Other companies I'd met with were more like high-pressure sales pitches with little substance. Their prices were good, and on the lower side of what I had been quoted elsewhere. Their employees were knowledgable and efficient. The whole process took about two days, and boy did they work hard! The crew showed up at 7:00am and worked until 7:00pm the first day. My only criticism is that the crew showed up at 6:30 am the second day, before I even got out of bed -- and it was a bit jarring to wake up to people walking around on my roof. But that being said, the whole process was efficient and transparent, and I will DEFINITELY use them again next time I need a new roof!

The house we now own is brand new. What prompted me to review this company is the owner's comment about their "smooth as glass" finishes without any nail hole marks and such. I also noticed that this company used the appropriate paint finish for trims and hallways and such, which means they received proper training. We've hired a painting company in the past that loved to use matte finishes everywhere, including high traffic areas. Within 2 weeks, these high traffic areas quickly developed marks and handprints, so the walls had to be repainted with washable paint. I also noticed that the "after" photographs of worn materials were fixed, patched up, and painted to "like new" condition! Incredible. Looks way better than the paint finishes in our brand new house, btw. Their prices are also very reasonable. We're finishing our basement bathroom and I wanted to hire this company ASAP---until I realized they're in a different state about an hour away from us. Boohoo.

He said that his quote was too low when he showed up to start work and didn't want to do the job. And then, after he said he'd give it a try, he quit in the middle of the job to work on another job. Here is the whole story. I hired Steve in September to clean and stain my large deck. He said he didn't need to come over to see it. I should just send him pictures, which I did, along with the dimensions. He quoted me a price for cleaning and a price for staining. There was a lot of rain in September here. When there were finally a few dry days, Steve came over to clean the deck. He immediately told me that the deck was huge and he would lose a lot of money at the prices he quoted. I offered to give him some extra money. He was still unsure whether to do the job but said he'd start and "see how it goes". Although he does have a pressure washer, he didn't bring it. He intended to spray on the cleaner and then just hose it off. Our deck needed a better cleaning than that, so I started scrubbing it (with a special scrub brush that I had bought) after he sprayed on the cleaner. This worked pretty well. Steve then borrowed the brush and continued to use it. He did a mediocre cleaning job. My wife and I did some additional cleaning after he left. There continued to be a lot of rainy days. After another week or so, Steve contacted me and told me that he wouldn't be able to complete the job. He had another job for a builder, I think, that he had to start. And he didn't know if or when he could come back. So, I had to go hire someone else to stain the deck.

He claimed he was capable of doing that work and we hired him in good faith. He made some egregious errors which caused flooding and water damage that was discovered in 2024. Uber our toilet the blocking was gone and the hole under our toilet was too big. He also never sealed the toilet in the floor so you could just wiggle it around in the bathroom floor! A professional contractor would never make these mistakes. Water leaked underneath our bathroom, kitchen, and dining room floors and they all had to be torn out. We had to pay for the repairs out of our own pocket so we are currently $30,000 in debt. We are still fighting with his insurance to pay for this! DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN.

Bad points about the job, he left shims sticking out from the countertops, which caused a space between the countertops and cabinets. I already bought thin cove molding to fill in that space once the shims were cut off. He kept telling me he would take care of it but never did. I oginally wanted small 4" X 4" tiles to be used as a backslash, but he talked me into getting bigger tiles. I don't what kind of caulking product he used but the tiles are now separating from the countertop, now I'm going have to hire someone to recaulk them. I was going to hire him for another job for painting a bedroom and to put flooring in a closet. He was telling me , I should buy new baseboards, my wood baseboards are in good condition but just needed a paint job. I wanted vinyl sheeting in a small closet off the bedroom because there is a water heater in that closet, which had carpet and was pulled up because of a water leak from the water heater. He told me he wouldn't put vinyl sheet flooring in that closet. He told me to buy vinyl plank which I did which was not cost effective for a small closet. When I told him I was buying my carpet from Home depot or Lowes, he told me so you are going to trust them to lay the carpet. He told me he could bring some carpet samples for me to look at which will be cheaper then Lowes or Home depot and that he would put the carpet in. He never bought me any carpet samples to look at. He tries to manipulate you into buying things that is not necessary and costs effective. New baseboards went back to the store and so did the vinyl plank that I bought. Bedroom and baseboards now painted, vinyl sheet used for the flooring in the small closet, new door built to my water heater closet and carpet installed by Lowes.

The estimate came way below the other 2 we got. We didn't go with them because if price.... but the initial inspection. The crew of 5 guys were amazing. They arrived at 8 and got right to work after setting up. No radios, no one smoking and no breaks till 12 noon. An hour tonthe minute they were back to work. We had an issue with wood roof members and I decided to re apply the entire roof with new wood. We weren't taken advantage of and still came below the other estimates. Clean up at 6 each night WS done in a manner you'd never really know they were there. When we needed the additional wood it arrived in time for the install. Job supervisor dropped the job twice each day. I would highly recommend Better Built for your home repairs and renovations
