SCAMMERS!!! THIEVES!! BAD BUSINESS!! I went to the salon located at 6404 Telegraph Road in Alexandria, VA. The name on the door reads Isha but the card she gave was Hawish which is her and her sister's name combined. I came her because I was referred by a friend when I mentioned I was looking for someone who could braid short hair because my hair is growing for a pixie cut. Between her pleading with me to cancel my other appointment and Isha's repeated calls boasting about her work. I bit the bullet and came here. I asked the questions I ask every Braider the price for the style, price for the lengths, and if HAIR IS INCLUDED. I was told the price would be between $250-$300 and hair was included. I decided to get the hair a little longer than waist. I got it where she stopped at the top of my behind. Isha did not have anyone help her, when I asked if she was going to have help she stated No, because it's been slow and she wanted to keep all the money. During the time she was braiding my hair after each pack of hair being used she would call out a number to show how many packs she used!! Also, while braiding she would take/make calls. One call in particular was a female whom she kept asking for advice about pricing. By the time she finished my hair whomever she inquired with told her $400. Then Isha kept saying things like it's so long, we started at 7:45, ohh idkk.. she just kept trying to make a justification to charge me more!! By the time she got off the phone and finally told me my price she stated $550!!!!!!!!! Wtf!! I have never in my life paid that much for some trash braids! The knots were huge, the parts were spread far apart like I had alopecia, and the braids were too big for my length of hair! She charged me per pack of hair, for the time it took her to do my hair(alone! No help because of greed) and for the length! I was disgusted!! I was heated!! Then she kept calling and calling!! saying she would give me 50% off of my next visit!! I want my money NOW!! I would never step foot in this scamming salon again!! While she seemed like a nice person at first what she did to me with the overcharging says a lot more about her character, her integrity, and business practices. read more

This is the WORST hair experience I've had in my entire life. It is 100% clear that Isha has no knowledge of hair, hair health etc. and should be reported to the board of cosmetology. First and foremost she was AN HOUR LATE. She strolled in no apology and started my hair. She shampooed my hair and the first time only truly washed my weave. I had to go back and ask her to shampoo my scalp and actually hair in braids. Next she refused to condition my hair because she said you can't use conditioner and leave in conditioner both and that if she did it would be extra. Next she sat me down and began to try blow drying my hair without any heat protectant. I made her out hear protectant. She was not gentle and clearly did not care if she was ripping my hair out or not. After blow drying she tried flat ironing my hair. First the pieces she took were far too large then she blamed her inability to straighten my 4C hair on the fact my hair was too thick. This is not the truth my hair can get silky straight with proper technique which she did not have. To compensate she tried to flat iron each huge strand over 10 times during which I made her stop because she was giving me excessive heat damage without results. In the end she told me she did not have the proper tools to do the service so I was confused why she even took the appointment. Also during the entire appointment she spent time harassing me to zelle or cash app her despite the fact I had already paid her on style seat. I left there having wasted 80 dollars. I wouldn't let Isha touch my hair with a 10 foot pole. STAY FAR AWAY! DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I've gone to Isha 2x now and have been satisfied with her service. She was able to fit me in last minute and she is a quick braider. I've only asked for hairstyles no more than 8 cornrows because I don't like sitting long. I took 1 star away because when I asked the price beforehand by text, she wouldn't give me a ballpark figure. In addition, I wish there was a good mix of hair shades in brown and blonde. I usually have 3 different colors put in when I get braids without being a big deal but it seems Isha wants to only use 1 color. I love the jumbo lemonade braids I got but wish it wasn't too blonde. Isha's personality is friendly, attentive and professional towards me. Although it's a small shop, they play good music and videos to listen to. read more

