The alley opened early and gave him and his classmates run of the place. The building is surprisingly large inside. The vibe is retro, not out of a conscious effort but because it's been kept up with what is likely its original furnishings. I loved the green chairs for lane-side seating and the white and beige checkered lockers. There's a large bar area with games and your typical bar/bowling alley menu; all items are affordable and around $5. Behind the bar is a large smoking porch open to those 21+. In the front of the building is a banquet room with a silk-flower-covered wall on one end and a front porch facade at the either. There's ample floor space and several 8-foot rectangular tables; the kids had a great time running around and helping themselves to a buffet that the parents were allowed to bring in (hot dogs, sloppy joes, cake, hot chocolate, etc.). The owners/managers were super chill; they hung out at the bar to serve anyone who wanted drinks and generally just seemed to have a good time watching the kiddos have the times of their lives - no complaints when they accidentally stepped onto the lanes or decided to climb on the ball return. They let the parents do their jobs and had a good grasp of the behavior that comes from a group of six-year-olds hopped up on sugar and bumper bowling. Prices for regular bowling are reasonable and they've got a slew of other activities to keep the people of Jefferson entertained from karaoke to dart leagues. It's a bit of a drive from Madison, but I'll keep it in mind for some pre- or post-drive-in movie fun!

He never asked if we wanted a menu or if we were interested in ordering any food. In fact, we were hard pressed to know if we were going to get offered another drink! Best stop for bowling alleys in the area was in Janesville. Rivers Edge Bowl had great prices, friendly staff, and excellent food.

But somehow, every time we had a problem, someone was there ready to fix it like we had just activated the Bat-Signal. And they did it with a smile, even though it was VERY obvious they were running around like their lives depended on it. Trace, the Bar/Floor Manager, was clearly doing the work of approximately 47 people at once, and yet somehow still had time to be attentive, kind, and sociable with us. I genuinely don't know how he was doing it. Man was everywhere. Craig and Colton, the Floor Managers, were also fantastic. Every time we had a question or concern, they helped us without ever making us feel like we were interrupting their already chaotic Saturday night. And then Timothy, Trenton, and Austin were equally awesome! At this point, I'm convinced they don't actually hire employees here -- they recruit people who have an unusually high tolerance for chaos and an Olympic-level ability to remain cheerful. The funniest part is that the couple of issues we ran into were almost worth it because we got to interact with all of these guys, joke around, and laugh with them. They somehow managed to turn "well, this game isn't working" into "well, at least we're having a great time." That's customer service done RIGHT. And seriously, HUGE credit to all of them for keeping that kind of energy on a Saturday night. It was busy, and I'm sure a couple of things were going sideways, and I'm sure everyone was running on approximately 3% battery -- yet they were still friendly, patient, and genuinely fun to be around. Food and drinks were basic but good. The space is rather rudimentary, and on really cold winter days gets a bit chilly. Still, the open spaces are well organized and set up.
