 20 years so I know what to look for when deciding on a sub contractor. Hawaiian Built wasn't the cheapest (which you should never go with) but they weren't the most expensive either, they were right in the middle. Their CertainTeed warranty and professional bid is what made them initially stand out. And I really appreciated the time and attention given to my questions and the knowledge of details/codes to accomplish the final product we were looking for. With Hawaiian Built, the communication was available throughout the whole project and so was the knowledge and expertise. The aren't the fastest (which they'll admit themselves), but they are perfectionists which means I will get a high quality job! I wasn't looking for speed, just a job done right. Also, they supply their own porta-potty which is very considerate. When I had questions, they addressed them promptly and when they ran into issues (insulation problems, poor framing/structure concerns, exhaust pipes and incorrect roof penetrations) from the old roof, they contacted me and explained the details clearly so we could make informed decisions together. Again, I'm so glad that these guys did our roof and I highly recommend them! You won't be disappointed in the job you get. Very honest, high quality, and a job well done!!! read more

We obtained this businesses services for a roof inspection in 10/13. We had a leak in our master bedroom and they said it was the skylight so they replaced it. We paid their fee at that time. When we had the first heavy rain in 9/14 our newly remodeled master bedroom had the same leak and ruined the recently painted wall under the skylight. We called Hawaiian and they sent out a manufacturers representative who said the problem was the window was replaced without replacing the flashing. The house is a 24 year old home. The fact that the flashing was not replaced voided our warranty. We called this business and were told that even though we had the same leak as we originally had they would only fix it if we paid them to come out and do so. They were not at all concerned that the job they did would void our warranty. I would be very careful in having this company do any work as the quality may be poor and they will not stand by their work. read more