This review is late on purpose because I wanted to see how long my style would last. Isha is a magician. I came to her the evening before my birthday fully expecting it to take alllllll night long. It was my first time trying blonde knotless braids so I was nervous about how they would turn out. I didn't know that she supplied the hair so I brought my own with me. Isha blended it and it turned out fabulous. She got started around 6 pm and I was done by 10:15 pm. These are waist-length, medium knotless braids y'all! I had a fantastic experience at Hawish salon! I'm seriously blown away because I didn't know about this place after being in the area for so long. I'd previously gone to one of the more popular DC walk-in braiding shops where service is hit or miss and the shop is uncomfortable at times depending on how busy (packed) they are. Hawish salon was clean and comfortable. Most importantly, Isha's knotless braids are so beautiful and neat...very uniform parts and she is fast...smedium braids, mid-back with curly ends in less than 4 hours?!? How?!? Called to make an appointment at 4pm the day of my appointment I arrive at 4pm and she was not finished with her client ( I'm used to this dealing with hair braiders) so I waited patiently for an hour and a half so around 5 :45 she gets started on me. DO NOT GO HERE , OVER PRICED FOR LOW QUALITY WORK!! They lit up my wallet so imma light this review up. I came in before calling about braids they argued about the time I should come in only for me to wait for 40 minutes making it the exact time I called to come anyways. They didn't wanna wash my hair and then washed it in cold water only after I said I would pay 25 dollars for the "service" .They paid NO attention to my hair and I could hear it breaking off in the brush. Halfway through they say it will be 575 dollars for the job. The reason was because it's down to my thighs... spoiler alert it didn't turn out that long. They boiled the ends that were terribly braided without rodding and said it would be extra for curls...My pants were soaking wet afterwards because they didn't dry them...Talking down and badly about previous customers and what price they thought the service should've been while I'm still in the chair. Blow drying or should I say FRYING my natural hair while remarking that I have such long hair. They used a ton of gel which turned white and flaked the next day. I was mortified when I saw the comb in her mouth and quickly looked for barbicide or cleaning solution NONE TO BE FOUND. The lady POINTED TO A RANDOM MAN AND ASSUMED IT WAS MY DAD PAYING ... This is the absolute worst hair braiding experience I have ever had in my life. I'm telling you. My hair was so awful, and took so long, that I burst into tears. They charged me $250.00 for large knotless braids that were so poorly done, that I could not even believe it. I paid via cashapp, and the owner, Isha said that she would refund me. Of course when I requested the refund on cashapp, she declined the refund request. While I was crying in her little dusty shop, she got in my face to tell me that she understood my stress and that I should not do anything to "hurt myself" because "everything is going to be ok." She went on to tell me (very close to my face) that she is a single mother of two and knows stress very well. Then she asked me "is this your first pregnancy?" I was not pregnant. I was bloated. She was just offensive, unprofessional, and on top of that, she is dishonest as she promised a refund and refused to provide one. I really shouldn't have even paid for that trash. I am mixed and my hair tends to be a little harder to braid because it can be slippery. This being said, I expected someone to tell me they could not do my hair if they did not have experience with my hair texture. I ended up waiting about a week or so after getting my hair done from a different salon to see if the same thing happened - but it did not. I got my hair done on July 1st. During this appointment, my stylist tried to do someone else's hair in the middle of finishing mine, which I found to be very rude and inconsiderate of my time. Masks were not required in this salon, which was alarming due to the size and how high up salons are on COVID levels. I also saw a dead cockroach outside of the bathroom. There was a $10 charge for using a credit card, which I was not told over the phone. I was charged $250 even though I was given an estimate of $200. This seemed to be a common trend, as many people debated the price they got over the phone v. what they were asked to pay when they were done while I was there. On July 6th, only FIVE days later, my natural hair began coming out of the braids all over my head. I texted the salon owner to show her and she asked me to come a few days later. I came in, paid for my dog to be at someone's house for the day as I anticipated it would be an all-day affair, just to find out that she would not be doing my hair that day. She asked me to come in again on July 16th. I come in at 7:45 am on July 16th, the time the owner told me to arrive, and she was not there. They originally told me that they should take out my hair, but when I arrived they said I should've taken it out. They then wanted to charge me $100 to take it out!!!! This was overcharging at its finest. They also wanted me to pay an additional $100 for their time. All of this after my hair started coming out within 5 days. I was barely being compensated for the fact that this was not done well and that I had to spend an entire day in the salon yet again.  I decided to leave and go somewhere else. I had an early morning appointment at another salon; that salon called to tell me that they would be late. In a crunch for time, I searched for another salon. The positive reviews for Hawish prompted me to call. Around 8:30 a.m. I called Hawish to check for availability. Isha said that she could take care of me an in hour! What?!! The hours posted by Google says they don't even open until 10, so not only was I shocked that someone answered the phone, but AMAZED that I could be taken care of before opening time. Isha started me on time and gave me THE BEST cornrows I've had thus far. All of the parts were symmetrical, crisp, and perfect. The braids themselves were expertly twisted and picture-perfect; better than the style I showed her on my phone. She uses some very durable and long-lasting products that kept the braids fresh looking. Three weeks later and the braids still look as good as new (of course I tied it down every night). If you're looking for a spot to get your braids done, this is the place! All of the positive reviews are well-deserved. A friend of mine recommended Hawish, so I gladly gave it a try. I've been here twice to get my hair done. The first time I got knotless braids and they were well done, but the woman (Maryam) who did my hair was not punctual. Still, I decided to give the shop a second chance and went for Senagalese twists about six months later. The same woman did my hair and, while punctual, she left about 1.5hrs into my style to wire money. With my hair only partially done, I had to sit for ~35 minutes waiting for her to return. Within a day I discovered that she'd missed a strand of hair at the top of my crown. About two weeks later, two of the twists had begun to unravel. I lost 5 twists (thankfully, none of my hair was attached) during the 5 weeks I kept my hair in this style. I was told the style would last 6-8 weeks, but I was so disgusted by the ratty appearance that I took it all out after 5 weeks. I will not return to this establishment. read more

I was quoted a price over the phone, shared the pic of the style I wanted, and was "good to go". I didn't pay any more than what I was quoted. I arrived on time and Isha was finishing up a sew in. This review is solely based off of the pricing! They gauge you for styles that cost way less at other salons. The braider was good and did a nice job on my braids. But I was charged $250 for waist length, medium size braids. Then charged $6 for each pack of hair that was used! So $274 in total. Meanwhile there was a family of 3 who all got their heads done and were charged $310!!!! I've had waist length braids before and at most was charged $180 and the hair was included in that pricing!!!!! Great work but not worth almost $300 for medium size box braids. read more

The quality of work done was awful. This is what my box braids look like after 36 hours. The owner tried to blame me and my hair texture but I've had braids before and it usually takes a few WEEKS for my natural hair to start coming out of the braid hair. They charged me $200, and not only is the quality bad, the braids are way longer and thicker than I asked for and the picture I showed them. I asked for bra-strap length and got HIP length. So not even what I asked for AND poorly done. My birthday is this weekend and I'm going on vacation next week, and I explained to the owner that I don't have time to get them redone. I asked for a partial refund of $50. The owner said she didn't have $50, which seemed really strange to me, and she offered $20. I asked when I could get the $20 and she rushed me off the phone saying she would call back. Surprise surprise, she did not call back. Had the owner done anything to take responsibility, i wouldn't be leaving this review. i had called the day before to check the price for two french braids and the woman told me each braid would be 12 dollars which is reasonable so i made an appointment for the next day at 10:30 am. The next day i get there at 10:30 and nobody is at the shop yet and eventually a woman comes to open the shop and i had waited there until 11:15 for the woman who was braiding my hair to arrive. mind you none of the other workers were wearing face masks either. so she does my two french braids and i have no complaints about the braids they look good but at the end when i gave her 25 dollars she tried to switch the price and say it's 50 dollars for two braids !??? maybe she saw i was nice when i didn't say anything to her about being late so she thought she could take advantage of me but 50 is too much just for two french braids. what was the whole point of me calling ahead of time and checking the price and making an appointment just for her to be late and over charge me. read more
